25.01.2022 A client of ours recently asked us for a computer to replace their current reception PC. However it had to be small, as the reception desk doesn't have much room on or around it. So we got them this little beauty, the Lenovo E72 Tiny. It's a complete PC in the tiniest of packages! If you think a product like this could help solve your space issues, give us a call on 1800 THE OWL and we'll happily provide you with some advice.

22.01.2022 Are you still relying on trusty old Windows XP? You probably shouldn't be as Microsoft's April 8th end-of-life deadline approaches. Contact us at The Owl IT for more information to to begin scheduling an upgrade to Windows 7 or 8. Call 1800 THE OWL and we'll be happy to help you with this issue. The below article covers a lot of the reason for changing, mostly the potential green light hackers are going to be given to break into Windows XP.... http://www.smh.com.au//doomsday-approaches-for-windows-xp-

18.01.2022 The Tuesday Tip: Need an easy way to find out which files and folders on your computer are eating up your storage space? TreeSize Free (Yes, it's free!) is a great little tool used by many IT professionals to quickly find where a computers storage space (HDD/SSD/External Drive, etc) has gone missing.... We've tested the latest installation file for you to make sure that it's safe for installation (there's plenty of free software out there loaded with malware garbage). You can download it at the following link: https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/ Enjoy! :)

16.01.2022 The Owl IT wishes everybody a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe new year. We hope your holidays are a real hoot! ;-)

16.01.2022 250,000 people have signed this petition so far. Keep it firing, keep Mr Turnbull's attention. Don't let it just go away.

16.01.2022 The Owl IT is 100% behind this push. Let's make sure our new government hears us loud and clear.

15.01.2022 Of course, we're all shocked. http://www.news.com.au//n/f08d9845d708bdaa0556ddc3e7251f6f

13.01.2022 Bitstrips getting up your skin? You can block them pretty easily. :-) Go to Settings -> Blocking -> Block Apps -> Then type in "bitstrips" and the option should come up automatically. Select it and you're done. (Y)

08.01.2022 At long last we've found a Bluetooth headset that has excellent incoming audio quality as well as outgoing audio quality. Our clients are responding that they hear us speak crisply and clearly, and we can hear them perfectly. It also has the added bonus of working perfectly with Siri on an iPhone (we're using the iPhone 4s). It's a touch pricier than an average Bluetooth headset (going for a RRP of $199 AUD), but if you're a business user and absolutely need to have excellent... call clarity, this is definitely for you. We have no affiliation with Bose, we just thought it was an awesome product and felt we should share it with you all. :-) You can read up on it here at the Apple store: http://store.apple.com//bose-bluetooth-headset-series-ii-r

06.01.2022 The Wednesday Tip: Did you know that you can print to ANY printer from a mobile device such as an iPhone or iPad through Google Chrome? All you need is Chrome installed on your computer and your mobile device and have a Google account! To enable this feature, first open Chrome on your computer and click the Settings button, and then click Settings.... Once inside the Settings tab, click Show Advanced Settings at the bottom and scroll down to Google Cloud Print. Once there, click Add Printers, and then click Add Printers on the confirmation window once more. Once done, this will add the printers you have connected to your computer to your Google account. Now if you're surfing the web in Google Chrome on your mobile device, you can click Print under the settings button and select Google Cloud Print. Now the printers you have installed on your computer should appear in the list. Select one of the printers and then click print. Google Chrome will send your print job via the Internet to your computer, which will then be printers out through your printer. And the best bit is that you can printer from anywhere to that computer as long as it's on and you have an Internet connection. This is one of the many features we highly recommend Google Chrome for to our clients. We hope you find it useful. :-)

05.01.2022 The Wednesday Tip: Does it bug you that the Delete Confirmation window pops up every time you want to delete a file in Windows? Turn it off and have your files deleted straight away if you like. Simply Right-Click on the Recycle Bin on your desktop, and then click Properties.... In the Recycle Bin Properties window, you will see a checkbox next to Display Delete Confirmation Dialog. Simply uncheck it and click Apply. Now when you delete a file, it will go straight to the Recycle Bin without the pop-up window.

04.01.2022 The Tuesday Tip: Hey, we're back on schedule! Have you ever accidentally increased the size of your desktop icons in Windows? Did it drive you crazy trying to get them back to normal size?... If you hold down the CTRL key while scrolling your mouse wheel up or down, it will either increase or decrease the size of your desktop icons. This also works inside an Explorer window when looking at pictures, and will allow you to increase or decrease the size of the preview thumbnail. The same rule applies in your Internet browser. Go on, try it now! It's a handy tip if you know it, and it will drive you nuts if you didn't. We find this happens most often on laptops. The CTRL key and mousepad aren't far from each other and the scrolling strip on the mousepad can easily be activated when you're accidentally holding down the CTRL button while leaning on your laptop.
