25.01.2022 I just found this on my ipad. I wrote it in my lunch break one day, obviously forgot the post to Facebook bit !!! Lol I felt the need today to post on this FB page hoping that this may help others going through the angst of whether to medicate or not. Like many we were concerned about medicating our Mr. 1 who was diagnosed with ADHD at 7. our Mr. 3 was diagnosed at the same age 7 years apart, and NO it was not an ounce easier second time round. This morning Mr No. 3 wakes ea...rly, first thing he always does is have his tablet ( Concerta LA) I find the earlier he has it, the earlier he can get off to sleep at night. I never wake him for it though. The medication usually takes an hr to start working so nearly everyday I don't see the effects of it because it has also worn off by the time he gets home. He was ready for school, ........all organised with 2 shoes on his feet, lunch packed, all his clothes on !! I breathed a sigh of relief as he casually walked out the driveway watching my little man doing normal stuff without that fire in his belly, remembering why we medicate him. It was for him, he can function and he can learn. Forget about your own pride, your families pride or name, do it for them. If you have a headache you have a panadol, if you are depressed you have antidepressants, sometimes we just need help. They need to learn to get a job and support their own family one day. It's highly likely they won't be able to sit still and learn anything without it. See more

25.01.2022 Wow ! Did I say I was a tad bit proud of this boy !? Jack started working with Maher Refrigeration and Electrical as an apprentice. He will do his Electrical apprenticeship first then hopefully Refrigeration after that,............if Eamon can put up with him that long !!! He still oooozes that ADHD confidence which I think Eamon manages to turn into constructive work,....thankfully. I love this kid to bits and he continues to impress me with his never ending ability to be the best he can be at whatever he does.

18.01.2022 Oh my lord ! We ran out of slow release tablets and reverted to the old ones, 2 per day. Oooooops forgot the second dose at school ! Now we have one very very active 9 year old this arvo. I like to find positives in things, at least No.3 has 2 older brothers to wear him out. Run boys run ! Yay for slow release medication, the 'spike' as it wears off is no where near as severe.

17.01.2022 One thing is for sure ADHD kids don't lack energy, persistence and motivation to see something to the end. Jack has rebuilt this whole bike himself,......and paid for it too! Good positive use of all that energy.

15.01.2022 Another part of Jacks journey. I received this message from a friend in Melbourne. Kerryn’s daughter was in the same class as Jack. ‘Good morning Luv, well my family went to the Deni Ute Muster & who should they run into...Jack. Firstly, congrats to you for raising such a fine young man. Mark, Nath & Keisha were raving about him. So this morning I found myself reading over your book to the family & talking about his journey in life....well the little I know anyway.....Yes t...he flood gates opened & tears were rolling down my cheeks. Couldn't even finish reading it without stopping. They were laughing at me cause I'm such a sook. This is why I love my job. (Kerryn is an integration aide) When someone is given opportunities in a positive way, how that can change their life. Clearly moving away from Altona Meadows, steered Jack in the right direction. More tears, sorry. Keisha said he recalled that she was one of 2 people that were nice to him at school. Good for her. If that's the positive memory he has of QoP then I am truly proud of her. Well hearing the way Jack has turned out to be such a fine young man, has boosted my energy levels to keep pushing my cherubs to be the best people they can be. I'm sure there have been many turbulant times, but something your family is doing together is clearly working. Jack also spoke of his relationship with Ian. How it changed & they are really good mates now. That's awesome. Well, that's enough tears & emotion from me. Finally, cheers to you for raising boys to be them! x Oh God more tears..... See more

06.01.2022 I'm having an interesting Mothers Day. I decided to have a relax in the bath this afternoon. I had two very determined older children trying to make no.3 (My second with ADHD) behave. I must say I was having a wee chuckle to myself hearing things like. 'Come on settle down' 'Stop!'. . . . . all several times,..............then I hear 'alright then', No.1 says to No.2,..........'let's tie him up' !!!!!!!! Perhaps I should have tried that one on Jack.

06.01.2022 Jack was awarded Electrical Pre Apprentice of the Year a few weeks ago. He can focus soooo much better these days, I suppose it helps if it is something he is interested in. He's turned 18, got his license and has a great job which will turn into an apprenticeship. We are so proud of him.

02.01.2022 Feeling very excited for Jack today, watching him walk out the door with work gear on. He's starting his work placement with a local electrician, one day a week. Bring on Year 11/VCAL for 2015 !

02.01.2022 Jack is going along fabulously. He's finished year 11 last year and just finished an Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship. I know many parents question the whole medication thing but Jack is a perfect example of someone who would not have been able to sit still long enough to learn without it. He still needs to burn the extra energy so winter is great for us,.....FOOTY !!!!! https://www.facebook.com/wendyjcoyle/posts/1182927058405323
