25.01.2022 Rain rain go away, come again another day. We have had rain all week but today is particularly miserable and its cold. Ive actually put the heater on which I dont normally feel the need to do during the day. Why did I not bring wood into the house this morning? I could be sitting in front of the fire... #thepaisleyhummingbird #winterishere #rainydays

23.01.2022 This is about all I have enough focus for at the moment. This is my scrappy granny square blanket. I was thinking of getting some sun but alas the sun has gone behind the copious amounts of clouds covering the sky above our house, so maybe thats the Universes way of telling me its time for a nap. #thepaisleyhummingbird #scrappycrochetedblanket #timeforanap

23.01.2022 No knitting to show today so I thought Id show you the most gorgeous teaspoon and vintage sugar bowl I bought from the markets at Kalamunda. The teaspoon is absolutely gorgeous. I wish I could find the card from the stall holder so I could tell you who sold it to me but I cant find it. But she always has the most gorgeous stuff. #thepaisleyhummingbird #teaspoonsandvintagesugarbowls

23.01.2022 Since becoming a Domestic Goddess, I have been wearing my aprons a lot and they are now quite ratty after years of wear. I have been thinking about replacing some of them and making a couple more. I watch a vlog called @tales.from.cuckoo.land and Gayna wears the best aprons. Luck would have it that the last vlog I watched Gayna talked about her aprons and told us about a free pattern for an aprons very similar to the one she wears. So off I went to @tessutifabrics and downlo...aded their apron pattern. Yesterday afternoon I put one together and I am really pleased with the outcome. The pattern was really easy to understand and very comprehensive (so good for a new clothes sewer like me). I used some linen blend I have to create this apron and Im just loving it. Its comfortable to wear and really gives a good coverage of my clothes. Ill definitely be making another one, maybe in denim or a heavier cotton blend. Thanks Gayna for the share and thanks Tessuti Fabrics for the great pattern. #thepaisleyhummingbird #talesfromcuckooland #tessutifabricspatterns #agoodapronisworthitsweightingold

21.01.2022 I’m a proud Plant Mama. My carnations have finally started to bloom and I couldn’t be prouder. I grew these from seeds. Only one has started to bloom so far and it is a gorgeous pale pink/peach. Carnations are my favourite flower. They smell good, last as cut flowers forever and have that lovely vintage feel. These carnations will stay in the garden where I can look at them every day. #thepaisleyhummingbird #ilovecarnations

20.01.2022 My latest blog post is now up on my website. I hope you enjoy it. http://www.thepaisleyhummingbird.com.au/?p=156

20.01.2022 This is just what the doctor ordered. Finally a good nights sleep, some sun and knitting with @hedgehogfibres. This is the best I have felt since my operation. Onward and upward as they say. #thepaisleyhummingbird #hedgehogfibres #wintersun

20.01.2022 It’s been a long time coming but finally after 18 months I have a new pattern coming out. Stay tuned! #thepaisleyhummingbird #iloveanewpattern

19.01.2022 After watching @tales.from.cuckoo.land I decided to bake a Victoria Sponge for Hubble to say thank you for his support and sacrifices whilst Im not working. He was very pleased especially with the extra dollop of cream. #thepaisleyhummingbird #talesfromcuckooland #victorianspongecake #thankyouhubble

19.01.2022 My heart is singing with happiness that today I can have the fire going (its actually cold enough), sit in a cosy chair and work on one of my knitting projects. This photo was taken with a Fujifilm X-H1 with a 16mm F1.4 prime lens. #thepaisleyhummingbird #happiness #fujifilmx_au #fujifromhome

19.01.2022 Homemade pie for lunch today. I make these pies up in the Sunbeam Pie Maker for Hubble to take to lunch but I enjoy the odd one or two for lunch too. #thepaisleyhummingbird #homemadepies #sunbeampiemaker #ahandmadehome

18.01.2022 My first two skeins of hand spun 2 ply wool. It’s a little bit thick in places but I’m quite proud of my efforts. It can only get better right? The fleece is 100% merino. #thepaisleyhummingbird #ashfordspinningwheels

17.01.2022 My version of our favourite takeaway - fish and chips. Sweet potato fries and salmon. Yum! #thepaisleyhummingbird #homemadetakeaway #gotthethursdayblues

