25.01.2022 PSA Victorians, thunderstorms bring with them thunderstorm asthma and we are in for a thunderstorm-y kinda day. Make sure you have your asthma plans in place! Why? Spring thunderstorms cause pollen grains to absorb water and burst into the world. Winds then spread them everywhere.... Petrichor? Is the ugly word for the beautiful smell that coincides with rain arriving after (usually) a dry spell. When rain hits the ground and the plants on the ground they release all sorts of chemicals that make that wonderful smell. So? Plants secret delightful scents and life threatening pollen when thunderstorms strike after a dry period. The Neighbourhood Clinic: Nature Is Amazing

19.01.2022 Great article in the Age with Osteopath Australia President Michelle Funder on what Osteopaths have been seeing during the lockdown period: "Moving from ergonomic set-ups in the workplace to a couch, bed or makeshift kitchen-table-desk has also seen a shift in injury types, with a lot more headaches." Most people will reach for painkillers, but more often than not these headaches are cervicogenic, which means they come from tight muscles and from your neck and back posture,... says Funder. We couldn't agree more here at TNC! https://todayspaper.smedia.com.au//shared/ShowArticle.aspx

18.01.2022 When are we allowed to get sniffy about COVID cases in NSW? PS check out the number of test results, Melbournians are excellent!!
18.01.2022 We did it! After 28 days free from community transmission we have officially eliminated COVID-19. One of very very very few places in the world to have achieved this after a second wave. We here at TNC have marvelled at just how bloody brilliant Victorians have been through this period. We listened to evidence and expertise. We all suffered individually to help the rest of the country. And we did it with style and spark.... Thank you!!
12.01.2022 CALL OUT FOR ZINE COLLABORATORS AND STORIES Hi all, Ruby posted this in the local Fitzroy Neighbourhood Network and it is a wonderful idea. Hi everyone! ... I am looking for work that reflect people’s personal mental health experience to include in a collaborative zine. It’s part of my final Graphic Design project in which I am developing a mental health kit. I’ve been looking into art therapy as a treatment for anxiety and depression so my intention is to use the zine as a larger art therapy experience. By involving you guys, it will not only be therapeutic for those using it, but for those creating it as well. Submissions don’t have to be explicit, and can really be in any form you wish - photographs, poems, drawings or a combination of these. The whole aim of my project is to create an honest dialogue around mental health and to share real stories and perspectives. I will be accepting submissions until the 26th of November. Please get in touch if you want more info. Additionally, if you’re not interested in creating a visual reflection, I am also looking for personal stories to include in the app component of my project. These can be about struggles you’ve had, coping mechanisms you find useful or even advice you want to pass on. The point of this is to further create an honest dialogue around mental health and to remove the stigma surrounding it. The stories will be anonymous. Thanks! Ruby Please PM me with any questions or submissions, or email [email protected]

03.01.2022 "Dr Tegnell had always insisted that his Public Health Agency had never pursued a herd immunity strategy, but he repeatedly suggested in the summer that his counterparts in Norway, Finland and Denmark would face a tougher task over the winter because of lower levels of immunity in their populations. This month, however, the number of deaths in Sweden had again begun to soar above those of its Nordic neighbours, with 630 deaths registered as a result of COVID-19. That was about 10 times the per-capita death rate of Norway, where just 30 COVID-19 deaths were registered between October 28 and November 25." Whilst we won't know what the best approach to the COVID19 situation is for a few years, medically and economically, Australia is looking pretty good right now.

02.01.2022 It's NAIDOC Week this week and the theme for the week is "Always Was, Always Will Be" It is a week that is hoping, trying, to inspire all Australians to take part and celebrate the incredible history of Indigenous Australians. People that built structures long before the Pyramids, who plotted the stars, mapped the rivers and oceans. ... And a people's whose history and knowledge have been white washed through hundreds of years of colonisation. For us here at TNC we want to share one of our favourite documents on indigenous ways of knowing. Plants. The attached booklet was made last year and it is a wonderful, easy to use reference for indigenous gardens. It also illuminates the use of the wide variety of plants that you can put in these gardens. Please enjoy https://nespurban.edu.au//2020/08/Indigenous-plant-use.pdf
02.01.2022 The Irish Foreign Minister has confirmed that Santa will be visiting this Christmas and that Santa will be able to avoid the 2 week quarantine. However the Foreign Minister was quick to point out that children should go to bed early and stay in bed so as to avoid bumping into Santa and breaching the 2m safe distance.
