25.01.2022 It all makes sense now

24.01.2022 Lift . I’m a huge advocate of overall being physically active for your health. While I don’t think everyone HAS to lift weights, the evidence is a prett...y strong guide that it’s highly beneficial for everyone to do it. . Staying active can help ward off a lot of factors related to inactivity and aging, but some things are best achieved with a good ol fashioned workout. Maintaining (or increasing) muscle mass and power are huge things that are often not able to done through other activities. Some kind of resistance training is key - calisthenics, bands, dumbbells, etc. . If someone informs you it’s bad for you, they’re almost for sure wrong. If we are talking about gradual, progressive resistance training, there are almost no health conditions or pathologies where it’s actually not advised when we read the research (key there, read the research). . Have a good day, stay strong! #movementculture #functionaltraining #liftweights #strengthtraining See more

16.01.2022 Kettlebell Alternating Swing Snatch O/H Squat Developing more functional power in the superficial and deep posterior lines. Increases shoulder stability and flexibility.... Overhead single arm squat helps flexibility, stability and coordination. Great cardiovascular workout too. Working with a 24kg bell, 5 sets of 3-5 a side, from my sunday session, this was my last set and not my best form. #kettlebell #kettlebellswing #kettlebellsnatch #powerlifting #strength #thestrengthcoach #australianstrengthacademy #ASA #houseofpower #focus #squat #overheadsquat #performance #physicaltherapy #functionalmovement #movewell #hipmobility #lumbar #corestability #corestrength #neutralspine #hip #hipstability

15.01.2022 INBA open fitness champ and sports model Rachel Gabrielli @rach____xx dropped by today to have some niggles seen to. Here we are doing some electro-needling on an overactive TFL and anterior gluteus medius and using moxa to get some heat into a cluneal nerve entrapment prior to manipulation. She is a very hard working athlete and still polite enough to laugh at my dad jokes.

13.01.2022 So, who treats the therapist? I hear you ask. I have regular treatments from Myotherapists, my chiropractor, or my Acupuncturist. My point is that no matter how much we know, what techniques we can do, self diagnosis and self care, and how much preventive maintenance we perform, there are many things we can't do ourselves. When you're feeling good it's the last thing on your mind, and this is precisely the optimum time to have work done. Before there's an issue.... I've been training hard lately with a mix of old and new techniques, treating clinic patients, and sitting behind the computer. Been feeling great until I kinda overdid it with the front squats. It started with a little tightness in the lower back and gradually the insidious pain crept into the lower back, glutes, hips, groin and short adductors. I self tested to identify the pain trigger. Was it lumbar radiculopathy, sacroiliac joint pain, gluteal bursitis, or primary hip pathological conditions? If you know my history you might expect the worst. (My lumbar spine has been described so eloquently by an interventional radiologist as "A mess") It seems my focus on core stability has been successful. In fact it was neuralgia of superior cluneal nerve due to some tight fascia causing entrapment, or "clunealgia" often misdiagnosed as SIJ or Lumbar problems and this condition makes up about 12 percent of reported chronic low back pain. Kuniya H, Aota Y, Kawai T, Kaneko K, Konno T, Saito T. Prospective study of superior cluneal nerve disorder as a potential cause of low back pain and leg symptoms. Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research. 2014;9:139. doi:10.1186/s13018-014-0139-7 I felt the need to write about this as, apart from myself, this pain referral pattern has presented in my clinic 5 times in the last week. Treatment involved mobilisation of the nerves, spinal manipulation, addressing fascial restrictions in the upper back, shoulders, adductors, and hamstrings, laser to modulate inflammation, and I expect to be 100% in a day or so. Find a workaround and keep training. Pics 1&2 - anatomy of the lower back and hips. Pic 3 - pain referral patterns. #lowbackpain #hippain #clunealnerve

10.01.2022 Flashback. I really miss being up on the big stage with a bunch of cool, badass mofo's, rockin' out like there's no tomorrow. #rockmusic #livemusic #drummer #drumlife #rockshow #hardandheavy

