25.01.2022 If youve ever wondered exactly what Dermal filler is.... #repost from @theaestheticsocietygeelong What is dermal filler? Dermal Filler used at The Aesthetic Society is made from Hyaluronic Acid (HA) a protein which is water loving and pulls water into the tissue. We use dermal filler to replace volume, improve skin quality and enhance bones structures. HA is responsible for binding collagen and elastin fibres into the protective matrix that gives our skin structure. HA... is a substance that our body normally produces and is plentyful when we are born, and is found mostly in the deeper layers of our skin (dermis). It has the ability to keep skin smooth, hydrated and plump given its ability to hold 1000x its water weight. The ability to hold and retain moisture is what keeps skin looking youthful and is what we lack when we age when our bodies produce less and less Hyaluronic Acid. Dermal fillers are an amazing way of enhancing hydration and volumising the skin to turn back the ageing clock . . . #cosmeticnurse #nurseinjector #aesthetics #dermalfiller #fillers #antiageing #lips #lipenvy #lipfiller #wrinkles #cosmeticinjectables #nonsurgical #cheekfiller #pout #lipinjections #frownlines #foreheadlines #rejuvination #beforeandafter #beautyadvice #cosmetics #love #beautiful #results #wrinkleprevention #beautytips #geelong #alliedhealth See more

20.01.2022 repost from @theaestheticsocietygeelong Im back!!! The temporary closure of The Aesthetic Society gave my some time to think about how I wanted to go about the rest of 2020 in terms of my business, what I can bring and further add to my practise. 17.01.2022 We feel very privileged to be in a position to help so many people with chronic health conditions. Unfortunately, we cant help everybody, but we do have more ...wins than losses. All of us feel extemely blessed to work in the naturopathic health field, and deeply appreciate the kind words from our clients, such as those below. "After many years of unresolved gut and other health issues, I went to see Adrian. Adrian is very knowledgeable and unlike every medical practitioner I had seen before, made me feel he cared about, heard, and not dismissed in the slightest. It took us a little while of sifting through seemingly weird and unrelated issues, to finally resolve things, completely! I am so grateful to Adrian and have nothing but positive things to report!"

15.01.2022 repost from @living.holistic.health Omega 3 fatty acids are great for us, but did you know they can help reduce mortality rates? A recent large study published in the British Medical Journal, sought to evaluate the associations of habitual fish oil supplementation with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality. The researchers studied data from almost 500 000 people around the world. ... Their analysis concluded that frequent consumption of fish oil seems to be associated with a lower risk of all cause and CVD mortality and to provide a marginal benefit against CVD events among the general population. Theres some weaknesses with the study, such as the doses and quality of the fish oil not being consistent. However this research backs up what other large scale studies have shown; that increasing your consumption of omega 3 fatty acids can have an enormous positive impact on your health. And ultimately prolong the course of your life! Thats a massive benefit from just popping a couple of fish oil capsules each day, and reaffirms just how powerful nutritional medicine and appropriate supplementation can be. #nutrition #nutritionist #nutritionalmedicine #naturopath #naturopathy #geelong #bellarine #functionalnutrition #integrativemedicine #well #wellness #bringthetruth #functionalmedicine #diet #holistichealth #hearthealth #prevention #lifestyle #lifestylemedicine #fishoil #cardiovascular #alliedhealth

14.01.2022 #repost from @living.holistic.health Ive said it before, and Ill say it again. Gut parasites are a major cause of IBS, and are massively misunderstood. Most mainstream practitioners struggle to treat parasites effectively. Simply because they dont understand how to.... The medications they prescribe are useless and sometimes cause more harm than good. And theres ZERO importance placed on rebuilding the Gut microbiome after a course of antibiotics. Its an epidemic, and completely disgraceful. I would say that at least 30% of my patients have suffered unnecessarily because of poorly treated gut parasites. And its the same for Morgan and Mark. I feel so sorry for the many, many patients who come through my door, fed up with the standard medical line of "Youve got IBS, theres nothing we can do for you". Luckily for our patients, we actually CAN do something. #nutrition #nutritionist #nutritionalmedicine #naturopath #naturopathy #geelong #bellarine #functionalnutrition #integrativemedicine #well #wellness #bringthetruth #functionalmedicine #diet #mealplans #IBS #guthealth #gutmicrobiome #womenshealth #parasites #alliedhealth

