24.01.2022 "Money can buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail." One half of a (mostly) dynamic duo, Lucy the Jack Russell enjoyed the attention in the studio. 22.01.2022 Today for our Life in Self-Isolation Series: Sue Allen Your occupation: Crossing supervisor On a quiet note Im enjoying the slower pace on the crossing. Less worrying about the ever increasing traffic, the noise and smoke of roaring cars ,making me to be on full alert for the safety of the pedestrians. On the down side I miss the meeting and greeting of the children and wishing them all a great day... The good thing about this isolation is as a family were home more and trying to adapt and help each out. My second job as a school cleaner is changed completely. From doing a full school clean in the evenings from 4pm till 830 I am rosters on now from 10 till 2. And my duties have changed completely. I am now home at 4pm ,cook tea early and have a proper family discussions instead of high bye see you later With families more together, strengthening their bonds, doing activities together more, maybe everything we actually want is right in our homes. 20.01.2022 Today for our Life in Self-Isolation series Thorsten Maertens and his Often people can't believe we have bees in our backyard, right next to our trampoline. They are friendly! We got into beekeeping as a hobby through our friends. Right now it's great to have the bees as they keep us busy with the weather still being warm and we need some extra time to prepare everything for winter anyway. They are a good distraction. Dad is our beekeeper. He has to be calm and focused ...when he opens the hives to check on them, so he kinda forgets what is going on in the world for a little bit which really helps him to not be so stressed about things we cannot change. Now that he is working from home with all of us kids around, he likes to be working quietly in the garden around his bees. And he is used to self-isolation from the bees as he always wears his protective gear with the big face mask. *Disclaimer: Portrait not taken today For more stories: https://www.facebook.com/groups/VIPTheMelbournePortraitStudio

17.01.2022 Today for our Life in Self-Isolation project we have Natalie Rotins story Although were both working remotely, were really enjoying the time saved on our commute and being able to do things like have lunch together in the yard, exercising more. Im still running my business as well as working full time but at least it feels like less than a juggle. And Im thankful that Im in an industry where Im able to really help people get through this time.... We struggled to begin with balancing work/hom e and Coby but I think were finally finding a new normal! Its difficult not having a sibling or friends for Coby but thank goodness for FaceTime. Plus his bestie is the dog so Wheels is happy! I am honestly struggling a little with not having some space but ultimately the time at home far outweighs the times when the boys are driving me nuts! Haha Were currently working on a puzzle, definitely baking more (not usually my forte but Im improving) and weve been using the cooler nights to snuggle up together on the couch to watch Marvel movies! Im definitely healthier, more time to exercise and eat food thats been cooked from scratch. Its teaching us patience and grace. And I love that were going back to the simple life. Ive been telling my clients, now is the time to lower the bar and expect less from yourself. Just take in the moment. The community rocks! Ben and I grew up here so we have loads of old AND new friends. I love that we support each other, we take pride in where we live and that we have these opportunities to be innovative and give back. The local businesses are all friends which is really beautiful. 16.01.2022 Kimi Ventrella with her gorgeous Stachi. Look at his face, I just want to kiss him And I don't know why but his face reminds me of Puss in Boots. Do you see it too?
16.01.2022 Little Bomba joined us in the studio, along with his six other brothers and sisters. So angelic here, like a little seal pup, you can't see the chaos created by seven rambunctious Samoyed puppies all wanting to eat, play and never, ever sit still. (PS He's growing up now! 16.01.2022 I photographed the dad (with the human daughter of the family) of these puppies a few years ago. Then they also got a gorgeous female Samoyed and then there were beautiful babies. And Lots of Them! I had this crazy idea that I wanted them all 7 asleep in 1 row... It took us about 4 hours... because every time we had a few asleep and moved them in a row they instantly woke up, and like all babies do when they wake up, they started peeing and poohing. OMG we were cleaning ...up nonstop and I will not share how the studio smelled afterwards. We did have the best time though, and we think the result is just astounding. What do you think?

