23.01.2022 #flashbackfriday to a time before coronavirus was a thing and we could get all up in each others personal space (we do that a lot at TNS) and train with the best crew in the #scicommunity. Its #spinalcordinjuryawarenessmonth and although we cant be together we can definitely give a shout out to our #tnsathletes who continue to thrive in life, break down the barriers associated with this injury and above all things, wear a smile! @sizmen1 & @dontquitink, this ones for you! We hope youre keeping up with those gains and we cant wait to see you back where the magic happens!

21.01.2022 ATHLETE OF THE MONTH - OCTOBER! Josh Davies - What a legend! (As quoted by the man himself) It may be the signature moustache or the big grin behind it, but life’s a party when Joshy D is in the house.... During his time here at TNS Josh has been able to stand as well as maximise the duration of time in which he stands, improved power output on the FES bike and always welcomes any challenge thrown his way! Josh also commends TNS for assisting him to improve his overall health and well being! #tnsathleteofthemonth #scirecovery #quadriplegic

20.01.2022 There are only so many services we can fit under our roof here at TNS, though we are always asked for recommendations for further supports that we are unable to offer within our capacity. We have tried and tested and built relationships with many within the disability support community that we now have a list of those we love via our website, with missions we believe in and we will regularly be giving them a shout out across our platforms to ensure everyone has access to every service they need! This weeks shoutout goes to Ability Homes Australia who are changing the lives of those in need by creating fun, loving, supportive environments, that not only become a persons home, but provide a sustainable future for the disability community as a whole. Check out these legends doing great things below!
18.01.2022 We did a lot of connecting with fellow SCI support services and organisations during our lockdown period and our Founder Rhiannon Tracey caught up with the team at Spinal Research Institute to chat about some of the challenges she faces as someone living with a spinal cord injury whilst running a business. In usual Rhi form, this was an open and honest conversation addressing relatable matters associated with spinal cord injury and how she balances her work, injury and personal life.
18.01.2022 We know it might sound tough and we understand things happen outside of your control, but its what we have to do to keep business running smoothly and to ensure all of our #tnsathletes get a spot on our schedule! Please see link in our bio for full cancellation policy. Effective June 2nd, 2020.
17.01.2022 ATTENTION TNS ATHLETES: We know you have all been patiently waiting for a re-opening update, however unfortunately that is not the news we have for you all today. Unfortunately with the current restrictions in place, we are not allowed to continue treating during these stage 4 restrictions.... While the regulations are still not entirely clear around the health care sector, we have been advised that non critical clients cannot engage in exercise physiology, this frankly is CRAP! That being said we have a duty of care to keep you all healthy and safe and we will continue to do so via our Telehealth programs and 24 hour phone support. Our clinic phone is still being manned by our team and we want you to know that you can reach out to us at ANY time! We will be consistently reviewing the status of the restrictions and will keep you all posted should anything change. Meanwhile, please jump in on our weekly Zoom catch ups as we love seeing your smiling faces! Stay safe! Team TNS

Thanks legends!
14.01.2022 ATTENTION TNS ATHLETES: Regrettably yesterday we were informed that one of our athletes who last attended TNS on the 13th of July, has tested positive to COVID-19. Therefore, were following advice from DHHS and WorkSafe and have closed our facility for the week, (commencing 27/7/2020) whilst our team undergo COVID-19 testing along with further cleaning on site.... That being said, as we have implemented such strict hygiene and cleaning measures during the pandemic,as well as had our team wearing PPE gear and limiting our sessions to one client ONLY at a time, we have been advised that the risk of exposure is low, though we are taking every precaution to keep our family safe as we move forward during these difficult times. Our management team will be making further contact with all athletes once all testing results are returned but in the meantime encourage you to stay updated with all the latest health advice and recommendations as advised by relevant authorities, including undertaking COVID-19 testing should you have any mild flu-like symptoms whatsoever. Athletes, please be aware that your trainers will not be available for contact this week and all concerns or enquires should be directed to [email protected]. Kind regards TNS Managment

13.01.2022 Sore neck muscles and headaches? We got you! It is important to improve and maintain neck posture for those who are regularly in a seated position such as a wheelchair, therefor we regularly work on range of motion and quality of movement with our athletes. This helps to epilate pain associated with straining the muscles surrounding my the neck as well as improving flexibility and range of motion.... #exerciseismedicine #exercisephysiology

13.01.2022 ATTENTION LADIES with SCI: Dr. Anne Berndl is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist who focuses on pregnancy and physical disability. She has designed a survey that collects information on the experiences of women with spinal cord injuries regarding bladder, bowel, sexual health and pregnancy to address the lack of knowledge about reproductive and urogenital health in this population. This study was created with input from women with SCI and is funded by the Ontario Neurotraum...a Foundation. Lets get that data out there by taking a moment to fill out this survey! Big love ladies <3 https://questionnaire.simplesurvey.com/f/l/sci-up-survey
12.01.2022 The #TEAMTNS trainers are definitely feeling the but after a big few day of challenges. Our bodies might be sore but it is all for a good cause, so keep those challenges coming! 11.01.2022 STAGE 4 RESTRICTIONS UPDATE: Unfortunately there has been no clear indication from the announcements over the past couple of days as to where we stand with re-opening our facility, though we understand that this is just a temporary situation and our questions will be answered in due course. To keep you all in the loop, while Allied Health Care is allowed to continue, there has still been no clear clarification directed towards Exercise Physiology and how or what capacity we ...can practice in. We are patiently waiting for further updates from ESSA (our accredited association) and will be sure to shares those updates as they come through in the hopes we can re-open as soon as possible. In the meantime we ask that you keep your eye on our socials as immediate updates will be posted there, and you answer when you get a private number calling you as your trainers will be calling you over the next couple of days to check in! We hope to see you all very soon! - TEAM TNS