13.01.2022 If you want great advice with hands on experience, talk to Mark. #repost from @living.holistic.health Introducing Tree Nuts and the Lowdown on Honey In this post, I will talk further about introducing tree nuts (peanuts are a legume) and the potential risk of honey in babies. Firstly, I will touch on what Harvey has been enjoying over the past few weeks. Coconut yoghurt- He absolutely loves this and it is a great source of healthy fats.... Broccoli- I steamed a piece so he could hold and explore. I was pleasantly surprised how much he liked it, eating almost a whole floret (with the rest spread between himself and the floor!) Green beans- I steamed it enough to soften but not enough to break apart. He enjoyed sucking and playing with these. Beef- I cooked some beef mince in some bone broth and then pureed it into a fine consistency. It was a little dry so I mixed through a little coconut oil and then served it pumpkin or sweet potato puree. Over this last week, Harvey has started to ingest more and more food. Be mindful that it could be a slow process. The main thing to remember is that at this stage, it is more about exploration of the different foods. Introducing Tree Nuts To safely introduce other tree nuts such as almonds, cashews, walnuts and brazil nuts, I recommend using a good quality nut butter, or simply make your own by blending the nuts to a smooth paste. Some water can be added to get a better consistency so that it isnt too dry. Coconut oil can also be used if your baby has already had coconut products introduced into their diet. Introduce a small amount (1/2 tsp) by its self or with other foods in a puree that your baby tolerates well. Wait 2-3 days then if no reaction, repeat this step 3 times and monitor for any reactions, remember to not do this just before bed or nap time and dont introduce any other new foods during this time. We will start to introduce nuts at about 8-9 months for Harvey as he would have well and truly had a wide variety of foods. The Lowdown on Honey Babies under the age of 1 should not be fed honey or foods containing honey due to risk of botulism caused by bacteria (clostridium botulinum). (More in comments) See more

11.01.2022 repost from @living.holistic.health Feeling depleted? Chances are your adrenal glands need some TLC. These glands are super small, yet are super important for your health. They control the release of your stress hormones, in the process called your Fight/Flight response. And these stress hormones set off a cascade of chemical changes in your body when youre stressed, which influence just about every organ you have. Short term, stress can be a good thing. But long term, it ca...n cause massive harm to your health. Do any of these symptoms in the graphic sound familiar to you? 10.01.2022 Who needs their mojo back? repost from @geelong_osteo What to do if you lose motivation? Setbacks are normal, but developing resilience can help you carry on and pick up where you left off. Here are some tips to help you find your motivation again: Review your goals and see if they are realistic in the timeframe you have set. You may need to break your goal down further into smaller and more achievable goals.... Remember why you wanted to get motivated or reach that goal in the first place. Take motivation from others feel inspired by reading a book, talking to your mentor or friends or family who have reached similar goals to the ones you have set. Sometimes you just need to take a break and start afresh.

