25.01.2022 Tiny nugget find of the week! Can you spot them? (Hint: zoom in for a better look!)... Past experience with coin & treasure detectors gave this first time visitor to Clermont the edge in understanding detecting technique (coil control, pinpointing and target retrieval) and the technology built into the Minelab Metal Detectors Equinox range. Using his EQX800 with 11'coil and detecting in Flat Diggings GPA, he reckons he's panned bigger gold, but given it's his first crack on the Clermont goldfields, it's a very impressive effort! 24.01.2022 A Tale of Tortured Treasures...Clermont's Big Beautiful Black Gold When brothers Blake Wanty and Luke Wanty first met JP almost 5 years ago, they were keen to learn and primed to earn their Minelab stripes under the guidance of one of the best in the business. With the benefit of a tailored training session with JP to #gaintheskills to #getthegold with their two Minelab Metal Detectors GPZ 7000s, the lads have had some pretty good success both at home in NSW and out in the CQ... Goldfields around Clermont. Fast forward to 2020 and a break from work in the region saw them take a short trip to Clermont back to a well-known local GPA. This field has some signature gold attributes and it wasn't long before the first of a handful of chunky nuggets were wrested from their earthly tombs. And then it was on...kicking off the tally with a dense almost four ounce lump, two 20 grammers plus a few from 5-6 grams. Black gold, ugly as hell, but good, solid Clermont nuggets. Honestly, these things looked like they'd been through the Black Gate of Mordor, passed through the Eye of Sauron...and survived to tell the tale. Ancient, tortured and darkly beautiful...the black nuggets of McMasters Fossicking Area, geological treasures holding secrets of volcanoes, earthquakes and glacial torment, brought to the light of day through the wonders of modern technology. An amazing experience for any prospector and these two brothers were able to share the moment of Blake's biggest ever nugget find! The reality is either LNP or ALP will form either a majority or minority government, more than likely with support from cross-benchers. With ALP Mines Minister Lynham resigning, we have no clear idea who an ALP Mines Minister might be.... But this bloke below may just be the next QLD Mines Minister. He is our local MP and has always taken the time to listen to our concerns about recreational prospecting, made representations in Parliament on our behalf, written letters to Minister Lynham on big issues such as the Moorlands coal project impact on McMasters GPA in Clermont, and has given his commitment to review the legislation around prospecting and fossicking in State Forest, should LNP win office. 19.01.2022 WANTED!! Clermont prospectors to post or PM koala pics and info on sightings in and around McMasters GPA. With a formal koala survey due to take place next week in relation to the proposed Moorlands coal project haul road through the Blair Athol State Forest, any pics, GPS location data and reports on the presence of koalas in this area would greatly assist the koala scientist undertaking the survey on behalf of the company.... Prof Ellis has met prospectors before out in the Forest as part of the Rio Tinto / UQ Koala Venture project that monitored koalas for 20 years in the surrounding areas (noting that prospectors and koalas all seemed to get along quite OK) so if you see a fellow wandering about in the GPA without a detector, he's not lost, he's looking for koalas! As it's breeding season, please spend a bit of time looking up and keep your ears and eyes peeled for Blinky and his mates. Given what's at stake for the future of this GPA, finding a koala could be the most important thing you discover this week.

He told me the most valuable possession a Queenslander could have was a QLD Miners Right, even more than the $10,000 worth of Clermont nuggets sitting there on the table outside the Grand Hotel Motel Clermont, while he reminisced about political history and his early days out prospecting around Mt Isa. ... But as we know Queensland Labor stole away our QLD Miners Right and today, we no longer have right of access to Crown land, like Bob did in his younger days. As we talked about the erosion of rights and loss of opportunity this State government has inflicted on everyday Queenslanders, he kept picking up JP's 2oz nugget for photo ops with young locals, who'd come to share a few drinks with this largest of political legends. No doubt Bob has done alright for himself over the years through hard work and shrewd business and political deals, but what's intriguing is that basic human fascination with natural gold nuggets, those little cosmic golden treasures, that have created and crumbled grand civilisations over millennia. 05.01.2022 Minor news item of the day...see attached pic. Blair Athol State Forest (public land), near Clermont. 'Brigalow' grazing lease gate 'LOCKED'.... Proposed Brigalow General Permission Area (GPA) since 2006. $$$ thousands of taxpayer dollars spent on tracks, fence, gates and signs but 14 years on...still no GPA. Prospectors still 'locked out'. Not mountain bike riders though :) And even the local QPWS Ranger in Charge has no key. Maybe call 07 4983 1211 and ask why the public is locked out of State Forest?
