21.01.2022 From the 1st of October, you must wear a fitted face mask that covers both your nose & mouth whilst in public. Alternative face coverings including bandanas, scarfs, plastic face shields & motorcycle gaitors/neck tubes are no longer permitted. Whilst the Victorian government is allowing a one week grace period before enforcing this recent change (with fines of up to $200), we ask that all visitors to our building ensure they have an appropriate fitted face covering from today onward. Here at #melbsportsmed, the health and safety of our staff, patients and community is our top priority & we appreciate your cooperation. We're in this together. www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus #themelbournesportsmedicinecentre #melbournesportsmedicinecentre

14.01.2022 You may have noticed over recent weeks that finding a car park in the CBD has become a challenge. Please read our Directions and Parking information https://buff.ly/3n9DioX to find out what your best option may be. Alternatively ring us on 9650 9372 / 9650 4284. 12.01.2022 Our blood stocks are running low. Thousands of Australians need a blood transfusion every single day. That's people who have been in accidents. People who are ...sick. People who have just given birth or undergone major surgery. All of them can be helped by someone else taking an hour out of their day to give blood. So please if you can, book in at your nearest blood donation clinic and share a pint of the red stuff. You'll never know whose life you're saving.

08.01.2022 Life Saving Victoria is urging people to take water safety seriously following a spate of fatal drownings along the Victorian coast yesterday afternoon. As you ...may have already seen, three people drowned in three separate incidents, and another three needed to be resuscitated along our coastline. This brings the number of drowning deaths in Victoria since 1 July 2020 to 38, superseding the previous financial year’s total of 34. That’s an average of more than one fatal drowning each week. Even one drowning is one too many, so these figures are truly heart breaking. We want people to be able to enjoy our beautiful waterways, but you need to do it safely. Wherever possible, swim between the red and yellow flags at patrolled beaches and during patrolled times, always supervise kids and never underestimate the potential risks around water. Thank you to our incredible crews and our emergency services partners Victoria Police Ambulance Victoria and Vic Emergency who assisted with these incidents. Our thoughts and condolences are with everyone affected by these tragic events.
07.01.2022 ACLR Rehab It can be difficult at times to know what should go into ACLR rehab plans. And the truth is, there is no "perfect" plan or protocol.... Each patient will have a different journey compared to the next person during their first 12-24 months of rehab. Because of this, exercises prescribed will need to differ depending on the person's goals and how they're progressing. But one thing is clear, what we need to be doing is making sure we try to keep rehab consistent with evidence based guidelines. I shared recently that only 5% of ACLR patients met van Melick et al 2016 guidelines (Ebert et al 2017). This same study also found that only 30% of the ACLR group performed plyometrics and agility exercises throughout their rehab. So if we're looking to improve our ACLR outcomes; let's all try to pick the low hanging fruit first: Rehab that is progressively over-loaded and consistent with ACSM guidelines for at least 9 months Rehab that includes plyometrics and agility exercises Pass a battery of strength, performance and psychological readiness tests prior to return to sport If you're interested in learning more, sign up to Learn.Physio ACLR Masterclass by clicking on the link below ACLR Masterclass - www.learn.physio/videos/100019
04.01.2022 A friendly reminder that you must wear a fitted face mask that covers both your nose & mouth whilst in public. Alternative face coverings including bandanas, scarfs, plastic face shields & motorcycle gaitors/neck tubes are no longer permitted (as of 01/10/20). The initial grace period for this new rule ended yesterday, so be sure to wear a face mask when in public to avoid a $200 fine. www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus #themelbournesportsmedicinecentre #melbournesportsmedicinecentre