17.01.2022 I havent bought wool for a while because I was unemployed and trying to use a lot of my stash but when the @bigwoolshow was happening I knew I wanted to support an Australian business. So out of all the wonderful creative businesses at the @bigwoolshow I chose @louielolayarns, mainly because I had heard about how lovely their yarn was and I had been following them on Instagram for a while. Today my little splurge arrived and Im so happy with my choice. I cant wait to make ...a pair a socks out of this yarn. Green is my favourite colour. I also got some @fripandbib stitch markers, some tea and a handwritten note. It was a lovely way to end the week. I also cant wait til I have some money to spend to support some of the other creative businesses I discovered during the Big Wool Show. #thepaisleyhummingbird #bigwoolshow2020 #louieandlolayarns #fripandpipstitchmarkers #ilovegreen See more

17.01.2022 Ive outdone myself this evening, considering I was in hospital on Sunday night with a migraine & have been feeling delicate these last 2 days. A classic meal of silverside with mash and peas and a mustard sauce. Its delicious! #thepaisleyhummingbird

14.01.2022 My latest blog post is now up on my website. You can have a read by clicking on the link. Sorry its a bit long...Ive been busy...theres lots of photos! I hope you enjoy. http://www.thepaisleyhummingbird.com.au/?p=174

13.01.2022 Down the rabbit hole I go again. A couple of weekends ago I received my yarn dyeing kit from @daffodilroadyarn and spent the morning dyeing this yarn. Can I just say it was so much fun and I will definitely be trying it again. I was surprised at just how even I managed to get them dyed. Now I just have to decide what to knit with these... #thepaisleyhummingbird #daffodilroadyarn #myfavouritecolours

13.01.2022 Chelsea Shepherd look at Braithy’s tiny sock! Just soooo cute!

12.01.2022 Something positive out of what has been an otherwise horrendous day - I made some cutlery holders so we can take our own cutlery and not use plastic. #thepaisleyhummingbird #justwantthisdaytobeover #plasticfree

12.01.2022 My next pair of socks is on the needles already. Thats the key to keeping your momentum, especially with the second sock. Dont cast off if you cant immediately cast the next sock on. This is a pattern by @jane.burns.designs which appears in issue 136 of @theknittermag called Leith Hill. Its a pretty pattern of lace, twisted and wrapped stitches. The wool Im using is a 4ply merino nylon blend from @dyeing_4_ewe. Such a pretty lavender colour. #thepaisleyhummingbird #janeburnsdesigns #theknittermagazine #dyeing4ewe

12.01.2022 I have finally finished my Bobble Edge Blanket from the Kiwi Stitch & Knit Co. I actually finished it about 2 weeks ago but I started using it straight away so kept forgetting to photograph it. I love the colour and the wool is so soft and warm. The wool is from @outlawyarn, their Bohemian Worsted. I have 3 balls of this to do a shawl which I will start next week because I just finished my Hinterland Cowl (photos to come soon). I just want to concentrate on finishing my latest pair of socks this week. This project was an absolute joy to work on. I love the wool, the pattern and the finished project. #thepaisleyhummingbird #outlawyarnbohemiaworsted #kiwistitchandknitco

11.01.2022 My latest post is now live on my blog. Its a bit long but has lots of pretty pictures (Ive been very busy). I hope you enjoy the latest ramblings. http://www.thepaisleyhummingbird.com.au/?p=205

09.01.2022 The secret to happiness is freedom...and the secret to freedom is courage. Be courageous dear ones. #thepaisleyhummingbird

09.01.2022 Enjoying the sun whilst it lasts. Im watching the grey clouds come in from the ocean across the city. Rain is expected this afternoon. I dont usually mind the rain but Im over it at the moment and ready for some warmer sunnier weather like weve had this week. It always makes you feel so much better when the weather is good. Enjoy your day people. #thepaisleyhummingbird #perthwinterweather #glorioussunshine

09.01.2022 Rainbow socks done...except for the dropped stitch I found a couple of days ago. They really could have done with the extra quarter inch length in the foot but I just wanted to finish them. As gorgeous as these socks look, the wool was not a joy to knit with. This was not my only dropped stitch. Glad they are finished so I can do another pair in some wool that is much more user friendly. #thepaisleyhummingbird #rainbowsocks

09.01.2022 Sunday morning sleep-in has been interrupted by a headache so what am I doing instead at 3am on a Sunday morning. Watching the Little Drops of Wonderful podcast (@starryeyesali) and knitting on my Lola Sock which is a pattern I bought to support a very special cause for Gayna from @tales.from.cuckoo.land. Pattern is by Jooles Hill of @sewsweetviolet #thepaisleyhummingbird #littledropsofwonderful #billsspecialbus #lolasocks

