20.01.2022 This week I have been working on my own assessment and treatment, as I have always had a bad right hip.... Having a leg reconstruction in my teenage years which healed badly has an ongoing impact.... When aggravated can lead to severe and very painful Twisted Pelvis, also called Pelvic Torsion. A twisted pelvis, also known as pelvic torsion, is an extremely common distortion pattern but often remains undiagnosed. The result can be significant chronic pain that seems to hav...e no clear explanation. Without understanding this phenomenon, it's impossible to see the cascading muscular effects that can result. Back pain, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, and more can potentially be traced back to this primary root cause. Your hip bones are part of your pelvis. When your hips are uneven, with one hip higher than the other, it means your pelvis is tilted. This is also called a lateral pelvic tilt, and only a few things cause it. The symptoms and treatment depend on the reason your hips are uneven. The main reasons for uneven hips are: Scoliosis, which can be mild to severe and change over time A difference in leg length that comes from posture and stance, which is functional rather than physical A physical, or structural, difference in the lengths of your legs WHAT ARE THE STEPS FOR CORRECTING A TWISTED PELVIS? Correcting a twisted pelvis is accomplished by: 1) Identifying the exact nature of the pattern. 2) Lengthening the muscles that have been locked short using a combination of manual therapy including tailored remedial massage treatments, chiropractors, yoga, physiotherapists and assisted mobilisation 3) Regular implementation of a series of re-patterning stretches and exercises that can be done at home. Once a twisted pelvis is understood and corrected, compensatory muscular patterns, the root of much unexplained pain in the body, can lift and vanish. Often muscles that have been compensating for long periods of time do require some direct help in the form of regular remedial therapy. But once the primary trigger of compensation is removed, our muscles can often heal quite rapidly. Once we look at the body as a whole, integrated structure, a great deal of mysterious pain in the body can be both understood and relieved.

05.01.2022 Popliteus is usually a rare muscle which needs treating. Strangely enough it has been popping up lately in a few of The Massage Escape Tamworth’s treatments. Popliteus comes down from the Latin word poples meaning the hollow of the knee which is about what the popliteal fossa is. Popliteus is the muscle of the leg. Its deepest muscle of the knee joint which forms the floor of the popliteus fossa. It is the only muscle in the posterior (back) compartment of the lower leg... that acts just on the knee and not on the ankle. Its a thin, flat ,triangular shape muscle. When the knee is in full extension, the femur slightly medially rotates on the tibia to lock the knee joint in place. Popliteus is often referred to as the "Key" to unlocking the knee since it begins knee flexion by laterally rotating the femur on the tibia. Poor movement patterns and posture often weigh heavily on the popliteus muscle leaving it prone too weakness and injury. Any injury to the knee will likely involve the popliteus muscle. If the hamstrings towards the outer thigh are stronger than the inner hamstrings, the popliteus muscle will be weaker. Excessive pronation or collapse of the inner foot when walking or running will stress the popliteus in the opposite direction Due to deep location isolated injury to popliteus muscle is rare but it may be associated with other knee injuries such as ACL injury, meniscus injuries. There are general symptoms of muscle injury like swelling, tenderness, oedema, bleeding, patient keeps leg (tibia) in lateral rotation during knee flexion. The popliteus muscle along with PCL (posterior cruciate ligament ) of knee stabilises femur over fixed tibia in stance phase specially when extra stability is needed like running downhill. So running downhill specially on banked surface and hyperpronation leads to popliteus muscle injury like tenosynivitis, tendinopathy, ruptute, strain People often experience deep knee pain and referred pain into the hamstrings and calf muscles. Due to the fact that the popliteus runs across the top of the femoral artery it can also cause some cramping or swelling in the gastrocnemius if it is very tight. To target stretch The popliteus muscle sit on a chair, have a firm grip on upper part of your leg and gently rotate your foot outwards and hold for thirty seconds and repeat three times.
