25.01.2022 Sharing our trials and tribulations of the edible gardening adventures. I feel like nothing is happening, and lots is happening at the same time. Its all part of the journey I guess. We have bitten off a bit more than we can chew at the moment, starting lots of new projects when we thought a lockdown was imminent, only to find we have less time than ever. I cant wait to have my thriving vege garden back, but we need to go backwards before we go forwards I think.

25.01.2022 3 cleaning spots this week if anyone would like to take advantage... One of our lovely Friday regulars is on holiday this fortnight, so we are offering a spring clean on that day if anyone needs Also a monthly (4 weekly spot) is available to start this Wednesday, or a fortnightly spot this Tuesday.... PM ASAP for pricelist and info

24.01.2022 I absolutely love the cooler temps, and the opportunity to rug up warm. One thing that's great to do, when those chills seem to be hanging around, is to use some warming oils. It's amazing how a few drops of diluted essential oil can provide so much extra warmth. I like to make up these blends in a small bowl when those chills are there. A roller bottle just doesn't cut it when you want to cover a larger area. For me, it's my lower back kidney area, and my feet that feel ...it, so the Circulation Support and Extremity Feels are my favourites to use on these areas. Apart from obvious no no areas (eyes, inside ears and on sensitive bits), you can rub these oils wherever you need. Feet, back of neck, knees, elbows, back, spine, wrists and over chest area are great ideas. Wherever you need it really, and in a few minutes, I promise you will feel those chills warming from the outside in.

24.01.2022 Who awoke to the gorgeous frost in Mandurah this morning!? Lots more frosts please, to make our sweet peas sweeter and the winter greens tastier

23.01.2022 Loving seeing everyones posts lately, full of yummy creative cooking and heaps of natures offerings. Me... Im rediscovering fresh herbs like rosemary and thyme. Im terrible at growing them and forgetting to add them to literally everything. A wise person told me this week... Kym, you can never add too much rosemary and thyme What are your favourite in season vegetables to cook with right now? Did you take any photos of your yummy creations to share?

21.01.2022 I just want to say a big excited Welcome to all the new followers this week . So glad to have you here with us, and I cant wait to delve into some good healthy tox free living with you all . Theres never been a more important time (than now) to focus on our natural health. It is, however, important to recognise that that means something a little different to everyone. Its a constant continuum as to where we are at, and where we want to get to. I wanted to share a l...ittle about what it means to me, and Id love to know what resonates with you, and what else you would add in here... To me it is all about the food, first and foremost. I want to be able to source the best organic produce and the most sustainable meat products for my family. Thats the goal. In reality, my vege garden is a constant learning curve, our familys meat budget has budget constraints and we arent there yet. I still consume more than I need of the wrong things, and its a constant journey to change old habits. Im enjoying the journey though, and love listening to my body, which is very good at letting me know Im if Im on track. Secondly, its about removing as many toxins from our lives as possible. Anything that goes on our skin, anything we clean with, anything we use in the garden, etc etc. Theres so much variety and choice with tox free products these days, and loads of companies taking the time to disclose their ingredients so we can check them out . In reality though, yip, its another journey, and we can only do our best. Our bodies are pretty good at detoxing, so reducing the toxic load on them is a massive help. Thirdly, it means using high quality essential oils to keep my family healthy. Theres pretty much an oil for everything, and by chosing these as a first defence, every time, we are not needing pharmaceutical intervention, something that means a lot to me. Our tox free cleaning team are doing really great, and we love helping our Mandurah families and being part of their tox free journey . Welcome again, whether you are here to share and receive inspo, to suss us out to potentially hand over your house cleaning to us, or to come and join our cleaning team, we are happy that you are here

21.01.2022 We just had the biggest weekend yet in our lil vege garden. 12 cubic metres of organic vege concentrate and 6 cubic metres of eucalyptus mulch from Green Life Soils, has been added into our vege patch. All veges and herbs from now on can be grown completely organically (without certification). This is hopefully the next Nourished project as we learn how to grow as much food as we possibly can. Looking forward to lots of mistakes and learning outcomes as we go along. Greatful already for nice stormy weather this afternoon, to bring along life sustaining rain. Cant wait to get planting! Garden is now way too tidy and empty. Needs lots of random veges, herbs and bee loving flowers everywhere

20.01.2022 Who’s got flies all over their mango flowers right now? We have.

20.01.2022 All the feels as the good bugs are starting to arrive in the patch I love planting, love weeding, love harvesting. But pest control, no time for that. Glad to farm out that job to these guys

