04.01.2022 The Spanish flu and Covid 19 share many of the same responses one hundred years apart. Just goes to show how important history is and that we can all learn from it and, in some cases, repeat the same mistakes! The Spanish Flu of 1919 in Australia The Spanish flu did not originate in Spain but Spain was the first country to report it. Starting at the end of WW1 the virus was spread around the world as many servicemen returned home from the war....Continue reading
04.01.2022 Our committee met recently to look at the requirements for opening the museum again. At this stage there's a long list of work to be done so opening is unlikely before 1 Sept. If you've got some spare time to help though we'd love to have some help! Anytime on Thursdays from 10am to 3pm there'll be somebody there to coordinate volunteers with the list of jobs to do. ... If you can make it we'd love to see you. Jobs include cleaning, dusting, moving items, erecting barricades, installing sanitizer stations, printing signs, measuring rooms, tidying the grounds, digitizing photos, plus more.
03.01.2022 The museum was closed due to the bushfires all of January and part of February, and then in the middle of March it was closed due to Covid19 requirements. 90% of our volunteer reception desk staff are over the age of 70 yrs. The latest government announcement has said museums can open from 1st June, but request that people over the age of 70 are not exposed to the public. There are also new requirements to put in place at the museum. The committee have decided that the museum... will stay closed for the short term. They will work hard to put in place the new procedures, hand sanitizing stations, line markings, adapting some of the exhibitions, adding new signage, and doing a good clean. Hopefully by July the museum may be able to be opened by request with a limited number of volunteers, and back to 7 days/wk by 1st September. The health and wellness of the volunteers is really important, and so is keeping the collection safe. In the meantime it has been a good time to get some maintenance and painting done. The Police Station has the roof painted, and the inside of that building will be painted shortly. Maintenance to the ramp access to the reception area and the flooring of the Cudgewa North School entry have also been undertaken. There’s always lots to do, please contact the museum if you have skills or time you would like to offer. In the meantime, follow The Man From Snowy River Museum on Facebook, or via the website (www.manfromsnowyrivermuseum.com.au), or email [email protected].
02.01.2022 Similar story from 1939, but in those fires that came through from Holbrook, the fire jumped from Mt Mittamatite to Mt Elliot and spared the township of Corryong, but not the surrounding district. The fire then burned through to the coast.
02.01.2022 Even though we're not allowed to open yet, there's still lots going on to get ready! Our Jack Riley hut replica is one of our projects, led by Brett Lee, John Williams & John Whitehead. The shingles started going on this week! ... (Ps. We have a working bee this coming Tue 6th Oct to get ready to open with covid restrictions (mainly moving and cleaning objects), please come along if you can give us an hour or 2...or 3 or 4 )
