25.01.2022 FAQ FOR EMPLOYERS & EMPLOYEES: We have been working closely with organisations, employees and family members to provide guidance on how manage the impacts of the coronavirus border closures. 24.01.2022 TRAVEL EXEMPTION UPDATE: A travel exemption is now available to holders of a Business Innovation and Investment (subclass 188) visa. Subclass 188 visa holders will now be eligible to travel to Australia and be automatically exempt from travel restrictions and can enter Australia without the need for an individual exemption. The Department of Home Affairs website lists the categories of people who are exempt from having to apply for an individual exemption - it includes Austra...lian citizens, permanent residents, NZ citizens residing in Australia, diplomats, maritime crew, and now, 188 visa holders. Although the 188 visa is a temporary visa, it is part of a two-step pathway to permanent residence. The announcement reflects the importance of 188 visa holders being allowed to travel to Australia to operate businesses (which in turn, employ Australian workers) and/or manage investments in Australia during the pandemic. #immigration #travel #188visa #travelexemption #australia

23.01.2022 Strict travel restrictions have been applied in Australia this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak. But the good news is Australia’s borders are gradually re-opening with certain business travellers being cleared to apply for travel permission when they fall into one of the exempt categories - such as travelling national interest, critical skill shortages, or support needs for specific sectors. It’s not necessarily easy to secure a travel exemption, but, in our experience, it’s not impossible in the right circumstances and with a knowledgeable and solutions-oriented team on your side. 23.01.2022 Our Managing Director, Sarah Thapa travelled in India earlier this year with NPI Group India to talk about investment migration opportunities to Australia. She shares her experience of the city of Chandigarh with its wide avenues, beautiful, lush gardens, and a metropolitan vibe much like Canberra in Australia. "Now more than ever, this is an opportune time to explore opportunities for people from around the world to invest in Australia for those seeking a better quality of... life, financial and health security and access to new opportunities. There are also huge benefits to our economy, and my prediction is that the Business & Investor Visa Program will be a strong area of focus for the Australian Government to attract investment." https://www.themigrationagency.com.au/successful-residence/ #theTMAway #smartimmigration #investorvisa #businessvisa #investmentmigration #citizenshipbyinvestment #australianPR

23.01.2022 IMPORTANT ALERT: The Government this week announced a new Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) - a list of skilled occupations that will receive priority visa processing and allow travel exemptions to Australia during the border closures. The 17 occupations on the PMSOL are in the health care, construction and IT sectors and will permit small numbers of skilled workers to travel to Australia to fill urgent skills needs in critical sectors. Visa holders who have... been sponsored by an Australia business in a PMSOL occupation can now request an exemption from Australias travel restrictions, subject to a strict 14 days quarantine on arrival at their expense. Visa applications for all other occupations will still be processed, but priority will be given to occupations on the PMSOL. The full list of priority occupations can be viewed here >>>> https://minister.homeaffairs.gov.au//supporting-australian We are here as your trusted advisor in times of change. If you need immigration advice or would like to start planning for the next phase of business and borders re-opening, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us for a 1-1 discussion at [email protected].

22.01.2022 With the year that 2020 has been due to the covid-19 pandemic, and with the current climate around the declining status of the Australian economy, the Federal Budget has been at the forefront of many minds as this is expected to provide a more tangible outline of what can be expected in the year to follow. The Federal Budget 2020-21 was released on 6 October 2020 and with it came a number of changes that impact the immigration industry. The predictions in the budget papers in...dicate that there will be an estimated decrease in the net overseas migration numbers (reducing from 154,000 to 82,800) for the year 2020-21, however, the numbers are expected to gradually increase to approximately 201,000 by 2023-24. The key announcements related to the Department of Home Affairs and the migration program for the year 2021-21 are outlined in our blog. 20.01.2022 We have received many enquiries about financial and social support for temporary visa holders who find themselves out of work. The Australian Government will provide funding to the Australian Red Cross for the next 6 months to deliver emergency relief and casework support to temporary visa holders. Once the Red Cross receives the funding, it will expand assistance to people who are experiencing significant vulnerability, such as food, medicine and crisis accommodation costs. ...Visa holders may be eligible for Red Cross Safety Net support if they are in Australia on a temporary visa, are in urgent financial hardship, cannot access Centrelink, Medicare or similar services, and have no income, savings or other financial support (including from family overseas). Further visa information is available on the Red Cross website. #coronavirus #emergencyrelief See more

19.01.2022 The family sponsored stream of the subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional Visa has attracted little attention since it was introduced in November 2019, but in light of the recent downturn in invitations for other general skilled migration visas this is an option worth exploring for skilled individuals who have relatives in Australia and hope to achieve permanent residency. 19.01.2022 EXCLUSIVE: Exclusive data showcases insights about the Global Talent Independent Visa Program Based on the information we obtained from the Department of Home Affairs, around 10 per cent of applicants who apply for the Global Talent Independent Visa are rejected. This is surprising, considering applicants had the skill profile to be invited to apply but are still refused during visa processing. 17.01.2022 We are frequently asked about sponsoring employees from abroad. At face value, it sounds complicated or time-consuming, or out of reach for businesses that may be smaller or dont have international connections or operations. The truth is that many businesses miss out on the opportunity to recruit foreign talent simply because they dont know the facts. This guide points out some of the common myths surrounding the sponsorship of foreign workers in Australia, and shows how practically any business of any size benefits from international talent. #theTMAway #smartimmigration #wegetitsorted #immigrationstrategy

17.01.2022 Financial Support for Jobseekers: There is financial support soon to be available for newly arrived residents who have lost their job or had work hours reduced due to the Coronavirus. Once the legislation is passed, the usual 2 or 4 year waiting period will be waived. The Social Services Minister has also announced yesterday that the Government is exploring how it can assist other foreign workers who have lost their jobs but are unable to return home, such as such workers in... the tourism and hospitality sectors. Thanks to Allanah Maguire for sharing this update.