20.01.2022 Happy Friday Well its mostly gardening on my feed these days, as Im a little garden obsessed. Love this gorgeous bonfire grevillea which is keeping lots of bees pretty happy at our place right now. I havent shared much about our cleaning lately. For those that dont know, toxin free cleaning in Mandurah and surrounds is my little business. Weve been keeping a low profile on that lately, as we are fully booked most of the time. But these past few weeks we have entere...d a growth phase, and are looking forward to opening up some availability to those who have been waiting a while. We have two new tox free cleaners, which is pretty exciting. Sam has just finished her second week of training, and Jess has just completed her first week. We dont clean like a normal cleaning business, so theres lots to learn. First week training, its all about the vacuuming... as busy Mums, Cleaning our own house, we rip that vacuum around with such efficiency and prowess, but we never have time for that thorough vacuum and scrub. If we hired a cleaner who had the same ethics in our own house, we may as well bloody do it ourselves . So thats why the first week is all about the vacuuming. Those cleaning with us are bought back to the mindset of taking the time, perfecting the art of vacuuming. A well vacuumed house, you can literally feel when you walk in the door. Did you know, when we take on new regular cleans... your initial clean is a massive spring clean at no extra cost. Im talking one of us for up to 3 hours on the vacuum, whilst the other is scrubbing shower grout and perfecting bathrooms and kitchen areas. Why do we put so much effort into those first cleans? Because it benefits both you and us to have it all under control straight away. Next time we clean there, it takes a little less time, and next time, a little less. But from then on, you never have to do anything more than that quick vac whip around when visitors call. You never need to feel the ball and chain of cleaning overwhelmness again! If you would like to have a copy of our tox free cleaning info and pricelist, we would love to send it through. Anyone keen joins our waitlist with their favourite cleaning day in mind, and we work towards availability for you as soon as we can

20.01.2022 @greenlifesoil for the win! Cant recommend these guys enough. This is just the difference in our rhubarb growth in just 4 days https://www.facebook.com/GreenLifeSoilCo/

19.01.2022 The yearly stock-up on spices from the bestest spice shop in WA! Has anyone discovered this little gem in our Southwest? Seven Seas Tea in Cowaramup. Chai latte spice mix too, which the kids have already stolen for supper, and Mulled Wine mix, which Tim has already stolen to read the ingredients list ... These guys are online now and deliver throughout WA. I normally just save up my list and stock up when we are travelling through cow-town. Their awesome spices are Mostly organic, but not possible for all sourcings. Last but not least, bonus reason for buying from these guys.... they are more than just a lot passionate about the spices they sell. Give them a go and let me know if you do

19.01.2022 They say tox free gardening is like an extreme sport They can have my cabbages but they’ve just found the kale too, so now it’s getting personal What’s everyone’s tox free ways of dealing with these dudes? Pray for the good bugs to take over? Derris dust? Little pretend white butterfly decoys?

18.01.2022 Hi everyone, we are so grateful for all the shares, recommendations and bookings. We find ourselves fully booked again, and any new enquiries are able to join our waitlist. We are an awesome team of 4, and are actually needing to hire another, but I think we will just lay low and support our regulars over the next few weeks, and then look to hire and train again once my bank balance has recovered (training is expensive ).

18.01.2022 Little quiz tonight What am I? 18.01.2022 Bean births happening right now Might be still a little cold for beans, but I want to try everything and research what happens when I grow things too early/late in the season. I used to follow an App called Gardenate. And I kind of still do, but not to a T. I used to Plant everything it said for April, May, etc. But then I see on Facebook posts that other gardeners are growing stuff that shouldnt be planted for months. Ive come to the conclusion that when you are a rebel gardener and dont follow the rules, you come home to beans (and most likely a few disappointments too). But also beans

18.01.2022 Sharing this little hack which will hopefully make the job of seed ordering (and planting days) even more fun! No more sorting through paper packets, opening each up to check if enough seeds. No more trying to work out if I have a diverse enough range for the season. Planning is now a bit easier, so hopefully when I get to spend a day playing in the garden, things are more productive. The storage containers are craft boxes from Spotlight. Ive tried to keep the seeds boxe...d together in groups (alliums, salad greens and flowers for the bees, Asian greens, brassicas, pumpkins melons etc). Happy gardening yaall If you have any cool gardening hacks that have made a big difference for you, please share them here Kym xx

17.01.2022 Things are progressing quickly and there is already food to harvest . Pretty impressed considering its been in just on a month since the whole garden was planted. Companion planting of herbs, veges and flowers together is working a treat! Last night we had a little silverbeet and rainbow chard, and the day before, we had enough baby spinach for a meal. These herbs are joining some roasted veges to make a healing broth for soup bases. ... The peppercorns and celery leaves are from good old Coles, but working on having heaps of celery for juicing and broths in the near future.

