24.01.2022 Today I chose to move my body by running followed by a home workout from @thestrongmovement I am by no means a fast runner, but I love it! And it’s important to choose activities you enjoy to keep yourself motivated. What is your favourite form of exercise? #newcastlenaturopath #moveeverydayinanyway

21.01.2022 Last night’s dinner was simple yet delicious it consisted of stir fried mixed veg sourced from the local farmer’s market @newcastlefarmersmarket with brown rice and quinoa, topped with homemade satay sauce. This is a great weeknight dinner if you’re short on time and want something healthy, satisfying and tasty #newcastlenaturopath #thenaturopathyclinic #veganrecipeideas

20.01.2022 Tonight was a float tank night (it was our first time and we loved it!), so I thought I’d put together a quick salad for dinner. This one is a pesto pearl couscous salad inspired by @elsas_wholesomelife #newcastlenaturopath #thenaturopathyclinic

12.01.2022 This is my best friend. She is covered with lumps and bumps. She has lots of grey fur. She has many warts. She has cloudy eyes due to cataracts. She sleeps more than the average dog. If it is even possible, I love her more now than ever before. For the past couple of months I have struggled to come to terms with the fact that Jetty is getting old, and at some point we will have to say goodbye. I felt as though my emotions around this were irrational...after all, Jet is still... healthy, there is nothing wrong with her. So I kept my feelings inside because I was conscious of what other people would think of me. I began to feel isolated and withdrawn, and for the first time in my life I have understood how a person can become lonely and depressed, in spite of being surrounded by people and having so much goodness in their lives. Finally I did reach out to my family and friends, and I am now even seeing a therapist. I am learning strategies to better cope with this unfamiliar territory, and am reframing my thoughts to view this from a different perspective. Don’t get me wrong, I still cry a lot!! But my point is, no matter how silly you think what you’re feeling is, the best thing you can do for yourself is to reach out and ask for help. What have you got to lose?! Being healthy also means looking after your emotional well-being, and in spite of being in a profession which involves being aware of all of these aspects of health, I still managed to lose sight of this momentarily. Please reach out and ask for help if you need it. You might just be surprised by how willing people are to offer their assistance, and by how useful their advice is. During these crazy times in particular, we need to be there for one another #thenaturopathyclinic #askforhelpitsok #olddogsarethebestdogs See more

08.01.2022 It’s a rainy day here at The Naturopathy Clinic! If you can, try to utilise days like these as an opportunity to slow down and be a little more gentle with yourself. Perhaps try more gentle exercise, like yin yoga Drink warm, nourishing herbal tea If you are moving less, eat less food as you do not require the extra calories. Keep yourself warm like my girl Jetty here #thenaturopathyclinic #yinyoga #herbalteaforhealth

04.01.2022 If you think salad is boring you’ve obviously never had one of my salads this little bowl of deliciousness contains quinoa, lettuce, asparagus, tomatoes, avocado, spring onions, red onion, olives, black beans, hemp seeds, pepitas, lemon juice, a tiny bit of vegan mayo, salt and pepper. It’s filling, it’s vegan, and it’s easy to make #youdowinfriendswithsalad #newcastlenaturopath #veganrecipes

02.01.2022 The first tomatoes have begun to appear on my little tomato tree!! I’ve just got this guy growing in a pot on my balcony, and he’s thriving! Anyone can have a little veggie patch, even if you are in an urban area and only have a balcony to work with. It’s incredibly rewarding, and you’ll save money on your grocery shopping! #newcastlenaturopath #thenaturopathyclinic #greenthumbinthemaking #homegrowntomatoes

02.01.2022 I have been a huge advocate for sleep for many years now, making it my priority to ensure I get 8-9 hours of sleep each night (lets be honest, sometimes it’s 10 hours ). Sleep is so important for so many reasons, but one of the most common health goals I hear from my patients is that they would like to lose weight. Whilst there are many contributors to weight gain, inadequate sleep is one that is often forgotten. Compounding matters is the fact that when we are sleep depriv...ed, we tend to opt for less healthy foods and beverages (coffee anyone??), and are unlikely to make time for physical activity. My advice? Implement these three changes to your bedtime routine today to improve your sleep and move closer to your weight goal: 1. Turn off all screens, including your phone, for the last hour before you go to bed and read a book 2. Ensure your room is dark to promote the production of your natural sleep hormone melatonin. If that isn’t possible, invest in a silk sleep mask. 3. Provide yourself with a wide enough sleep opportunity to ensure you achieve 8 hours of sleep For instance, if it takes you 30 minutes to fall asleep, you need to tack that on to the time you spend in bed, e.g. ensure you are in bed for 8.5 hours. Sweet dreams! #whywesleepbookmatthewwalker #newcastlenaturopath #thenaturopathyclinic #ilovesleep See more