First Foods As my son Harvey has just turned 6 months old, I have decided to share his journey with starting solids. This is a great opportunity to share my knowledge and provide you with the latest evidenced based information around this important milestone. I strongly believe that the first years of life are exceptionally important in moulding your little ones healt...h by giving them the nutrients their growing and developing bodies need. The topics I will be discussing over the coming months are Why we waited until Harvey was 6 months and why not to delay it too long Introducing solids and signs that your baby is ready Best foods to start with and which foods to introduce and when Baby Led Weaning (BLW) Vs puree The importance of continuing breast milk or formula The main food allergens, when to introduce and why Food Intolerances The importance of gut health How to help or reduce any gut upsets Please follow along over this exciting time. I would also love to hear your feedback and please feel free to ask any questions that may help you on your childs food journey. As always, I am available for consults to help guide your baby more specifically on introductions to foods including common allergens and intolerances, and to support their growing bodys with optimum nutrition. 09.01.2022 Introducing allergens In this post I will discuss how we will introduce Harvey to the major food allergens and the reasoning behind it, the most common food all...ergens are as follows. Peanuts (not other tree nuts) Wheat Hens eggs Cows milk Shellfish Fish Soy Sesame There can be a bit of anxiety surrounding the introduction of potential food allergens, but when done correctly with the right knowledge it doesnt have to be as stressful. The right time to start introducing these potential allergens has some conflicting information, therefore there is no right or wrong. I will discuss what we are doing with Harvey and the reasoning behind it. Some guidelines suggest 4 months but I personally I believe this is too early due to an immature gut and immune system. Growing evidence suggests exposing your baby to these allergens before 11 months of age but not before 6. We will wait until about 8 months as he only stared solids at 6 and we need to get other foods in before this stage. If your baby has reactions to other foods, including egg yolk, or skin problems such as eczema or a strong family history of allergies I would suggest being more mindful or getting further support in this area. Please remember that only about 6-7 % of children have a reaction of some kind, most not severe. A great way to start is the mother eating these foods if still breastfeeding as a small amount will be passed through in breast milk. Safest ways to introduce allergens If possible, breast feed baby first, this could be looked at as an immune buffer Dont introduce allergens just before bed time or a nap, give yourself time to monitor, some allergies can take a few hours to produce a symptom Make sure your baby isnt sick at the time or close to a vaccination, their immune systems will already be working overtime How to introduce Allergens may not cause a reaction first time as it can take time for immune antibodies to form, subsequent exposure with the same food for 3-4 days is the key. Introduce allergens one at a time, otherwise if a reaction occurs you wont know which food is problematic, monitor your baby for a few hours afterwards. Once no reaction to that food is shown, regular rotation of that food is recommended to build up an immune tolerance. There is no set rule on which of these foods to do first, I would suggest which ever is the most convenient, e.g. wheat and introduce peanuts as a natural nut butter. What to look for Signs and symptoms of a mild reaction include Abdominal pain Diarrhoea Itching or skin rash Swelling of face lips or tongue Runny nose Slight wheeze or cough Nausea or vomiting If not an emergency seek medical advice when possible. If a reaction occurs, wipe babies face and hands and remove any food you can from their mouth. A severe reaction will present as any of the following Constriction of the airways Difficulty breathing Hives, Rapid pulse This is severe anaphylaxis and please call an ambulance immediately. If your child does react to any food please seek advice before exposure to that food again as it may be more severe the second time. Next post- Introducing tree nuts (peanuts are actually legume), the low down on honey and other lesser known food intolerances that may cause symptoms such as irritability, restlessness and developmental problems. For further information, bookings are still available face to face and also with the convenience of telehealth or phone appointments. Mark

06.01.2022 You cant beat feedback!!! #repost from @living.holistic.health Some fantastic feedback today, posted onto our Google Reviews Page. This is from a client of Marks; "I have had "medically diagnosed IBS" since i was 12 and have always been told by doctors there was nothing more I could do but to keep on eliminating my trigger foods. I eventually got to the point last year where I was having flare ups at least 2 -3 times a week and decided enough was enough. I started seeing... Mark in December 2019 with a long list of issues. Uncontrolled IBS, Endometriosis, Eczema, mild insomnia and obesity. My assumption before going there was that a nutritionist would tell me if I lost weight it would get the other things under control, as this is the advice I have been given by doctors previously. But Mark has been thorough and has had a very scientific approach to dealing with my issues and getting to the root cause, my gut health. In the past five months of treatment with Mark we have managed to get all of my major issues under control and I havent had an IBS flare up for at least 2 months now. The work Mark has done with me and the changes I have seen in such a short time frame have been absolutely life changing and I can not thank Mark enough for everything he has done for me so far." This is a familiar story for many of our patients. They come to us when the standard medical approach has largely failed to help them. We feel extemely privileged to have so many of you, our wonderfully passionate community, place your fath and trust in us to help you with managing your health. These kind words of appreciation for Mark are wonderful validation for us, in our quest to deliver top quality naturopathic and nutritional medicine healthcare to you, our valued community.
