18.01.2022 Reducing the duration of illness in children Over the past 15-20 years there has been a shift in the way we perceive childhood infectious disease, in particular colds and flus. Advertising has encouraged the view that we should take a pill to reduce the symptoms so that the flow of our busy lives is not interrupted. We continue working and socialising. There is a certain amount of societal stress and pressure associated with being unwell and taking time off work to recover.... This thinking has pervaded the manner in which we now take care of children. More often than not children suffering from acute diseases continue attending school during the week or parties on the weekend and by doing so are likely to increase the duration of their illness. We all need rest and time to recover from sickness. Staying at home, being quiet in conjunction with the medicine of your choosing may not be what you want to do but it is in the best interests of your child and self.

17.01.2022 Choosing the Right Practitioner The practitioner - client relationship is all important in the healing experience. Healing is enhanced by having a trusting and open relationship with your practitioners. Always trust your gut instinct when you have the first appointment with the practitioner. For example - are you being heard? Do you feel judged? Do you feel comfortable talking about yourself in their presence? It has become apparent to me over many years from a patients and practitioners perspective that if the trust and the feeling of connectedness are palpable then healing will occur.

08.01.2022 The pre-conception months are a marvellous time to clean out and rebalance not just the physical body but also the emotional body. Lingering feelings of anxiety and fear can be brought back into balance so that they are not ruling your everyday thoughts and actions. There are a few modalities of course which address this. Homeopathy presents a gentle and expedient method to return the body to equilibrium.... Homeopathy can also bring the body back to a state of balance after a major stressful event, for example, sudden unexpected grief/ fear or anxiety experienced during pre-conception or during the pregnancy. 07.01.2022 Now is the time to prepare nourishing soups for the family, providing warmth and love in a bowl. Chicken stock recipe. Ingredients... apple cider vinegar I chicken carcass, organic if possible.( Roast a chicken the day before and use the carcass for stock) 1 onion, peeled and sliced into chunks 1 carrot, cut into large pieces, 1-2 sticks of celery cut into large pieces 1 bay leaf salt and pepper. Preparation Almost fill the largest pot you have with water. Place the carcass and a desertspoon of apple cider vinegar into the pot. Leave for 20 minutes Add the other ingredients and bring to a rolling boil Skim off the scum. Place a lid on the pot and reduce the temperature to a low simmer. Simmer for a minimum of 6 hours and a maximum of 24 hours. Strain once cooled. You can now place in glass containers, freeze for 3 months or keep in the fridge for a 7 days. Fabulous as a base for sauces as well as a basic soup. My favourite soup at the moment is to add broccoli florets, diced carrot, ginger and garlic to the stock. Cook veggies until they are soft. Place in a bowl, add a poached egg and some avocado on the side. Soups are so versatile. Add the veggies and spices your family likes eating.

06.01.2022 Thinking about having a baby... Pre-conception Health The parental diet plays a pivotal role in the pursuit of healthy babies.... Remove processed food with all the added GMOs, colourings, flavouring, sugar ( especially in the form of corn syrup) and increase the amount of whole foods in the diet, with organic veggies and fruits, healthy fats - nuts, seeds avocado, raw butter, ghee, yogurt, nut oils , olive oil and free-range or organic meats . Add to this bone broths, which are in vogue at the moment, but of course have been consumed by traditional and Europeans for centuries. If you have no serious digestive problems or allergies, chronic fatigue etc then potatoes, sourdough bread and wholegrain can be consumed. Probiotics, folic acid, and cod liver oil are also recommended. Household and personal care items need reviewing for toxins. Remember , its the overall toxic load you are looking at , so the less there is, the easier it is for your body to function at its best. Deoderant, hair products, soaps, make-up products, any product which emits a fragrance, flame retardants( in new sofas, cars and clothes) and household cleaning agents. Its about being aware and making informed choices which suit you and your family.
