Her artist statement and a selection of images are below You can meet her today at the Pear Shed Artspace, 45 Parsons Bay Road, White Beach between 10am and 3 pm Ocean of Creativity ... Hand thrown and decoreated ceramics. The ocean flows through my body and around in my thoughts and dreams. I have a continuous flow with the ocean using art mediums as my voice of creativity. It eddies away and disperses and upwells, evolving into songwriting, or I find new ways to cook and create dishes with local foraged sea vegetables. I have been throwing bowls and baby chino cups, hand painted with images of the critically endangered Red Handfish and the flouncy Weedy Seadragon to celebrate their beautiful forms which are world renown, and a signature life form in our local waters Cate Foley Burke ~ artist statement [email protected]

21.01.2022 Todays artist in residence is Peter Godfrey. He will be in the gallery today from 10am till 3pm. Pop in, say hi and grab a coffee from the Pickers Pantry while you are there :) Peter Godfreys artist statement "...In my working life I taught high school students about history, geography, poetry, grammar and short story writing. I loved the job. In my spare time I renovated and extended my home, using skills I learned from my father and my brother-in-law. After retirement, I... began making trinket boxes using Tasmanias exotic minor species timbers, such as huon pine, blackheart sassafras, myrtle, blackwood and king billy pine. I wanted a box design which was unconventional, one that would adequately showcase our wonderful timbers. I am still dreaming up unusual designs, and I never tire of the work because no two boxes are the same as the timbers always vary. I love using rare examples of our timbers, like birds-eye huon pine, tiger myrtle and fiddleback blackwood. After much sanding, I finish my boxes with a single-pack polyurethane finish which is sprayed on and lightly sanded back between coats. A furniture polish can later be applied if it is ever required. My multiple drawer boxes are fitted with rare-earth magnets which act as catches to prevent the drawers from falling open. Although small (2mm x 3mm) the magnets are extremely strong. Most recently I have begun making rectangular boxes with exposed dove-tail joints for jewellery and commissions for boxes to house funery urns. My wine glass holders are a fun, practical object which present an inexpensive way to take home a beautiful piece of Tasmanian exotic minor species timber. Other recent works include drinks trays and chopping boards..."

" pop in and meet Celeste today between 10am and 3pm at The Pear Shed Artspace, 45 Parsons Bay Road, White Beach (just in behind the Fruit and Veg stall.

21.01.2022 Good Morning. Todays Artist in Residence is Monica Henry - sculptor of wood, fibre and found objects. She derives great pleasure from repurposing materials that bring joy to others. Monica has lived at Roaring Beach for the past 8 years. An inveterate beach goer, every morning, whatever the weather, she heads down to immerse herself in the magnificence that is Roaring. Her art work reflects the beach and is often made from beautiful driftwood or shells gathered on her forays.... Her most recent series of driftwood sculptures called "Feeling Good" (first image) has been inspired by Covid 19. They represent triumph of the human spirit over adversity. She is also a keen knitter and maker of kitchen utensils / small stools from local timbers. She will be in the Pear Shed Artspace from 10am till 3 pm today. 45 Parsons Bay Road, White Beach 7184 See more

21.01.2022 Welcome to todays Artist in Residence program. Susa Ceramics is the work of visual artist and White Beach resident, Suze van der Beek. Suze has a life-long appreciation of ceramics; textures, glazes, and forms. She enjoys creating these highly surface decorated flower vases and plant pots, using linocuts for texture and sprigs for relief (moulds taken from shells). Suze says the work is labour intensive and yet very rewarding. Each piece is slightly different and no two are exactly the same. Suze also produces small wearable art pieces such as photo and ceramic brooches and more recently these delicate ceramic earrings. Suze will be on site today between 10am and 3pm.

21.01.2022 Welcome to The Pear Shed Artspace, Artist in residence programme. Our feature Artist today is local sculptor Mick Randazzo. He will be at the gallery from 10am till 3pm today. Pop in and say gday ".......I was inspired by a group of very talented artist who were all painters and I knew i really wanted to be involved after seeing the pleasure they got from seeing their finished works. That same year we found ourselves in Paris at the Louvre which just sent me into meltdow...n. Especially the marble sculptures of all those amazing people so long ago. I though these things made of stone are going to be around for a long time, like hundreds if not thousands of years and I could carve something like this to leave as my logo on humanity. Here they are.....The cuttlefish and pumice sculptures were another medium I discovered after working with such hard material as granite and bluestone and they float! Unlike the stone. Inspiration came from ancient Greek and Chinese origin when shape and form were more important than detail. These shapes were perfectly achieved with this medium. Each piece is signed with a V Which stands for Vesputio, a legacy to the Italian side of my heritage" See more