15.01.2022 Today for our Life in Self-Isolation were featuring Joe Cicala Occupation now: Viral Clean: A Vehicle & Property Disinfection service Occupation before the virus: Business coach & Mentor... Living in a quiet street and looking after my elderly neighbour who is very appreciative of the fact that I can go shopping for her, take out her bins and mow the lawns, smile and say hello all keeping our social distancing. For me, life is about choices, to have them limited suddenly was a great shock and something I had to contemplate and quickly make adjustments too, for both my mental wellbeing and those I support. I recently met a beautiful kind-hearted soul, we managed to have one beautiful date on unbeknown to us, the last day of freedom. We have not been together since as we both agreed this would be best for our families safety. We are constantly in communication, and getting to know one another better via digital mediums, the depths of discovery in this way reminds me of being a teenager when I had a penpal (showing my ages lol) Not being able to hug the people I love, knowing my family and friends run the gauntlet every day to keep the wheels turning for the rest of us. Feeling helpless to do more, knowing so many others are suffering from the lockdown effects, financially, psychologically, and physically. I decided to play my part in supporting essential services workers by starting my business "Viral Clean" A Vehicle & Property Disinfection service in the hope we can reduce the cross-contamination of Covid-19 during these unprecedented times. Unfortunately recently we were asked to decontaminate a truck where the driver died of Covid-19, our thoughts go out to all those that have suffered loss due to this deadly disease. I feel I've chosen to turn this situation around and be positive and hence I feel invigorated, doing my part to lead by example, offering comfort, support, knowledge and laughs to many in my community which now extends to my online community. I am contributing in my way and in turn feel good about doing so and finding new ways to lift my spirits, such as small renovations around the house and the feeling you get with achievement, enjoying the live streaming music that DJ's and bands are offering to make our days and nights more enjoyable. We have the best of so many options, The spirit and support those leading the way, such as Council information to help the community in forms of assistance and volunteers, neighbours, and especially our essential services workers helping each other in so many ways. Not forgetting our proximity to the beach, gardens, local businesses and the city at our doorstep. I'd like say a special thank you to Judith and all those people who shared their stories, for giving us an insight to their lives in a time where people are more important than things Disclaimer: Portrait not taken today For all our stories: https://www.facebook.com/groups/VIPTheMelbournePortraitStudio

14.01.2022 Today Lynda Jeans story for our Life in Self-Isolation project Occupation: Kindergarten teacher We have found isolation a challenge as we are very social with our friends. We are missing going away for the school holidays as we go away a lot, we have been reminiscing on past holidays and have been looking through photos of all our adventures. I am missing nights out with my girl pals as sometimes I need some 'me' time..... Being isolated and having active kids has been a struggle. Ryley usually has soccer, football, basketball and athletics - he has run around the block a few times but is still missing his team sports and mates. Cacee is also active with basketball, acting classes and football. She's really missing her school and team mates. She speaks to some of them on her computer and they play games together. We are not sure what struggles we are going to face yet when school returns next week. We will face these as they come along. We are going on a daily bike ride, we go somewhere different every day and have been on some bike paths we have never been on before. Its like a new discovery about our local area! Ive been cooking up some seasonal foods as well as attending to my many ferments. I have time on my hands to do all these things and keep them up to date with 'feeding' and baking. I teach cooking to a student once a week and we have been doing online classes. Its been fun, learning how to do online classes and to see her cooking achievements. Whats something positive that came out of this? Appreciating all that is around us, such as our friends and the freedom we usually have. Daily bike rides and enjoying the outdoors. Tidying up and organising my messy garden - planning what winter crop to plant. Spending time with the kids and finding fun things to do. Getting to experiment with our cameras and taking photos in our yard. Getting ready to camp in the backyard for easter and to cook some sausages on the camp stove. Getting all the odd jobs done around home that we never usually get time to do. What do you love most about Altona? The community feeling. Living near the beach and watching the amazing sunrises and sunsets. All the great friends we have made since we moved here. Cacee and I made the fairy garden together. Many years ago my late mother made a fairy garden at the end of their section so when we visit NZ the kids always had a look at it. Unfortunately they never got to meet their nana but gathering the items for our fairy garden has made me feel like its a bit of my mum at our house. 13.01.2022 Today for our Life in Self-Isolation series, Dani Da's gripping story. I still feel their pain "Ken Dalby passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday 26 March 2020 aged 85. Ken was Jasons father, my father-in-law and Jake and Alexs grandfather. He was also the beloved husband of Anne, father to Julie, Kenny, Alan (dec) and Rachel, father-in-law to Charlie, Kelly and John. He was also the grandfather of 15 and great grandfather of 8. Ken was born in the UK and i...mmigrated to Australia in 1966. He spent over 30 years of his Australian life living in Altona. Jason and I purchased the family home in 2003 when his parents sought a tree change to Bunningyong. We have the privilege of raising our own family in this great house surrounded by the gardens Jasons parents created. Saying goodbye is not easy and we dont feel any worse off than anyone else living through this crazy time. In fact we feel very lucky that Ken had the privilege of living a long and healthy life. Sitting most uncomfortably is that we dont feel he received the send off that his larger than life character deserved. With only 10 at the funeral and all seated 1.5m apart it felt surreal, like a sad movie scene when no-one turns up to say goodbye. Our boys were not able to attend and neither were any of the grandchildren or great grandchildren, we unsuccessfully tried to connect them to watch it online - unfortunately one of us left the iPad on mute. Luckily the service was filmed so we can share the moment. With no wake we drove home struggling with the thought is that it? So we watched the sunset at Truganina Wetlands, one of Kens favourite places instead. There were so many who wanted to be there, to say their goodbyes, pay their respects and support the family that couldnt. Whilst we are planning a memorial when life returns to normal we just dont know when that will be. We also dont know when the extended family will be able to visit from other states in Australia and also from the UK. We all have unspoken family customs and ways that we deal with loss and the sorrow that follows, this is the part of social isolation that we have found the most challenging. To be unable to surround ourselves with friends and family, to share a drink, a story and a hug. That knowing look that tells you a person knows how you are feeling without needing to say a thing. The way someone makes you feel when you are together these connections cannot be replaced with a phone call or a face time call. Ken didnt receive a normal goodbye and now by being part of this wonderful tribute his goodbye becomes extraordinary instead. The bench we are sitting on was left in our garden by Anne and Ken along with so many other sentimental items, it is a daily reminder of the love they had for their garden, their home, each other and their extended family. Rest In Peace. *Disclaimer: portrait not taken today More stories: https://www.facebook.com/groups/VIPTheMelbournePortraitStudio