07.01.2022 Bulgarian Split Squats. Some folks call it the ultimate lower body functional strength test. Sometimes I go heavy(ish), sometimes volume, and every now and then I'll do them as a plyometric move to increase neural and muscle fibre recruitment to help develop power.... Since I'm working on Pistol Squats I'm adding them in today in my Sunday session with a relatively light(ish) pair of 14kg kettlebells for 5 sets of 6 per side. Feel free to tag and share. #bulgariansplitsquat #plyometric #plyometrictraining #powerlifting #strength #thestrengthcoach #australianstrengthacademy #ASA #houseofpower #focus #squat #singlelegsquat #pistolsquat #performance #physicaltherapy #functionalmovement #movewell #hipmobility #lumbar #corestability #corestrength #neutralspine #hip #hipstability

04.01.2022 Medial Knee pain treatment. Client presented c/o pain through VMO during weight bearing flexion (squat) I applied an internal tibial rotation and had client repeat movement with substantial decrease in pain. Then repeated as treatment as per Mulligan concept (st R Foot R Kn IR gl MWM F 3 x 6) & gave to the client as homework.... Then I treated the tibial external rotators which were over-active and tight. Incl: - Myofascial release to lateral quadriceps -Active release on TFL, Anterior fibres of Gluteus Medius - Low frequency electro dry-needling to Vastus Lateralus, TFL, Ant. Glute Med, & Glute Min. - Dry needling to lateral Gastrocnemius and short head of Biceps Femoris. A contributor to over-active TFL was a tight and weak Psoas. I performed a postural release technique and reactivated then gave a version of Psoas march as homework. Finished with a spiral taping to reinforce Tibial Internal rotation. I'll check in with the client in 48 hours to ascertain progress. Posted with clients permission. Thank you @big.spanj #knee #kneepain #dryneedling #electroneedling #tfl #quads #myofascialrelease #bicepsfemoris #psoas #mulliganconcept #bodybuildinglifestyle #bodybuilder #myotherapy

04.01.2022 How do you treat one of the strongest men in the country? Well, with politeness and respect would be a good start, lolz. This is Andrew Cooper @coop_strength , current Australian bench press record holder with 290kg and an unofficial PB of 300kg!!... As you'd expect he gets a bit of tightness and a few niggles (understatement). As with most of us who have experienced ongoing shoulder pain he's seen the doc, had some scans and given some familiar news. (Rant Alert!) - Bursitis (This is a symptom not a diagnosis) - Thickening of ligaments, tendons (Normal adaptation to load - Seriously, look at what this man does as a sport, you'd expect some change!) - Possible tendinopathy (Non-specific term for painful tendon because I can't say exactly what it is - tendonitis, tendinitis, tenosynovitis, tendinosis?) - Let's inject some corticosteroids and see if the pain goes away (Masking symptoms and not addressing issue) - Rest (No current scientific evidence recommends complete rest for tendonopathies. Modify, find a work around, correction of motor pattern, graded loading) Also, not an option for high level athletes. Extraordinary athletes sometimes require unconventional treatments. 30min at the physio for some stretching and coaching on rotator cuff drills won't cut it with this crowd. Yesterday I spent 2+hrs on Andrew's chest, triceps and upper shoulders. A combination of IASTM, active myofascial release and deep electro-needling to deload the structures causing irritation of pec major and long head biceps tendons followed by extracorporeal shockwave therapy on said tendons and laser. We also chat about exercise therapy and motorbikes. Get a good coach, I know a couple @the_strength_coach @australianstrengthacademy @tombro7 and get a good therapist. If you can't find one come see me. 01.01.2022 Turkish Get Up. So I've been playing with kettlebells for a short time and become quite fond of them. Last night I went to a workshop with the experts @qldkettlebells ... This is my "before" video. After the workshop I realised how sloppy my technique is and was expertly coached in many of the finer details of the goblet squat, 2-handed swing and turkish getup. Lots of improvement to come. Thanks to Piers, Nicci and Barry. #kettlebells #turkishgetup #strongfirst #stability #mobility #core
