25.01.2022 A beautiful image. A beautiful message. Art by @woodard_julie
25.01.2022 Its hard for them too. But with some kids, asking a direct question such as are you sad about not going to school? wont get you far. You might find yoursel...f just getting a big, defensive NO! fired right back. If this sounds familiar, heres another approach. Im EXHAUSTED. Does anyone else in this house feel exhausted? Who would have thought staying home could be so tiring? Do you think thats why Im tired? Or is it something else? Maybe its because everything is different to normal. Maybe thats why Im tired. I need a lie down. I feel like I miss all the things we normally do. Like going to work, and school and Nannas. Everything feels so strange and weird. I think I might call Nanna for a chat. I wish everything would hurry up and go back to normal! Im sorry if Im a bit snappy. I just dont feel like myself. Maybe I need to have a cup of tea and some big deep breaths. I feel a bit angry about all this today. I miss my friends. I even miss my work! Do you miss anyone? What do you think we should do about it? ...Share your experience and how it feels for you (in an age-appropriate way). In doing so, youll show them its ok to have feelings. Its ok to talk about it. Were all in this together, and theres things we can do to help ourselves cope just a little bit better.
24.01.2022 The links between Music and Language are so fascinating! Interactive experiences in language (and music) with loved ones helps to build awareness of sound, rhythm, melody and find patterns in the sounds.
24.01.2022 In children playing a musical instrument, there is a strong beneficial influence of music experience on brain development.
24.01.2022 The importance of smaller steps
24.01.2022 Children love repetition because they love learning. Each time your child reads or hears a book read to them, they learn more about the story. They also increase their Vocabulary and Word Recognition, become more aware of the pattern and rhythm of language. Knowing that, maybe itll help you stay sane while you read that book or sing that song for the 1000th time says this article
23.01.2022 Learning an instrument as an adult allows you space from other stress factors and can boost your overall well being. It’s about giving ourselves permission to be learners and, in a way be kids again says this article.
23.01.2022 Something to ponder this evening...
23.01.2022 What a lovely way to introduce young children to the instruments of the orchestra. Thanks Oregon Symphony Orchestra. Heres a favourite featuring the flute. Well post the link to the others in the comments.
22.01.2022 "Those who wish to sing always find a song." (Swedish proverb) Singing is good for the soul. It can have a really positive effect on physical and emotional well being and help lift the spirits. Group singing has been used for thousands of years to build a sense of community and bonding. Thanks to all the families who participated, were really proud of you all. At the Music Playground, we value singing, not to create solo singers, but because all musical people should be confident singing songs such as Happy Birthday or a lullaby to a baby, without feeling uncertain about the sound of their own voice. We believe a holistic musical experience must provide experiences that train ear, mind, heart and hand so we created this virtual space to sing together even though we were apart in Term 2, 2020.
21.01.2022 "Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet.... "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I dont think I do." "Thats okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often dont feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know youve got someone there for you. And Ill always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." Sending our thoughts to those having a Difficult Day today and hope you have your own Piglet to sit beside you
21.01.2022 Young children need to enjoy the process of learning. Educators and parents can emphasize the joys of trying new activities and learning something novel. We need to help children understand that mistakes are a welcome, normal part of learning. This period is also the time to establish a growth mindsetthe belief that talents and abilities are developed through effort instead of being innately fixed says this article. Wise advice :)
21.01.2022 Watch this space for a special Music Playground version of the Skye Boat Song, coming very soon. In the meantime, enjoy this beautiful version of the old Scottish song too.
20.01.2022 Your baby doesnt care whether you are in tune or not.they just love the sound of your voice. When you are singing, smiling and looking at them, they love that you are giving them your time and attention. Your voice is the most powerful tool you have to teach your child language! Bookings are now open for our online infant/toddler class, where we teach you - the parent, the best songs to interact with your child.
20.01.2022 We were so happy to teach Music Club today via Zoom. It was great to see happy faces singing fun songs together. If you have a child in Music Club, have they taught you a song yet? We need silly songs now more than ever!
18.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all our wonderful Parents. Also sending virtual hugs to all those who are missing their mums today and cant be with them.
18.01.2022 The power of music.....thanks to Keep Music Alive for sharing.....
18.01.2022 Today even the magpies joined in the singing, they seem to really like our music too! It has been so lovely to be outside singing in the park with the children and spreading a little cheer within our community during November and December. Today was our last live session for 2020, thanks to everyone who came on a journey with us, and hopefully we see you all again back in our beautiful studio in 2021. We're already planning some special events in January, I'll post some announcements here after Christmas.