18.01.2022 Today our 'Artist in residence' is multi media artist, Doune Burns. Many of her pieces make use of upcycled and recycled objects, particularly in her sculptural relief wall works, often with pyrographic components. Equally at home with paint brush, pencil, ink, clay and wood, you will discover her unique style, and quirks which are 'Dounified Designs' I love making marks......I have always had a penchant for maps and charts. I see them as things of intricate beauty. Perhap...s sentiment plays a part as I well remember, as a child in the late 60's being surrounded by maps and charts on the walls of our shack, which was perched atop a cliff at Primrose Sands, before that place of ineffable loveliness was pillaged of its natural beauty. For me, a map is a work of art, intimately connected with place and memory. I love randomly designing with repetative lines and dots on my work, weather it be ceramic, wood or paper, hinting at the organic qualities I see in my every day life, such as lines and patternisation on on rock formations and sometimes replicating map contours, sand and cliff symbols... 08.01.2022 Welcome to todays Artist in Residence Sue Chard of Possumbilities Design. A detailed description of her process is below. Her Eco Dyed clothing is exquisite and unique. Pop in and say hi today. You will find her working of some new kitchen witches affectionately titled "Granny Smiths". The gallery is open now and closes at 3pm. Possumbilities Design Studio is located in Nubeena on the Tasman Peninsula. This is where I produce a range of eco-printed and naturally dyed texti...les, clothing and accessories using mainly Australian native plants gathered locally. I also produce hand-spun and dyed yarns, up-cycled clothing, felted, knitted and crocheted garments and millinery. My dye practice has taken many years of studying and experimenting with plants to create safe, organic and gentle methods of making slow fashion. I belong to a group of wonderful wise women who have met annually for over 15yrs on the historic property of Bangor at Dunalley. Each year we build our campfires and tend to our dye pots sharing together the skills and knowledge of our crafts. Teaching and passing on all that weve discovered since last we gathered. Many of our friends and visitors from overseas are fascinated with our unique Australian flora but due to our strict quarantine laws are unable to take piece of our Aussie bush home with them as a souvenir. Cloth printed using our native foliage can be a lovely reminder of their trip to our shores. The process involves time and patience not mass production. Leaves and other organic matter are placed on the cloth, wrapped or rolled into a bundle around wood or metal. It is then either preserved in jars for months to let the plants do their magic or slowly steamed or simmered for hours depending on the effects required. All plants are carefully selected for their colorfastness and non toxicity. The wool and silks used in my art practice have been ethically sourced as much as possible and all foliage used is gathered from either my own dye garden, seasonal windfall from the bush, street tree prunings and specific historical location gardens. Seaweeds are gathered washed up on our local beaches not fresh harvested. The colours produced depend upon the seasons. Whats flowering or fruiting dictates the colour palette. Most of my garments are made from randomly found treasure when inspiration strikes therefore sizes etc can be rather random too. I do try to stock a good variety of sizes. Because of the serendipitous nature of my work I dont usually do commissions. Each piece is individually made therefore each piece is naturally unique. See more

07.01.2022 Today @the pear shed artspace, our Artist in Residence is glass artist ~ Betty Stapenell. Her work is colourful and cheerful. Her most recent works are experimental and exquisite. "......I love working with glass as a medium, either lead-light, or when time permits, fusing and slumping (generally referred to as Warm Glass). I never really know how a piece will come out of my kiln though my recent experiments have included delicate coral bowls and colourful organic designed bi...rd baths & feeders. I am also creating some wierd and wonderful cubinism art pieces. My very simple designs on plates and bowls are fun to create and also have a practical use, I call it naive art. My work also includes coasters, platters, wall art and Christmas decorations. I have no formal training just a love of experimenting with glass." come in today, grab a coffee and check out Bettys work between 10am and 3pm See more

Her work is exquisitely delicate and meticulously executed. ".....My work primarily consists of drawing and photography, creating multi layered works that interweave a narrative of an emerging landscape with history, duration and geological time. The works unfold in a series of marks and traces that respond to fragments of experiences brought ...together to recall or suggest our movement within the landscape. My actions of repetition and layering visually interpret my own steps and gathered fragments from the land along the way...."