15.01.2022 IMPORTANT ALERT: BUSINESS TRAVEL EXEMPTIONS The Australian Border Force Commissioner has broadened the travel exemption pathways available for foreign workers with critical skills or working in sectors critical to Australias economic recovery. 14.01.2022 UPDATE: A second announcement regarding additional labour market testing requirements for employers spells significant changes for organisations wanting to hire global talent. The new requirements, which came into effect on 3 September, mean employers will need to undertake additional advertising for nominations lodged after September 30. Employers must now advertise a vacancy on the Governments Jobactive website for 28 days, in addition to usual advertising criteria (two na...tional advertisements). This measure aims to ensure that Australian citizens and permanent resident job seekers are given opportunities for employment, before overseas workers. It is also anticipated that the Department will use the platform to verify whether employers are making genuine attempts to offer vacant roles to unemployed Australians. If you need immigration advice on labour market testing in the current economic climate, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us for a 1-1 discussion at [email protected].

14.01.2022 The experts have recommended to restore skilled migration numbers to pre-Covid levels to support Australias economic recovery, and the Prime Minister agrees cutting immigration would hurt the economy. Given the global and local circumstances, it is inevitable that immigration rates will fall in the short term but we can't use it as excuse to permanently shut our doors to talent and skills. Diversity + Innovation = Growth #theTMAway

05.01.2022 The Migration Agency was founded out of a vision to help companies to and individuals to access top talent and employment opportunities through smart and strategic immigration. Over time it became apparent that not only did businesses need help with the legalities of hiring global talent, they also needed help identifying where the talent was located and to fill skilled positions. Not having the right people in the right positions at the right time can potentially create operational risk for the business. And thats why we are delighted about our new venture Global Talent Agency, which offers the full international recruitment solution to help clients attract, hire and mobilise the best talent from around the world to their business. #smartimmigration #theTMAway #wegetitsorted #globaltalent #smartrecruitment

05.01.2022 The entrepreneurial desire to innovate and grow remains strong, despite the uncertain climate created by COVID-19 and challenges it has posed for business owners. Immigration and global talent are top-of-mind topics, and it is still possible for innovative companies and entrepreneurs to take advantage of Australias visa programs, despite current limitations. Sarah Thapa recently presented at the Sydney Landing Pad, an event by Haymarket HQ to help fast-growing, innovative companies in Asia gain a foothold in the Australian market.

04.01.2022 2020 has been a massive year and I’m so proud of what The Migration Agency team achieved. It’s not all been rosey. In March, Australia’s borders closed and we had no idea what was in store. It was a difficult time to make commercial decisions with little information, but we chose to keep our team together. One of our values is We Have Each Other’s Back. Having a team aligned to our mission and values is supremely important, as is a solid network of advisors and partners to na...vigate a path forward. To everyone in my team who chose to step up and be brave rather than freak out or check out, I thank you. I honestly couldn’t have done it without you. Here is an insight into our 2020: 465 new clients helped with advice or an application initiated. 12 travel exemptions, resulting in reunited families and repatriated staff. 381 new DOHA applications, out of which 2 were refused for COVID-related reasons. This is a solid approval rating of 99.48%. 31 industry briefing sessions attended, thanks to the Migration Institute of Australia 22 client RFI submissions addressing Covid-related issues. Its not quite been the year we planned, but overall there have been many learnings and I’m ready for 2021. Happy new year everyone Sarah Thapa

02.01.2022 Updates for 457/482 Visa Holders: The Government has announced that temporary visa holders including 457/482 employees cannot access the JobKeeper wage subsidy. 457/482 visa holders who are stood down but not laid off can remain in Australia on their current visa without risk of cancellation and apply to renew their visa. Reductions to work hours are acceptable without breaching visa conditions. 457/482 visa holders who lose their job will continue to need to find another spo...nsor within 60 days or depart Australia. They can access up to $10,000 of their superannuation to support living costs during this financial year. It is still unclear how the Department will assess the need for the position or Labour Market Testing for future TSS nominations, if unemployment rises in the Australian labour market. #thetmaway #jobkeeper #smartmigration #wegetitsorted #coronavirus

01.01.2022 UPDATE: Foodbank Christmas Food Drive With Christmas only days away, TMA's Christmas Food Drive in our office building has helped collect items for distribution to food relief organisations supporting people in need. Foodbank is one of our wonderful charity partners, they supplied an incredible 77 million meals to over 2,400 charities and 2,000 schools last year. Right now, there is a deficit of food available for charities in NSW and ACT who are having to turn away 10,000 p...eople a month. Due to COVID, food insecurity is increasing and more people have been forced to go without food due to loss of employment. Our small contribution will helpfully mean some families are fed over the holidays, students get meals so they can keep paying rent, and the elderly who can’t get to the shops themselves receive nutritious food.