10.01.2022 We are so much more then just a recovery and wellness centre, we are your team mates, your hype girls, your wing mans and your coaches. We are a family! If the world wide events of late have taught us anything, it has been how important it is to lean on your people. While there was, and still is fear in the world, we never once worried that we wouldnt be able to pull through some of the hard yards that came with being a small business as weve already triumphed over some pre...tty huge challenges to even exist. Being a small and inclusive facility we have been able to use this time to really hear what our athletes have needed and what extra support we could provide. The foundation of our facility came from turning a negative experience into a positive outcome and its one that continues to shine throughout our athletes and our wonderful team. Because of the pause the pandemic gave us, we have been able to develop new programs that include Telehealth consults as well as home visits, and it wont stop there! Our core values at The Next Step SCI Recovery Centre are mindset, movement & momentum and we are here to help you not just live, but to feel ALIVE #spinalcordinjuryrecovery #sci #thenextstepsci
10.01.2022 ATTENTION TNS ATHLETES! The summer weather is upon us and we want to ensure that we keep you safe while training with us within the facility during these hot da...ys. Should you wish to reschedule your sessions due to forecasted extreme heat, we kindly ask that you give us the required 24 hours notice noted in our cancellation policy. Many thanks! -Team TNS
09.01.2022 Its #worldcontinenceweek and given incontinence is one of the issues many, if not all of our athletes live with on a daily basis, we thought wed share some of our many natural tips for a healthy bladder and urinary tract! #tnsbladderhack - Using D-Mannose & Cranberry helps promote a healthy urinary tract. E. coli bacteria cause 90 percent of UTIs. Once these bacteria enter the urinary tract, they latch on to cells, grow, and cause infection. Rese...archers think that D-mannose might work to treat or prevent a UTI by stopping these bacteria from latching on. After you consume foods or supplements containing D-mannose, your body eventually eliminates it through the kidneys and into the urinary tract. While in the urinary tract, it can attach to the E. coli bacteria that may be there. As a result, the bacteria can no longer attach to cells and cause infection. What the science says: There isnt much research on the effects of D-mannose when taken by people who have UTIs, but a few early studies show that it might help. A 2013 study evaluated D-mannose in 308 women who had frequent UTIs. D-mannose worked about as well as the antibiotic nitrofurantoin for preventing UTIs over a 6-month period. In a 2014 study, D-mannose was compared to the antibiotic trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole for treatment and prevention of frequent UTIs in 60 women. D-mannose reduced UTI symptoms in women with an active infection. It was also more effective than the antibiotic for preventing additional infections. A 2016 study tested the effects of D-mannose in 43 women with an active UTI. At the end of the study, most women had improved symptoms. If you are experiencing any of the issues above or ongoing continence issues we urge you to get in touch with us so we can get you chatting to our Continence Nurse or Naturopath. We are here to support and educate you towards a happy and healthy lifestyle! Please note: D- Mannose & Cranberry supplements are now available at @thenextstepscirecovery. Ref/Source @healthline
09.01.2022 ATT TNS ATHLETES!! Due to the extreme temperature due to have us sweltering on Monday 11/1/2021, we will be closing at 1pm! If you have a scheduled session with us and haven't chatted to us regarding rescheduling it, check your voicemails and call us back as chances are, if you turn up after 1pm we'll be at the beach or sitting under an air conditioning unit somewhere.... You're welcome :) Team TNS
07.01.2022 LOCKDOWN 2.0 UPDATE: WE ARENT GOING ANYWHERE - We are ESSENTIAL! Good news folks, further to yesterdays announcements our team will be staying put! That being said we are again amping up all health and safety measures and further limiting our numbers within our facility. From Thursday (9th of July), moving forward until further updates, we will be working at a 2-1 capacity (2 trainers, 1 athlete) ONLY!... Our doors will be locked between athletes and only those with appointments will be welcomed into the facility. Absolutely no carers or family members will be permitted on the gym floor unless they are required to assist with transfers or personal care, and will be asked to wait upstairs in our wellness space. While we do understand this may limit the number of sessions our athletes can access, we will be extending our hours as well as our continued focus on home visits and Telehealth programs. All attending athletes will receive a letter of Confirmation of Essential Services in which they can have on hand should it be required by government officials. Again we encourage any athletes who do not feel comfortable training within the facility to get in touch so we can modify your programs to continue that consistency! We are all in this together
07.01.2022 #TNSTRAINERTIPS: Think of exercise as an opportunity, not an inconvenience! Exercise is a natural and effective anti-anxiety treatment. It relieves tension and stress, boosts physical and mental energy, and enhances well-being through the release of endorphins. Anything that gets you moving can help, but youll get a bigger benefit if you pay attention instead of zoning out. Try to notice the different sensations throughout your body as it moves, for example, or the rhythm of... your breathing, or the feeling of the wind on your skin. By adding this mindfulness elementreally focusing on your body and how it feels as you exercise; youll not only improve your physical condition faster, but you may also be able to interrupt the flow of constant worries running through your head! #exerciseismedicine #trainertips
