24.01.2022 Monday 8 June is not only a celebration for the Queens Birthday, its also the Old Mentonians Society, now The Mentonians Associations 93rd Birthday! Formed in 1927 by Mentone Grammars first Headmaster, Henry Lycett Tonkin, the Old Mentonians Society, led by President Alex Hillhouse, entered cricket and football teams into respective Amateur Leagues and organised competitions against current Mentone Grammar students, including the famous Old Boys Cup at the Schools athle...tics day. Since 1927 The Mentonians have expanded to include Panther Productions, Old Mentonians Basketball Club, Mentone Hockey Club, Mentone Soccer Club, Old Mentonians Cricket Club and Old Mentonians Football Club, as well as holding countless reunions and offering their first Foundation Award in 2019. After 93 years, we celebrate the value that Mentone Grammar places on their alumni, as The Mentonians offer an avenue for past students to remain connected and proudly say once a Mentonian, always a Mentonian. 24.01.2022 Vale - Roger Williams It is with great regret that I inform the School Community of the death of The Rev Roger Williams. Roger was Chaplain here from 1998 to ...2014. Roger died from cancer after a short illness. A charismatic person who happily engaged young people in the challenging role of Chaplain. Prior to working at Mentone Grammar he was Chaplain at Melbourne Grammar School from 1983 to 1997. His work with the Martyr’s School in Popondetta, Papua New Guinea, is the stuff of which legends are made and his many journeys over the Kokoda Trek with staff and students will be long remembered as life changing events for many. Roger taught RE and English, coached cricket and football but, more importantly, cared for members of our Community at times in their lives when they needed his support. In his own unique way, he moved amongst us creating good cheer, steady foundation and charitable hearts. We are extremely fortunate that Roger came to our School. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Enid, and his sons Scott, Glen and Neil. Labore et Honore Mal Cater Principal

03.01.2022 R U OK Day? is about checking in with our friends, colleagues, family members and others to see if they are going ok. The theme of 2020 is Theres more to say after RUOK?. Lets help each other to build our confidence and skills in navigating a conversation with someone when they might answer they are not ok or when you notice someone is struggling. You dont have to be an expert to keep a conversation going, often it is simply about being a good listener, showing genui...ne care and helping someone to access appropriate support before theyre in crisis. Dont forget to keep checking in too. An important part of RUOK? is also about checking in on yourself. Ask yourself, am I ok? Should I reach out to someone for a chat? What actions can I do to look after myself better today? Do I need further support? There are many people in your community that are there for you and willing and able to help. We are also proud of the RUOK initiatives being undertaken at Mentone Grammar for our students and wider community. #Mentonians #Mates #OnceAMentonianAlwaysAMentonian #RUOK