08.01.2022 Nature will always find a way... #thepaisleyhummingbird

08.01.2022 Sunday afternoon has been spent watching The Grocery Girls (@grocerygirlsknit) and working on my Kinikin Cardigan by Tara-Lynne Morrison (@good_night_day ). Im using Malabrigo Rios in the Arco Iris colourway and I love it. This project is being kept in my new @jojiandco canvas project bag. It took a while to get to Australia because of covid-19 but it was worth the wait. It is so well made. I also bought some of their drawstring project bags. #thepaisleyhummingbird #thegrocerygirlsknit #malabrigorios #kinikincardigan #jojiandco

08.01.2022 Another project off the needles. This time its the Hinterland Cowl knitted with @touchyarnsnz. I apologise for the lighting. The yarn is rather gorgeous with its muted tones but the light is turning it a bit yellow and murky. We have had some pretty cold mornings in Perth lately, so this cowl has already got a lot of wear. #thepaisleyhummingbird #hinterlandcowl #touchyarnsnz

07.01.2022 My new cast on - The Golden Hour Shawl by @dreareneeknits. Ive been wanting to knit this pattern for ages. Im using @outlawyarn in Bohemia Worsted in Ebony, Larkspur and Bone. Its knitting up really fast, which I love. #thepaisleyhummingbird #andreamowrydesigns #thegoldenhourshawl #outlawyarns #bohemiaworsted

06.01.2022 At the bottom of a tea cup - a photographic portfolio of teacup wisdom. Many of us have not been able to give or receive these for a while now but they can be the most healing action you can ever give or receive. #thepaisleyhummingbird #atthebottomofateacup

05.01.2022 How cute is this little sock. My nephew asked for a pair for his birthday (hope I can get them done) and he picked Tequila Sunrise from @westyorkshirespinners Signature 4 ply. I bought this ball and a couple of others from my favourite yarn online store @knit_purl_sew #thepaisleyhummingbird #knitpurlsew #westyorkshirespinnerssignature4ply

05.01.2022 Finally got some time to cast on a new pair of socks using my @westyorkshirespinners Signature Sparkle 4 ply that I bought from @knit_purl_sew. I’m not using the free sock pattern I got with the yarn. I’m knitting the Will O’ The Wisp sock pattern by Olivia Villarreal which can be found on Ravelry under This Handmade Life I think. The pattern is free and it’s really easy to follow. I saw the pattern on @tales.from.cuckoo.land and fell in love instantly. #thepaisleyhummingbird #westyorkshirespinnerssignature4ply #sparklysocks

05.01.2022 I finished another apron a couple of weeks ago. This pattern is free from @tessutifabrics and the fabric I used was a linen cotton blend. I have one more to make. #thepaisleyhummingbird #tessutipatterns #themostwornpieceinmywardrobe #thehumbleapron

05.01.2022 I was out in my garden this morning trying to enjoy the sunshine and warmth before the next lot of rain comes through and decided to take my camera out. The wild ducks were visiting, along with the a kookaburra and parrots. And I finally found the culprit who has been eating my geraniums. Can you see him hiding in the branches of my ficus? #thepaisleyhummingbird #wintersunshine #wildlifegalore

03.01.2022 I hope everyone is having a safe and wonderful Easter break. Enjoy! Dont eat too much chocolate or hot cross buns. #thepaisleyhummingbird #ahandmadehome #easterwishes

03.01.2022 My new blog post is now up on the website. Check it out here. I hope you enjoy. http://www.thepaisleyhummingbird.com.au/?p=159

02.01.2022 I have been meaning to put up a photo of my new dresser. Suzanne from @ourlittleshedshopperth refurbished it using chalk paint from @madebypainthome. I fell in love with the colour and the bling doorknobs. Im going to paint the our dining setting in this paint eventually. It holds all my craft stuff that was taking up floor space in my studio. I love it. #thepaisleyhummingbird #ourlittleshedshopperth #madebypainthome

01.01.2022 So I’ve been to my favourite botanical store this weekend (@hillsbotanic) and acquired two more plant babies. A Polka Dot Begonia and a Goldilocks. The Begonia looks like it has been painted with liquid paper. It’s the strangest thing and it has a beautiful burgundy colour underneath. The Goldilocks is this beautiful golden lime green. Once again Belle was so lovely and helpful. It’s like visiting with an old friend. She helped me pick the perfect plants for my low light hallway. Only a few more to go and I think my family will be complete. Did I just say that? Who am I kidding! I’m addicted to how good these plants make me feel when I spend time with them. Oh and I found out that I actually bought a Calathea last time, not a Begonia. Oops! I can’t wait for my next visit. #thepaisleyhummingbird #hillsbotanic #plantbabies