17.01.2022 Life is about to throw us some lemonade

16.01.2022 Some great alternatives here to easily avoid the (un-natural) alternative. What do you consider alternative these days, when it comes to chosing a product to neutralise natural body odour?

14.01.2022 Tox free microwave cleaning Lemon is your friend! Wipe the walls down with a natural soap solution first (we use dTERRAs cleaner concentrate).... Or Pop some fresh lemon wedges in a cup of hot water and microwave for 5 minutes to degrease and make it all smell amazing and fresh Then a few drops of lemon essential oil on a paper towel and wipe it around the inside walls and glass tray. No more curry smells, just fresh and clean Note... I recommend being super careful with essential oils for cleaning. We love them and use them A LOT. But they are super powerful and can break down some plastics and burn holes in benchtops . So no wiping the plastic door on your microwave with the lemon oil, and be super careful not to get any drops on benchtops.

13.01.2022 If you are an awesome cleaner, if you love the idea of using toxin free products, if you are friendly and service oriented, we would love you to consider joining our friendly cleaning team! We only relaunched as a team on 1st of July, and already we are fully booked. So cleaners are needed ASAP! Full training provided.... All cleaning equipment and cleaning products provided. All cleaning cloths laundered for you. Wages paid weekly. Must be able to work school holidays. For more info, email Kym at [email protected]

13.01.2022 Not sure I want to get too close to our new banana flower! Looks like the man eating plant from Little Shop of Horrors .

11.01.2022 I’m a little excited! So much availability coming very soon! Just in time for Christmas season This week we are opening up 2 new spots. One has been taken already, but we still have a fortnightly spot starting this Thursday 29th October. ... PM or email us if you would like to come home this Thursday night to a fresh, clean, tidy and tox free home

07.01.2022 Found this in my newsfeed this morning. Its rather long, but well worth the read. My pennys worth, I struggle with what natural, nourishing stuff to share on my page because of what this article discusses. People put up their own walls in their kingdom and some can be downright bullying and angry if your views dont conform to theirs. No need for it really. Everyones views should form part of everyone elses research into forming their own views.

07.01.2022 So Ive struggled for a while to find a really good quality, good fat mayo that doesnt split as soon as I leave the shop. Ive tried making my own, but it tastes good for a day, then goes downhill. Then I found this one a few weeks ago (at that cool chemist on Lakes Road Mandurah which has the wholefoods section). It is seriously yummy, mix it into coleslaw, or dollop on salads or even yummy on cooked veges and meats. I love that it uses olive oil as its good fat, instead... of the majority opting for unstable sunflower oils. Im putting this back on next weeks shopping list as its now completely gone

07.01.2022 Happy World Microbiome day! Those that know me, know Im pretty obsessed with the microbiome, or, our gut bugs Feeding, diversifying and looking after our gut bugs, is, I believe, the main key to a long, healthy life.... Kids love it when they learn about the little pets inside them, and how important it is to make food choices that feed our gut bugs, not always just thinking of our taste buds. Once we are on the right track with feeding and diversifying our microbiome, we are in a much better position to fight any germs that come our way. And, more often than not, as our microbiome fights these germs, it gets stronger each time. And that is how we strengthen our immune system. Feed it well, look after it, then go out in the world and let it do its thing The next step is to make sure we are not undoing all our good work by killing off our microbiome again. And this is where we think we fit in, as the NHW tox free cleaning team. So many cleaning products are super toxic to our microbiome, and spraying some of them to kill germs is effectively like killing off a whole army of good guys in our microbiome, just to find the bad guy which our strong microbiome was about to get under control for us anyway. Its like killing off 10,000 bacteria, and only one of them was bad. All our cleaning products are gut friendly and toxin free. Powered by plant extracts such as lemon, wild orange, rosemary, clove, eucalyptus, lemongrass, peppermint, lime and patchouli, in a base of natural soap. Edible products such as baking soda, citric acid, vinegar and coconut oil are choices of ours for cleaning too. On a finishing note, because Im a little controversial these days , wouldnt it be great, on microbiome day, if the world health organisations financiers pledge 400 million dollars towards health measures, research and education to protect, feed and diversify our microbiome. Now that would be awesome

06.01.2022 Our Lilly Pillys are fruiting, which gives us a small window of opportunity to make everything possible with these yummy native berries before the birds steal them all. These Lilly Pilly muffins were a real treat. I ended up adapting Donna Hays online blueberry muffin recipe, and experimented with a few drops each of Lemon Myrtle and Star Anise food grade essential oils. Thumbs up for a great taste We also had fun following a River Cottage Australia recipe for Lilly Pi...lly champagne. I have never tried wine making before, and its literally just mixed together and fermenting in a bucket. Hopefully we have something drinkable to bottle in a week or so Have you got any other yummy ideas for using these delicious berries? Theres the obvious sauces, jams and chutneys, but we are not big S, J and C eaters. Im thinking theyd look great in a salad, or maybe add to a banana smoothie?

