09.01.2022 Same, Same But Different! These two terms often get bantered about interchangeably (myself included) and I get that it can be confusing. Expenses and deductions are linked but they aren't always the same.... An expense is a cost you will incur when you run your nutrition business like bank fees, website costs etc. Deductions are costs that you have incurred in running your business which can be offset against your income for tax purposes (i.e. reducing the tax you need to pay). The difference being that while you might incur expenses in your business, not all of these costs will be consider deductions and cannot be offset against your business income. That's why its important to speak to your tax accountant about which expenses you incur in your business that are not considered tax deductions so that you avoid overspending on things that won't reduce your taxes at end of the year. eg.
