24.01.2022 COVID-19 has presented us with an unprecedented challenge. Australians are being asked to take measures that weve never had to before things like cancelling travel, not going to concerts and general social distancing. You may be wondering how this affects your physiotherapy treatment. We at The Movement Team continue to offer quality care for our patients. There are many things we are doing as professionals to minimise risk of exposure through rigorous hygiene practices a...nd patient screening to keep you and our staff safe. So, you are welcome to come in for your treatment, subject to our screening processes. However, if you are in self-isolation or would prefer to minimise contact in any way, you may like to make an appointment to have an online consultation with us, commonly known as Telehealth. Telehealth uses digital technology thats readily available on your computer or phone to receive treatment from our physio. It is safe and effective, and our physios are trained to deliver telehealth consultations. Our standard consultation via telehealth is offered at a lower rate as at present they do not have the ability to apply a private health care rebate. If you would like to talk to us about continuing your treatment through Telehealth, please call us on 07 32891644 Stay safe and well. The Movement Team

23.01.2022 What better way to start a Friday off than a pregnancy exercise session. How happy are these girls to be doing their squats Squats are a fantastic exercise to strengthen your buttock and thighs along with maintaining hip and knee range during your pregnancy.... By using the gym ball you are giving support to your lower back and pelvis. This also reduces the load on your back and pelvis. You can go straight up and down or you can add some pulses and heel raises to mix it up. If you are unsure what exercise to do during pregnancy and are wanting to keep fit, give us a call now to book in with Mel. More ante natal exercise sessions will be COMING SOON Or if you are struggling with pelvic girdle pain, give Mel a call know to book an individual appointment for an assessment and individual exercise programming. And remember if you are pregnant, the gym ball is your friend Happy weekend . . . . . #pregnancyexercise #pregnancy #fitpregnancy #pregnancyfitness #fitmom #healthypregnancy #pregnancyworkout #prenatalfitness #motherhood #postpartum #fitmum #fitness #babybump #postnatalfitness #pregnant #fitnessmotivation #mumlife #postpartumexercise #postpartumfitness #prenatalexercise #coreexercise #9months #baby #exercised #exerciseideas #exercisetherapy #exercisevideos #floorexercise #maternitystyle #physiobrisbane

18.01.2022 WORKING FROM HOME - TMT THREE PART SERIES As the final part of our three part series we are discussing what you can do throughout the day to minimise risk of potential pain. A few tips that we have to pass on (and this doesnt just have to be limited to working at home - you can also carry this into working in the office). * Vary positions throughout the day. Whether it be making a more conscious effort to get a few glasses of water throughout the day or hand delivering a me...ssage rather than emailing it * Sit in positions that are comfortable. No need to feel guilty about not sitting with good posture (I mean weve already banished that idea in our first part of the series). Only be aware of how you sit if you notice certain positions cause you any discomfort * Strength training - The World Health Organisation recommends 150 minutes of physical activity AND two resistance training sessions a week. Strengthening is a great way to minimise risk of injury. If youre interested in starting some strengthening sessions - Jarrod runs a Shoulder strengthening Group (Tuesday 6pm) and a Back strengthening group (Wednesday 6pm) every week (and he does vary between a few more than just the 4 exercises above). This concludes our three part series on working/school from home. If you have any ideas on what we could do for another series - please let us know!

10.01.2022 WORKING & SCHOOL FROM HOME As part of our three part series - we have completed an article review to go with the Can you have bad posture? post we made last week. Neck pain prevalence in young adolescents is almost the same as the adult population. And as the fourth cause of disability around the world its important to understand the factors that contribute to this. One common link in this population, is the increased use of phones causing a forward head posture (see the... middle image on the first photo). Research done by Damasceno et al. in 2017, investigated the prevalence of this text neck, and neck pain in 150, 18-21 year olds in Rio de Janeiro. They had patients self-report their neck pain occurences and physiotherapists Ax their neck range in their normal texting position. The conclusion drawn was that there was not a clinically significant link between text neck and episodes of neck pain. So why are we telling you this? To remind you that the neck is strong and dependable. We arent encouraging increased use of mobile phones (sorry kids), but we do want to remind everyone that posture/positioning of the neck isnt always correlated with neck pain. Unfortunately, what does cause neck pain? Really can only be answered with case by case basis.

