02.01.2022 As most of you will realise, I’m not an active Facebook user so when I do post it’s (usually/sometimes) important. The SA Apple and Pear industry desperately ne...eds your support. In October last year we suffered a devastating hailstorm that impacted crops across the entire growing region. You won’t remember it because it happened overnight and the hail was small (like rice) so it didn’t smash windows and dent cars. But a small developing piece of fruit is very sensitive to any impact and the outcome is substantial aesthetic damage. Which leads to the reason for my post. This fruit is absolutely fine to eat. It tastes great. It’s still grown in the pristine environment of the Adelaide Hills and the South East but it has a few superficial marks on the skin. But our customers (the supermarkets) say that you, the consumer, don’t want to eat it and instead they will either pay a price below the cost of production or buy fruit from interstate. In the words of the anti-gun lobby in the US - I CALL BS!! I reckon you are happy to eat it and will even buy and eat more, knowing that you are supporting our local farming industry who work tirelessly, employ a lot of people and contribute significantly to our economy by paying lots of tax just like the rest of us. In the coming weeks you will start to see some fruit packaged under Hailstorm Heroes branding and hopefully you may also hear or read about it. All we need you to do is buy it when you see it and if you want to go to the next level, tell the store you buy fruit from that you want to buy SA Hail impacted fruit to help our local growers. Please share/re-tweet/tell as many people as you can. And enjoy eating the wonderful product grown just up over the hills in your own backyard. See more
