18.01.2022 Character is who you actually are, personality is how others perceive you. Character is much more important than personality.

18.01.2022 Deepa+aavali- deepavali...an array of lamps The concept of the deepa, the earthen or metal lamp lit with oil and wick has such a beautiful symbolic meaning. At... the adhibhautika level, the lamp brings light, the byproducts from the burning wick dipped in sesame seed oil or mahua oil are known to cleanse the atmosphere of pollutants At the adhidaivika level, the lamps are lit as an offering to the Gods, seeking their benevolent grace, and as a parihara seeking guidance when faced with challenging situations. Following soon after Mahalaya, and on or after the Amavasya, lamps were also lit on Deepavali to guide our ancestors back to the realm of the manes. At the adhyatmika level, according to Samkhya, the lamp represents sattva, rajas and tamas, the intertwining strands of prakrti that are the substratum of all creation- indicating that the lit lamp dispels the darkness of avidya, that obscures realization of our true nature as Eternal Light...for that which lights up the sun is also the light that shines in our heart. The light shines always, at all times and in all situations, but our egocentred mind prevents us from seeing this light within and without. The destruction of Naraka is the destruction of a darkness that brings dullness, despair, disease and death. Krishna rekindles again and again the lamp of love, laughter and life in our hearts, reminding us of our true nature. And so deepavali celebrates the resurgence of hope, happiness and harmony...beginning with the purificatory Ganga snana, at an auspicious muhurta (a conjunction of space and time) when the Ganga verily manifests in every source of water and going on to joyous feasting, the bursting of fireworks, wearing of new clothes and visiting family and friends ( masked this year, ofcourse)...the whole day being one that reaffirms the purpose of our existence, a day that shows us the importance of connecting to the light within and to connect to all else around us through the lens of that very light. And this is not an isolated solitary lamp, for the Bharatiya world view sees all of creation as a continuous array of light, as one continuous manifestation of the Paramatma in myriad forms. What a beautiful vision indeed...a never ending chain of lamps lighting up the macrocosmic canvas... a truly magnificent Cosmic deepavali that celebrates our Source, linking us heart to heart, soul to soul...connected in ways that transcend time, space, form, name and all other boundaries that divide and separate. Wishing all of you a wonderful Deepavali.

10.01.2022 "A monk decides to meditate alone. Away from his monastery, he takes a boat and goes to the middle of the lake, closes his eyes and begins to meditate. After ...a few hours of unperturbed silence, he suddenly feels the blow of another boat hitting his. With his eyes still closed, he feels his anger rising and, when he opens his eyes, he is ready to shout at the boatman who dared to disturb his meditation. But when he opened his eyes, saw that it was an empty boat, not tied up, floating in the middle of the lake ... At that moment, the monk achieves self-realization and understands that anger is within him; it simply needs to hit an external object to provoke it. After that, whenever he meets someone who irritates or provokes his anger, he remembers; the other person is just an empty boat. Anger is inside me. " Thich Nhat Hanh