07.01.2022 WORKING/SCHOOL FROM HOME a three-part series With most people attending school or working from home from home, The Movement Team has decided to do a three-part series on related topics: 1. Can posture be bad 2. Ergonomic desk set-up at home 3. Minimising strain throughout the day... We will be releasing these over the coming couple of weeks. The first part is talking about whether you can have bad posture? And to answer this simply the short answer is no. Posture has been hotly contested for years, but evidence and research has found that posture does not directly relate to causing injury/pain. Rather the accumulative load of one position, has been found to cause issues (think of it like bending your finger back for 3hrs your body wouldnt like it very much). What would we suggest? Varying positions! Get up out of your chair; stand up; do some shoulder rolls (literally anything) more on this to come! Well be releasing some article reviews on our Facebook page that relate to this posture debate. Including one about the link between text neck and neck pain/headaches in young adults (17 years).

06.01.2022 Thanks so much to Nadia, Stevie and the team for meeting with Mel today. Mel loves helping women feel move and comfortable during their pregnancy. So today she went out to meet the lovely ladies from @activetruth to find out more about the maternity tights and tights range (@activetruthmaternity ) Whilst Mel isnt pregnant, she gave the pregnancy tights a test run and they were extremely comfortable and snug. So comfy that Mel cant wait to get her hands on a pair of the st...andard tights for herself. Along with keeping active during your pregnancy, the maternity tights will provide support for your bump, back, hips and pelvic. And you can wear them after the birth of your baby! Mel also chatted pelvic floor and went through some stretching and pelvic floor exercise with the team! 03.01.2022 More people around the world are working from home than ever and therefore more people are not working their usual office environments. Desktops, ergonomic chairs and desks are being swapped out for laptops, couches and kitchen tables - the result is a predictable change in posture and unfamiliar loading of joints and muscles. Sore necks, sore backs and tight hips may be a problem for you right now that you havent had before in your regular work environment. Read on if your...e interested in optimising your WFH space to ensure youre not needing to head to the physio to get your neck treated! Screen Position has been found to be the number one reason for neck pain in office workers. With your head weighing between 5 and 6kg looking down at a laptop can double the load placed on your neck muscles! After staying in this position for hours, there is a high chance of you ending the day with a stiff neck and begging your significant other for a massage or needing a trip to your local physio. 1. Position your screen (if possible) so that your eyes line up horizontally with the top of your screen. If this isnt possible with your set up, take frequent breaks to move your head around. 2. Invest in a wireless keyboard and mouse to allow for more versatility in your workspace 3. Invest in a cheap external computer monitor to guarantee proper screen positioning. Desk and Chair Heights also play an important role in creating a comfortable working environment. Having a desk too high or too low will result in a suboptimal arm and shoulder position. When seated and relaxed, your elbows should line up with the top of your desk/table. If your desk/table is too tall, you will constantly need to lift your arms up onto your desk which may result in an overload of the trapezius and neck muscles. The same can be said for chair or seat height - when seated, your hips should be higher than your knees and your feet should be able to sit comfortably flat on the ground. Having your knees higher than your hips can result in tight hip flexor muscles and a sore lower back. If you dont have a taller chair, use a pillow to increase the height of your hips. Having an adjustable seat that allows you to have your hips slightly higher than your knees will minimise tension through your hip flexor muscles and lower back. As well as a chair with a supportive back. Having the desk at a height that can support your forearms, will minimise overload in the trapezius and neck muscles. Keyboard and Mouse Position is another thing to consider when optimizing your setup. Make sure theyre not too far away from you or too close. They should be a comfortable distance while resting your forearms on your desk to ensure you are not needing to constantly raise or lower your hands.

02.01.2022 We feel very fortunate to be part of Healthia, with a wider group of practices that are able to pool healthcare resources and expertise. Currently, they are bulk billing all appointments to help support the Public System and you do not need a referral to attend.