17.01.2022 Were test-driving online lessons ready to start next week.
16.01.2022 Were working hard to give you the best possible online music education. Looking forward to classes starting again next week!
16.01.2022 There are so many beautiful reasons to make music with your children, but it's always nice to know it's teaching them life skills too.
15.01.2022 To those of you holding many feelings for children in these weeks, thank you. Reorganizing daily life is not easy, but we are grateful to watch the world make e...fforts large and small to protect vulnerable people. In the coming days, we will be sharing resources from partner organizations for those of you looking for ways to create learning opportunities and structure for children at home. We will also continue to share reminders and resources from Fred Rogers about what children may need from the adults in their lives during these uncertain times. See more
14.01.2022 This made us smile today. Hope it makes you smile too. Being a grown up is definitely overrated
14.01.2022 The Suzuki Triangle at work. Thanks to all our wonderful parents who help us teach your children :)
13.01.2022 Suzuki often said "Ability Develops Early." He started children learning an instrument from three years when it was the norm for them to begin lessons around eight years old. Its great to see science agreeing with his ideas too!
13.01.2022 Small Steps achieve big things :)
12.01.2022 This is true for early care and education professionals too. Narrating what were doing in front of infants, toddlers and preschoolers is an important early lit...eracy development strategy called Self Talk. Similarly, narrating what a young child is doing in real-time is called Parallel Talk. (Part of) Co-Regulation: Self Talk as you are calming yourself down in front of young children. (Ex. Im so mad right now because I forgot to bring my lunch! Ok, Im going to take a deep breath to help me calm down - breathes deeply - Im feeling a little better now but Im still a little upset. I could sure use a hug right now...)

11.01.2022 As masks are becoming a common sight on our streets, we went to the studio today to make this video to help carers talk to children about wearing masks and hopefully ease any uncertainty they may have. We used the melody from the Scottish Song "Loch Lomond" and wrote our own words. When putting on a mask, here are some of the safety rules to follow: wash hands, then put it on. Dont touch the front. Take off, wash hands. #justwearthemask #coronavirus #staysafe
10.01.2022 This woman has made a group class at home all by herself.
10.01.2022 This is so playful, and creative! https://youtu.be/GCTyFp0PpHE
10.01.2022 Thanks Play School! Sharing as we know this will be helpful to many of our families.
06.01.2022 Did you know babies use their music processing network to identify people and learn how to move? Music really is so important right from birth!
06.01.2022 The Playground is still making music, because making music makes us happy. Our qualified teachers can help you make your home into a Music Playground too. Book Here: Playtime(2.5-6yo) - https://www.trybooking.com/HGNO Small Steps (birth-2y) https://www.trybooking.com/HFVA
05.01.2022 Einstein’s parents did not enroll him in physics lessons. Instead, Einstein’s father included him in his work as an engineer. His mother signed him up for violin lessons because she wanted him to love and appreciate music. Both activities worked to develop his young mind holistically. It is tempting to think of early childhood education as a precursor to real education. But these may be the years that matter most says this article. Research suggests that some skills cannot ...be learned nearly as well after this first critical period of brain development. For example, research shows that children in this age range are best suited to learn the patterns of language development, enabling them to master a second language to the same level as a native language. However, once children reach age 8, their language learning proficiency decreases, and second languages are not spoken as well as native ones. The same age effect is found when learning musical abilities such as perfect pitch. See more
05.01.2022 At the Music Playground weve been working hard behind the scenes learning the very best mix of ways to teach students online. Its nice to know that our colleagues in other parts of the world are finding the experience can be effective. Each instrumental teacher will reach out to their students to discuss how the lessons will be delivered and we can offer our families technical support to set up at home. We are determined to keep the music going!
04.01.2022 This is a lovely video series about Beethoven made by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for primary school aged kids. Theres a whole series of them to watch with your child. https://youtu.be/asq-nH4KsOw
04.01.2022 Music has positive benefits for children of all ages, and a quality, sequential music education in the primary years offers the building blocks not just for more advanced music education but for learning more broadly, says this article.
03.01.2022 True.....thanks to Spirit of Harmony Foundation for sharing.....
01.01.2022 It's always fascinating to see where children's songs come from...
01.01.2022 As music is a fundamental tool to help bond with babies and toddlers, The Music Playground has a pre-recorded class led by our fully qualified teachers completely free to families during the Covid19 crisis. We have done this since April 2020, because sharing music creates such joy in a home and we wanted to help combat the isolation facing young mothers and babies. There's no zoom fatigue and less stress because you can press pause if your child needs a break for any rea...son at any time. Because children love repetition, you can watch the class as many times as you like during the week too. We have helped over 100 families make their home into a Music Playground this year.
