11.01.2022 Mother Nature It’s been a tough week with soaring temperatures. We were exhausted keeping our girls alive. I struggled to find anything good, my hate outweighed the love of our life this week. But this Mumma and Puppa with these cutie patooties made me smile. Then Friday came, it had been building, with the worst of it and this made me nervous. Friday’s catastrophic fires bringing devastation in the Adelaide Hills, not far from us where we supply several businesses w...ith eggs, where Edi our fabulous employee lives having fought to save her home and where my fellow @mountpleasantfarmersmarketau stallholders live, where my kids and our friends and their families live, where our school is, where we play sport. You know how it is in small communities. We were all ok but when the smoke enveloped us it was scary, the kids were great and we were supported by friends until we knew all was ok. Knowing that you are ok, but there are houses lost, mass destruction, loss of livestock, pets, people fighting for their lives is heartbreaking. Restless night and Up at 4.30 grading eggs for our Saturday farmers market because it was too hot and the smoke rolled in the night before. It was unsettling not being able to contact anyone and not knowing how our fellow market friends were, but I’m glad I went, this market made my heart swell, with our community spirit, market family supporting each other jumping in to lend a hand. We walked in well after dark last night, knowing that once again this week would be big with hours of chicken training. Not a fun task. But I am thankful for the cfs and their efforts of outstanding bravery and commitment to their community but I am sad, so sad So it’s been a big one and today I felt emotional. It was the first day I was able to slow down I guess. I headed out the door and with the faint smell of smoke lingering in the air, I felt it. I cried, I shed tears a lot of them for the loss, the fear, the exhaustion, the unknown, the devastation that Mother Nature has left in her wake. See more
