25.01.2022 And today’s cool job, a couple of Sony U-matic tapes. These are so big, and also rare for us to get this type of video cassette. This one is a family movie, but they were standard in the 70s and then became broadcast standard in the 80s. Some further info from the NFSA: https://www.nfsa.gov.au/prese/preservation-glossary/u-matic

24.01.2022 Look at this beautiful piece of archival hardware that arrived in the mail today: a 16mm film reel, 400ft long. Its teal: so do you see it as blue or green? I think it’s green.

23.01.2022 Seriously, only follow this trend if you already have digital copies of your music. Audio cassettes may be cute looking, but they degrade quickly and the tape stretches, making your songs slower than they’re supposed to be. https://www.popsci.com/story/shop/retro-cassette-players/

23.01.2022 We now have a mini cassette tape player, got any weird meeting minutes you’ve recorded from the 90s? Novel ideas you’ve saved and now can’t access? We can help. On a lighter note, can you caption this and make a meme?

22.01.2022 I forgot how cute floppy discs are (we do these too)

19.01.2022 This is quite possibly the filthiest VHS I’ve ever seen, other than the tape from Coffs Harbour that had been through a flood. Nevertheless, we will clean it and do our best to capture the footage.

19.01.2022 The discovery underscores the importance of digitization projects, as they allow these pieces of history to remain alive. There are still 1,300 tapes of El Bachiller left to catalog, which leaves officials hopeful that there may be other traces of Kahlo’s voice in other episodes.

17.01.2022 Condolences for those who have lost family members and homes in this intense fire season, and greatest thanks to the Firies, heroes every one. Artist credit: Theo Moudakis.

17.01.2022 People often ask "Do you watch our home movies?" This is a typical day during capture, we have 10 simultaneous video captures going, a film capture and we will be encoding for final output to HDD/USB/Cloud etc. So the answer is an empathic NO, we visually check that technically it is OK but there is not enough time in the universe to watch each and everyone's home movies

15.01.2022 We even do cassette tapes so you don’t have to do this

15.01.2022 Weird format number xxx: a Umatic video tape. I’ve included a computer mouse for scale.

13.01.2022 We barely had a TV during my childhood, let alone a VHS or Betamax player... but I find myself nostalgic anyway. The beta tapes we get for transfer are so cute and are rarely mouldy like the VHS tapes.

09.01.2022 Here at The MemoryBank we always do our best to repair any damaged tapes, some are beyond fixing, or you may simply lose a few minutes of your video. In this picture the Digital8 (Hi8) has shredded while it was being copied in the machine. The copy stopped and when I checked there was no tape visible. When I opened up the cassette cover I found this! Then the broken tape was removed and the good parts spliced together, for re-copying.

05.01.2022 This is what we do for you

05.01.2022 I was working this morning, getting ready to rip a customers DVD and it went BANG and shards flew everywhere! I thought there was an electrical fault, I wasn’t expecting this. I have never seen anything like this before. Have you?

03.01.2022 This morning I am capturing a reel to reel recording of a wedding service on our Pioneer RT-909 player. The tape makes an interesting scratchy noise as it winds onto the new reel.

02.01.2022 This is my day, turning your family memories into digital format. Doing everything that I can to give you a clear picture. Nine tapes on the go at once.

02.01.2022 Did you know that this is what super 8 looks like before it has been used? We occasionally receive these, because people don’t realise that these are just a film cartridge, not used and processed
