21.01.2022 Great to see some major companies return to performance venues this month, for socially distanced concerts & theatre productions. If the return of the ACO is anything to go by, they are going to be pretty special. Congratulations to @australianchamberorchestra and all of the other organisations making it work. ... #Repost @australianchamberorchestra with @make_repost Words won’t do justice to the feeling in the concert hall this evening but one of our patrons said it ‘felt like coming home’ and we couldn’t agree more. Thank you @cityrecitalhall and thank you to our beloved audience, we have missed you so much. Look out for the full photo gallery from our premiere performance of ACO Transfigured on Monday. #aco #orchestra #musicians #chambermusic Photo Daniel Boud See more

19.01.2022 Around Australia, we’re seeing very different attitudes towards public interaction, and attending events like #concerts, #exhibitions, #festivals and #workshops. The proportion that say they’re ‘ready to attend, as soon as permitted’ varies from 39% in NT to 20% in VIC. We’re hurting for all our Victorian colleagues right now - and hoping we can get on top of transmission rates ASAP. Here in NSW things are feeling pretty grim too, but time will tell. ... If you want to know more about audience attitudes in your region, head to our website where you can explore the data in a freely accessible dashboard. There’s plenty to explore in terms of attendance behaviour, spending, sentiment and online participation. Hit us up with any questions, we’re here to help however we can. #AudienceOutlookMonitor

18.01.2022 We're looking forward to Wednesday's webinar on post-pandemic audiences. It's designed primarily for Victorian arts organisations as part of a new Recovery Roadmap series, delivered by ArtsHub for Creative Victoria. We'll be taking a look at short, medium and long-term horizons for audience engagement.

16.01.2022 Tandi was up bright and early yesterday to join Mim Cooke on ABC Radio Gippsland for Saturday Breakfast. They talked about audiences of the future, and how we’re likely to experience art and music in future. The link is in the comments, it starts at 1:05:40 for anyone interested in the playback

15.01.2022 New data is out today on audiences and their return to concerts, exhibitions and festivals! State-by-state the picture varies, with some states feeling pretty 'normal' and others in shutdown. Comfort levels at cultural venues continue to increase, thanks to the hard work of event organisers and cultural venues across the country. Meanwhile, comfort eating at local restaurants and using gyms has actually decreased, on average! We're seeing the biggest changes in the performan...ce sector, with activity beginning to grow again after many months of hiatus. Key stats below and there's a link in the comments to our website, where you can download our Snapshot Report and get the full story.

15.01.2022 Making museums and galleries COVID-safe to visit has not been easy. Huge amounts of work have gone into plans on how to keep visitors, staff and stakeholders safe. We asked 1,875 returning visitors about their experience: what worked well and what could be improved? For the most part the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, though of course there are things we can improve on. ... One interesting thing to note is that some people have not have felt 100% safe, but felt uncomfortable about speaking up to other visitors and staff. Tandi has shared some insights on LinkedIn today, for those tasked with rebuilding attendance at our beloved spaces. The link is in the comments below.

14.01.2022 The results of the latest National Arts Participation Survey are now available, providing the most accurate and up to date picture of Australian participation in #arts and #culture. We're looking forward to digesting the full #research report in all its glorious geeky detail, but for now this video has some highlights. https://youtu.be/7dZ99yYQ-K4

13.01.2022 In the @dailytelegraph this weekend, we spoke with Elizabeth Fortescue about audiences returning to the theatre. It’s tricky times as venues try and make the numbers work to bring socially distanced concerts & shows back to our stages. In our home state of NSW, more performances are hitting the box office and our latest data shows that 1 in 4 past attendees are actively making plans to attend right now. Our full report on the national results of the September (Phase 3) Audi...ence Outlook Monitor survey is out on Tuesday! Lots of new results to help presenters & promoters plan ahead and do everything they need to welcome people back. Pic via Elizabeth Fortescue Twitter #audienceoutlookmonitor

13.01.2022 Today is Australia’s worst day of the pandemic so far, in terms of number of new cases and number of deaths. So, I was heartened to read about this new project by @stefpos to look at ways to better see the human beings behind statistics. So needed right now. Congratulations Stefanie! #Repost @stefpos with @make_repost... I’ve recently started a new art residency! And the first step in my art practice always begins like this, with lots and lots (and lots) of notes and stacks of paper, as seen onscreen :) I’m excited to share that I’ve recently started my role as an artist-in-residence with @peoplelikeyoulikeme, a group of scientists, sociologists, anthropologists and artists from Imperial, Goldsmiths, and Warwick universities exploring how data personalisation actually works, looking at its outcomes and possibly unintended consequences. I’ll be working with Dr. Helen Ward, who as part of this research project is focusing on personalisation in medicine. Through my art practice I will be researching how the various stakeholders in a biobank perceive the ‘people behind the numbers’ who consent to their biological samples and data being used and stored for the research that personalised medicine is built upon, culminating in an artwork that communicates the resulting insights to a wider audience. ‘There are people behind the numbers’ is a common data cliché spoken on conference stages and written in articles by many data and data visualisation practitioners (including myself!) to remind practitioners to respect the real, imperfect individuals with complex needs that ‘big’, aggregated, anonymous datasets are derived from. However, this is where the conversation often ends: referencing ‘people behind numbers’ in a theoretical sense as opposed to any direct on-the-ground research to see how this concept plays out in practice I feel so lucky to have been given the opportunity to explore such an intriguing (and important, especially in 2020) topic. 11.01.2022 We’ve uploaded all our recent webinars to the website, so you can catch up on your hit of audience insights anytime! This was a fun one for ArtsHub answering the question, ‘what will audiences look like when they return?’ Best part is, it’s only 30 mins! (What a flash of brilliance by ArtsHub - all webinars should be 30 mins, right?)

08.01.2022 Today’s eye candy is @phoenixcentralpark - the new gallery and performance space in Sydney’s Chippendale, commissioned by Judith Neilson. We’re loving seeing a building of such ambition open at a time like this. Now, if this pandemic can just move along, we’d quite like to get on with the business of attending in person! Congratulations to the two architectural teams that worked on this collaborative commission and everyone involved. ... Reported in the AFR: ‘Neilson envisaged a space in which architecture and interior design as well as the visual and performing arts would embrace for an immersive experience. 06.01.2022 For those curious about what will be different post-pandemic... ‘Visions for Culture’ is a new resource visualising qualitative data from audience answers to the question, ‘What role can arts and culture organisations play in your community to assist with recovery from the pandemic?’ With support from City of Sydney we’ be scanned thousands of responses from Sydneysiders, and the themes are relevant nationally. 04.01.2022 Out today: July 2020 data from the #AudienceOutlookMonitor shows that audiences are welcoming opportunities to return to arts and cultural events - but the picture varies across the country. The Phase 2 (July 2020) Snapshot Report is now available and only takes 10 mins to read. Phase 2 data is also now in the dashboard so you can see the results for your region and artform. Let us know what it sparks for you. All questions and ideas are welcome!... Thank you to all those involved in creating this resource for all to access, including WolfBrown, supporting partners, participating organisations and respondents. https://www.thepatternmakers.com.au//audience-outlook-moni