03.01.2022 Today for my Life in Self-Isolation a beautiful portrait of Ericas boys. I think this portrait portrays the whole self-isolation in their eyes A million thanks to the very gorgeous, thoughtful and talented Judith for brightening our day with a fun photo shoot through our front window! The world has certainly been turned upside down and life has been put on hold while this virus "storm front" passes, but we are grateful that we are safe at home and not contributing to the... viral spread. While it can be both entertaining and chaotic at times with both of us working from home, while also home-schooling and caring for a little one - we are enjoying being able to hit the pause button for a little bit longer while our 3 boys are still relatively young. We absolutely love the Altona community and we have gone on many a bike ride around our neighbourhood over the last 2 weeks and we've been delighted to see all the teddy bears in the windows of so many houses, it was such a lovely idea. And our boys are very much 'beach boys' at heart, so we thought it would be cute if we dream of being back on the beach, putting our sunnies on and have a play with our favourite bears! We love Altona! Stay safe everyone. Xx *Disclaimer: Portrait not taken today Follow all our stories here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/VIPTheMelbournePortraitStudio/

02.01.2022 Today for our Life in Self-Isolation series we have Gemma Stoddart and baby Riley Your occupation : MRI Radiographer Isolation is definitely quite lonely and frustrating. Life with a newborn can already be quite isolating. My first baby Abbey was a very colicky baby screaming hours on end for no apparent reason. She hated the car and the pram and I was forced into staying at home unable to go anywhere. My newborn girl Riley is quite the opposite, so now I have a baby tha...t can travel and we have nowhere to go!! My parents came over from England just after Riley's birth. There were no issues with travel when they arrived at the start of March. Things deteriorated quickly both here and back in the UK. Activities and outings were cancelled and we spent less time enjoying their holiday. Flights were grounded and borders were closed around the world. They were forced to bring their flights home forward and then to change them again as more countries refused transiting passengers. It was all very sad and stressful at a time when they should have been enjoying the birth of their granddaughter and spending time with Abbey. My husband has had some hours cut and is now spending more time at home too. Thankfully we are still ok financially and now I have a little more help with both the children and he gets to spend more time with them including the new baby. Something he'd miss out on in normal times. We'd gotten to know our neighbours before isolation but now we're swapping food, garden supplies and helping each other out where we can. What do you love most about Altona? The community feel. Cars stop to allow pedestrians to pass. Neighbours watch out for one another. We are so lucky to live near the beach but also near easy transport. We have great family run cafes and small businesses, many of whom we can try to help during this time and many of those have spun their business plan around to work through this time and support the community. We feel very welcomed, very comfortable and very happy in Altona. Disclaimer: Portrait not taken today For all our stories: https://www.facebook.com/groups/VIPTheMelbournePortraitStudio/
02.01.2022 Today for our Life in Self-Isolation series I've asked the questions to the girl featuring in the portrait. Megan Iemma Sofia 11y Self-Isolation makes me feel frustrated because we are not seeing anyone, and we are all cooped up. Its hard not being able to see my friends to talk face to face. ... When I feel frustrated or lonely, I can go to my art studio and I can just paint or scribble or express my feelings thru my art. If no-one is going to see my art, I can be free to just create. How does it make you feel when youre creating art? It makes me feel relaxed and I can just create. I can paint the world in a different perspective or draw anything that I want to draw. Im proud to see I made something that is actually worthwhile and will bring a smile to someones face when they receive the card. Im happy to extend my knowledge and have something new that I can use to put on a card. It is very relaxing to do 2 or 3 hours a day just creating art.
