A little information for when you are buying ... no matter who you are getting your firewood from never be afraid to ask questions and know you are getting the best there is to buy. Dry seasoned Ironbark & Western Box would be some of the best burning timbers that you could buy. Unlike most other typ...es of timber, Ironbark & Box emit very little smoke and do not cause major allergy problems. Both Ironbark and Box are very hot, slow burning timbers, and for every piece of Ironbark or Box Firewood that you burn you would burn two or three pieces of other local types of timber for the same heat output. Remember, always burn seasoned, aged timber. If you are burning timber you have cut yourself then please remember it doesn't matter what you are burning .. just make sure it is well seasoned before putting it in your heater or open fire. Green timber can be up to 70% less heat efficient, as well as creating problems within your firebox or grate and green timber can also gum up your chimney or flue. Never under any circumstances burn treated timber in your wood stoves or open fireplaces. Never burn timber with paint or oil on it as this will emit toxins into your house and also the air outside. Contaminated firewood can make you extremely sick. If in doubt if you should burn it .. leave it alone. Always make sure your timber is well seasoned. In the case of Ironbark, if it hasn't been dead at least 25 years than it is not seasoned. It has to be dead a minimum of 25 years, but the older it is the better burning quality it will give. Timber is a naturally absorbent material, so if it is possible keep it in a shed/carport or cover it with an old tarp or a piece of plastic. http://www.brisbanefirewood.com

07.01.2022 I know it might not feel like it yet but with Winter almost upon us once again and a little reminder to make sure the important things are ready. Make sure your heater is in peak performance mode and also see if your chimney / flue needs cleaning before lighting the heater. Chimneys get dirty and lined with soot, ash and creosote over time. If you are burning green timber or inferior timbers creosote can line the chimney / flue. Even when you are burning quality seasoned ti...mber you will still need to have your chimney/flue cleaned at least once every 2 years. As this buildup of soot & gum from the sap/creosote grows, the efficiency of your chimney declines and then in turn can become a fire hazard. These are some photos of exceptionally bad chimney buildup. The first photo is the outside Flue/Chimney of the Fireplace. If you can see buildup like this on the outside you will know it is a dangerous situation and your chimney / flue needs to be cleaned before you start lighting any more fires. Climb up and have a look or hire someone who knows what they are doing to have a good look at your roof and chimney. Make sure your chimney does not get clogged like these pictures and call a Chimney Sweep so they can maintain your chimney and keep it in an optimum condition. You would never want to be in the position of having to try and salvage what is left after a fire in your roof because you were lax in attending to such a simple precaution like getting your chimney cleaned. The second picture is what has fallen down the flue/chimney when it is being cleaned .. that is an awful lot of soot/creosote buildup from one small fireplace. A clean chimney means you are safe in the knowledge that you can light your fire and enjoy the warmth and ambience without having to worry about whether your chimney/flue should have been cleaned before winter started.
