24.01.2022 TIPS FROM YOUR MAKEUP ARTIST . . . 1- a brow tidy/ tint can improve your makeup look ten fold. *Along with facial hair removal. ... . 2- makeup photos are welcome however trust your makeup artist, they are the professional. E.g special occasions - choose a look that flatters you, you don’t want to look back and think.. what was I thinking?! . 3- makeup application takes time! That is why professional makeup artistry lasts. We sometimes apply up to 50 products on the face. All layered with precision. A common question we get asked is if the makeup will last!? Yes of course, Staying in the air conditioning until your event doesn’t hurt too. . 4- if you have a spray tan, I personally prefer the face not be sprayed. Tan can stick to dryness and texture and this can affect the makeup result. . 5- pretty please stay off your phone where possible, it can make it harder for us to do our jobs. . 6- we are not magicians but we do transform the face. I personally like to create a look the flatters the client in the best way possible. . 7- please be on time to your appt as we need all the time we can to complete the perfect look for you and don’t want to have to cut it short- we try our best to be on time too, but I don’t let anyone leave until I am 110% happy for you to walk out the door. . 8- speak up! I can not stress this enough, if you are not happy with any part of your makeup look, tell us. We don’t bite and would much rather fix the problem then have you leave unsatisfied. Usually this is the case if you are fixated on a part/s of the makeup look. If something is standing out to you and its bothering you let us know. 06.01.2022 10 YEARS OF THE MAKEUP MIRROR Where do I start!? I’m not one to acknowledge my journey but I thought now is the right time. It all started in 2004 being empl...oyed at 15 by George Fotinos at Terry White Chemist in Stockland. Working my way up on the registers, to fragrance, Clinique and Estée Lauder through highschool. Where I was employed as the youngest Clinique consultant in Queensland. Once high school was over I was offered a full time manager position on the new Napoleon Perdis counter in the pharmacy in Townsville. I was generously given makeup training for a week makeup course through NP too. I was able to travel down south for trainings, host events alongside Napoleon Perdis himself, complete hundreds of makeups, sell beautiful products and finally made number 1 counter for Pharmacy in Australia for the year 2010. It was after this that I know I needed a new challenge, sad to finish up in a place that I had been for six years was difficult as I loved my work, colleagues and I learnt so much about all aspects of beauty, health and medicines. Valuable knowledge I still have to this day. If I wasn’t given this opportunity to work in makeup I may have never realised my passion for makeup artistry. I am also so grateful to still have loyal customer from these days. (You know who your are and I am so grateful) 10 years ago I had to courage to go out of my own with the encouragement from my parents as fellow business owners I had faith. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the business mentoring and positive support from my amazing parents. A challenge is what I wanted and that is sure what I have been given over the years. Fast forward a few months and an opportunity came up in a beautiful salon called Moon on Thuringowa drive, owned by Cerrie and Derek Chapman. The two most generous and kind people that have come into my life. I was blessed to be given two rooms in there hair salon. One offering makeup the other a room for brows and lash extensions. In this room I would work 10-12 hour days sometimes 7 days a week, very early mornings to late nights. I loved my little space and working along side everyone at Moon including hairdressing offsider Alyssa Dixon. Everyone was so supportive of each other it wasn’t like going to ‘work’. I would save my earnings to get in a new cosmetic brand to offer the ladies of Townsville. One being the good old limecrime lipsticks! I have vivid memories of me and Adrian in my childhood bedroom packing pre orders (over 100 orders) of the crazy lip colours with names like ‘no she didn’t’ we would laugh and soon enough Adrian new all the names. Again I made long term clients and friends here that I am very grateful for, I wouldn’t be where I was without the loyal clientele I have established over the years. Always giving my all to my regulars first and foremost as creating trusting relationships with clients was very important to me along with creating a positive reputation. 4 years pasted and I was out growing my space and needed to expand. I said my goodbyes to the beautiful people at Moon and my two little rooms and opened a brand new fully fitted out 200sqm salon at the Hyde Park Centre. I wanted to offer a one stop shop that specialised in makeup something Townsville didn’t have. We offer all beauty treatments to get you picture perfect for that special occasion, holiday or even the everyday along with retailing dozens of AUSSIE retail brands over the years. Always on the hunt for new and exciting treatments and products my mother and I have attended several trade expos down south. I am never satisfied and am always redecorating, researching, providing new treatments, new cosmetic brands. There is always something that needs improving. One of my other achievements would be employing over 20 people in this time. I would like to think I have given opportunities, experience and knowledge to those that have worked for me. I have definitely grown as a person and employer and take my hat off to all the employers out there is really isn’t easy. In saying this, The Makeup Mirror wouldn’t be what it was today without the efforts and commitment the staff have given over this time. Each of them have provided elements to make it what it is today. Thank you to Telissa Timpone for her loyalty and commitment to myself and the salon over the years, you have been a massive part of The Makeup Mirror. Along with Yolanda, your friendship and support I am so grateful to have. To my staff Tracey, Emily, Laura and Dana. Thank you for everything you bring, accomplish, and provide to The Makeup Mirror. I am very proud of the team I have. My passion for makeup is even stronger even after 13 years in the industry. I am truly blessed to do a job I love. I love making people feel their best. This year has been the most challenging of them all, but we can only look ahead and take one day at a time. Thank you to our wonderful clients! You are what make coming to work so fun! Your loyalty over the years is much appreciated and without you there wouldn’t be a The Makeup Mirror! I don’t know how to thank my parents for there constant help sometimes at the drop of a hat , the support, listening ear, I wouldn’t be where I am with out them. I am so blessed to have such patient and supportive parents, not with out mentioning my husband. A husband that helps cook the dinners, cleans and helps me whenever I have need anything without criticism when I’m on my phone at all hours of the day and night. Thank you to my little brother for helping with my little girl Rocci when I need 20 minutes to answer emails and place orders. Never forget where you started because if it weren’t for that you wouldn’t be where you were today. Always give something a go - it’s never to late. Thank you for taking the time to read this!
