14.01.2022 At Slow Food Hunter Valley we have been on the lookout for wonderful community garden events! It is a great way to learn, meet like minded people and grow your ...own food with locals. Community gardens are a great way to be more aware of green living, and provide an opportunity to get involved with the local community through gardening. There are many established gardens throughout the Hunter to volunteer with. If you are part of a community garden with a working bee, meet up or event then please send us a message as would love to hear from you! Every Tuesday 9:30AM - 1:30PM :: A community of gardeners at Largs - all are welcome! Come garden on a big veggie garden on a small farm overlooking the flood plain between Largs and Morpeth. There is plenty of water and new gardeners and ideas are very welcome. Take a little plot to grow your special crop or join others in the general garden. Develop your passion (think seeds, cooking, unusual crops) and there is plenty of room to try out ideas like poultry, fruit trees, etc. Venue: Largs Cost: FREE. Bring lunch to share. (registrations are essential - contact Evelyn on 0419492016) Every Wednesday 9:30AM - 12:30PM :: Medowie Community Gardens - all are welcome! Venue: 6 Waropara Road Medowie, within the Medowie Baptist Church grounds, behind the Church building. Cost: FREE Every Saturday 8AM - 10AM :: Merewether Community Garden - bring a mug for your cuppa. Wear tough leather gloves, long sleeves and pants, hat and covered footwear. Venue: 20 Albert Street, Newcastle Cost: FREE If you are on the look out for more events relating to growing your own food, cooking and living sustainably, please take a look at our regular Friday What's On post at: https://www.facebook.com/SlowFoodHunterValley/posts/3249657428453776 As events are continually being updated due to new guidelines introduced to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, we strongly recommend you check the event is still open by checking the Facebook page listed or contacting the venue directly before attending. IMPORTANT: If you are unwell, have been in contact with someone with COVID-19, or have returned from overseas travel or Victoria in the last 14 days then you MUST stay at home. We all need to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus as much as we can Strict social distancing rules are still in place and please be mindful of these. Merewether Community Garden
