25.01.2022 Your Fuel = Your Fire. Rural Fire Brigades are there to provide assistance to you.

25.01.2022 Attention all residents: The coming days will see an increased fire danger. The recent rain while helpful, will not reduce this approaching danger. Very low rain fall over an extended period (years even) has resulted in extremely low soil moisture and is a significant contributing cause to ease of fire ignition, spread and persistence of fire. ... The fuel load is always dry at this time of the year and responds quickly to current weather conditions. With a very dry air mass, gusty winds, increasing temperatures, along with very low soil moisture, any fire ignition will take hold surprisingly quickly. Fire ignition can happen from any number of activities such as welding, grinding, slashing or mowing, "paddock bashing", falling off motorbikes, camp fires etc. Please think about what your activity and if necessary delay it until weather conditions improve. Please report fires to 000 immediately, a quick response helps to keep the fire as small as possible. Above all: Prepare. Act. Survive. Have a Bush Fire Plan.

25.01.2022 The current spate of westerly winds look like hanging around until Tuesday. So please avoid lighting your fires until then. If you must have a fire going, wait until night and then extinguish it completely using water early the next morning. Best idea is to avoid lighting any fires until Wednesday. Naturally, any ash from wood heaters need to be completely wet when disposing of them. Stay safe.

24.01.2022 Well worth watching

18.01.2022 This time last year saw the very start of fire bans that did not stop until January. With the bans came the horrendous fires. While conditions are not that bad just yet, there are still very concerning signs. Fires seem to be running fairly hard in spite of the benign conditions. On a previous post, a comment was made about the very low ground moisture. This is the primary factor is driving the current outbreak of fire activity. That, and sheer carelessness or thoughtless act...s. Please consider all outdoor activities carefully. Above all, prepare your property and yourself....now Act. Survive. See more

18.01.2022 Warning: Fire Danger rating for the next couple of days will be Very High. Following on from the last post, westerly winds will increas significantly and lower humidity results in an elevated fire danger. Please extinguish all fire using water tonight, and refrain from lighting small fires for the next few days. However, this advice does not mean there is a fire ban in place. It is just time to be extra careful with the use of fire. It is now too late to conduct hazard r...eduction burns in forested areas, and once again is standard practice in this area. Prepare. Act. 13.01.2022 This area is headed into a protracted period of westerly winds, which is quite normal for this time of year. These winds can vary anywhere from the south west to north west and can sometimes be quite strong. Winds always dry the countryside out, mostly very rapidly. Now is the time to be extra cautious with fire use, and prepare your property now to protect it, and you from fire. Prepare. Act. Survive.

13.01.2022 The area is in for a couple of hot days, westerly / northerly winds are expected to pick up as well. The worst hit areas will likely be just a bit further west, but conditions here will still be bad enough. The BOM warns that a fire weather warning is possible, and we all know what that means. Any fires that get away during such weather will cause problems for fire-fighters, potentially putting lives and properties at risk. There has not been anywhere near enough rain which does not help the situation. So please do not light any open fires, and use water to put out any existing fires now, before the bad weather arrives. Prepare. Act. Survive. Report fires to 000.

11.01.2022 Conditions are such that permits for permitted burns in timbered country will no longer be granted. Please ask if you want to know why this is the case, the brigade welcomes your questions. However, permits for burning grassland are still possible. As always - stay safe Prepare now for the future. ... Act when the time comes. Survive for your family, friends and neighbors. See more

04.01.2022 A lot of general smoke in the area especially in the mornings is most likely due to the Fraser Island fire, although there are a few local fires. The fire on the island is big, and you can regularly see the smoke from it pop up on the weather radar, like this example.

02.01.2022 Really hot weather coming, starting Sunday and continuing until Thursday. Some areas will also experience some strong winds. Fraser Island is one of these areas, and the fire there is causing serious concern. The Island is now closed to all visitors. Permits in The Palms area will be cancelled tonight until further notice. Please take care, avoid lighting fires. If you have one going, put it out using water. ... Stay safe and report all fires to 000. See more

02.01.2022 Now is the time to carefully reconsider any slashing or mowing that is required. Westerly winds have dried the landscape considerably over the last couple of days. Have you noticed how dry the soil is? The combination of these two factors mean that fires can start surprisingly easily. Hot exhaust systems are a well known source of fire ignition. Another problem area with unwanted fire ignition is "hot work" - slashing mowing, welding, grinding etc. The dust that follows a ...slasher or mower is actuary finely divided grass particles which is almost explosive. Flour is a prime example of this. When the flour is at rest and fire is applied all that happens is a toast smell. But as soon as the flour is spread into the air as a dust - a massive fireball erupts. The Great Fire of London was reportedly started in the King's bakery from flour dust. See more