05.01.2022 Yummy gut friendly lunchbox ideas

04.01.2022 Herbs are the garden winner right now, and I have to admit that I dont use herbs enough in cooking. But I want to change that. Tonight we discovered the awesome flavours of Chimmichurri. Its basically 3 handfuls of herbs (any herbs that you have growing), 100ml of apple cider vinegar, a few cloves of garlic, and 150ml of good quality oil. Make it even better by adding in some fresh chilli or ginger or jelapeno .... Enough to make a simple salad or a simple cut of meat into something with flavour and nutrient superpower .

03.01.2022 Haha! So many reasons why cobwebs are awesome, and this is one of them Whilst we are the best cobweb removers, I do have some good news for those that are embarrassed about the amount of cobwebs inside their home...... Don’t be embarrassed. Cobwebs are a great indicator that you are creating a nice toxin free living space inside your home. The spiders wouldn’t want to visit otherwise, and certainly wouldn’t stick around to build a web

02.01.2022 We have a rare FRIDAY cleaning spot available! A fortnightly, toxin free cleaning spot, starting this coming Friday 11th September So this Friday, you get a massive 10 hour spring clean (at no extra charge), then 4 hours every second Friday to maintain your house cleaning at a high standard for you ... This spot wont last long! Message or email us ASAP for prices and info, and to book this spot https://thenourishedhousewife.com.au/11-reasons-why-having/

02.01.2022 Well my homemade Lilly Pilly champagne was a bit of a fail. Not fizzy at all . Taste is okay, but more like Lilly Pilly cordial. Wont try that one again. Tims and Ursulas homemade creation was very good! Tim made pies using rhubarb from the garden, and Urs made chocolate using Fennel essential oil Frank has made chocolate mousse for tonight. He learnt that the bowl has to be super clean for whipping egg whites, or they split and ruin. We ended up folding coconut m...ilk through instead, because I wasnt willing to waste another 4 eggs. Hope it sets okay. Love that the whole family is experimenting with cooking at the moment. Hope it continues.

02.01.2022 Sometimes the bugs are not the biggest problem. I am learning to care less for a bit of bug damage on my veges, and to care way more about whats potentially being sprayed to keep the bugs off. Im learning to attract beneficial insects to my garden, to help control those annoying caterpillars and aphids. The balance is coming and its pretty cool to see. Yesterday, aphids all over my new sweet corn seedlings. Today, the ladybirds have arrived to control them for me

01.01.2022 Whoa!!! This is next level. Who thinks they need some labels from this local Mandurah business

01.01.2022 Spray free strawwwbs Picture for attention really... 2 strawberries to feed a family of 4... we are grateful What I’m most excited about today is that we are doing an initial clean for a lovely lady who is (her words) quite obsessed with Domestos. I am excited that she is open to trying our tox free way of cleaning, and can’t wait to show her what we can do ... Instead of spraying germs with intent to kill, we clean by removing the food sources for germs, so they can’t survive on our fresh smelling, cleaned surfaces. The media has a lot to answer for in their spreading of fear of germs. Think ‘Louie the fly’, and that image of the Mum wiping raw chicken over her benchtop . As a nation, we are harming our health in attempts to kill germs with toxic cleaning products. But it is super easy to clean tox free and well, umm, the germs just don’t hang out when we have removed their food source Hope our lovely new customer is happy this afternoon We are fully booked up this week. If you are wanting to start fortnightly cleans before Christmas, our next available spots are Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th Nov

01.01.2022 My globe artichokes must be loving these spring temps and conditions. I feel like the plants are doubling in size daily at the moment. Theres a few dotted around the garden, and Im looking forward to letting some flower for the bees, but more than anything, Im hoping to catch the actual artichokes at the right time for eating. Too late and they are fibrous and woody. Anyone else growing these monsters of vege plants? Any tips for me? Ive heard the artichokes are super tasty cooked in fresh butter, garlic and salt
