With the dominance of the Murdoch media, reformation of media laws is part of our three-pronged approach (along with a Federal ICAC with teeth, and reformation of political donations), designed to clean up corruption in this country.... 19.01.2022 A sovereign government doesn’t have to raise taxes before it can invest in something. It invests first, and gets taxes back later. Take the American Revolutionary Government in 1776, fighting its war of independence against the British. They couldn’t use the British pound anymore because they were fighting against Britain. So they created their own currency the dollar. And they used it to pay for the whole war effort. And all the farmers and the soldiers and the merchants ...who were paid in US dollars, were later taxed. And what did the revolutionary government do with the taxed dollars? They threw them away. Why? Because they were not needed to pay for anything. The only reason taxes were levied was (i) to make sure everyone accepted the US dollar, which they had to do, because they had to pay tax in it; and (ii) to take money out of the economy to avoid the risk of creating too much ‘liquidity’ and therefore inflation. That is exactly the same today. The only reason governments say they have to raise taxes first before they can pay for something, is so that when the poor ask for help by way of income support or a Job Guarantee Scheme like the one we propose, the governments can say ‘sorry we can’t afford that’. But notice how they can always afford foreign wars or tax cuts for the rich
