25.01.2022 Had a blast this week, spending a whole day with Capalaba State College's Volleyball and Basketball student athletes and sharing some ideas on improving the "mental" parts of performance. It's an area that continues to be an afterthought in athlete/team preparation. A brilliant initiative by Capalaba State College to prioritise this stuff! #performancepsychology ... #sportspsychology #sportpsychology #mentaltoughness #mentalskills #mindset See more
25.01.2022 Finished off the third and final Performance Psychology video session for @redlandsutd This session was on becoming a VALUES DRIVEN ATHLETE rather than simply relying on goals as a motivator - something so vital in the current climate where a lot of the goals we might have had at the start of the year simply aren't an option at the moment. Even had a guest drop in for the recording #cockatoo ... #psychologist #performancepsychology #performance #positivepsychology #values #consultant #consulting @ The Mind and Movement Company
25.01.2022 Putting the final touches on the 2nd of three Performance Psychology Videos for @redlandsutd This one is an Intro on BUILDING YOUR CONCENTRATION MUSCLE by adopting mindfulness and present moment awareness practices as a way to improve performance. #covid_19 has been an opportunity to develop new skills - for me that's been working out how to make videos when workshops aren't logistically possible!... #mindfulness #performancepsychology #performance #highperformance #positivepsychology #psychologist #consulting #consultant

24.01.2022 In unpredictable, uncertain times - like we're in at the moment - I think one of the most powerful things we can do is to focus on the opportunities this creates. This is an interesting take on the whole Pandemic / Working from home issue, and Sir Isaac Newton's experiences. What OPPORTUNITIES are now available to you? ... More time with the kids? Opportunity for regular exercise? More time to cook/prep meals? Less time commuting to/from work? Or perhaps it's an opportunity to connect with old friends, or learn new skills? #covid19 #covid-19 #positivepsychology #opportunities #whenonedoorcloses

24.01.2022 MONDAY MOTIVATION: Where is your focus ? Is it on the things outside of your control?... Or are you focusing on the things within your control ? In any moment, in any challenge - including the challenges of Covid19, there is far greater power in shifting our focus on energy to the things we can control. In a world full of the unpredictable, start by taking a small action. Focus on what you can control. It might be as simple as going for a walk calling a loved one going to sleep at a reasonable time so you can start again fresh tomorrow What are you doing to take control? #mondaymotivation #controlthecontrollables #locusofcontrol #positivepsychology #performancepsychology

23.01.2022 The last two years have been FULL I'm taking the time out during Covid19 for some self-reflection. In the last two years, I've left the security of a "regular job", started my own business, consulted with some amazing companies, and had the opportunity to travel through work .... One of the highlights though, has been the work as a Performance Psychologist for Team Fiji at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and Samoa 2019! Pacific Games. An unbelievable experience. During these unpredictable times, there's real value in slowing down, and taking a moment to reflect and be grateful for what we do have @ The Mind and Movement Company

19.01.2022 Are you an athlete, coach, administrator or parent involved in sport? Then consider coming along (or joining us online) for Friday's National Symposium on Sports Persons' Mental Health and Well-being! So often, when we think about sport and athletes, we are focused almost solely on the performance. One of the things Covid19 has highlighted is the importance of considering an athlete's mental health and wellbeing, as a precursor and key ingredient to high perf...ormance. This is a great opportunity to further that dialogue. I'm looking forward to hearing from experts in the field and contributing to that discussion. #mentalhealth #mentaltoughness #sportspsychology #performancepsychology

06.01.2022 In May, Athlete365 carried out a survey to understand the challenges athletes are facing in this current climate. More than 4,000 athletes and stakeholders from 135 countries completed the survey, In response to the question, What are you currently finding most challenging?, the top three concerns included: - Finding it hard to train effectively (56% of respondents)... - Struggling to keep motivated (50% of respondents) - Managing mental health (32% of respondents) If you are struggling with any of the above, know that you are not alone. 01.01.2022 MONDAY MOTIVATION: This is a quote I came across while visiting the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum back in 2014. It refers to the devastation caused by the Atomic Bomb, and the belief that nothing would grow there for 75 Years.... And yet, things did grow. People did return. And Hiroshima is again a thriving, bustling city. In a different way, and a different context, today we are facing our own challenges through covid19. I find that in times like these, it's helpful to reflect on past challenges overcome, both at our own individual level, and more broadly as a global community. #mondaymotivation #resilience #positivepsychology #growthmindset #wellbeing #optimism
