13.01.2022 How did you end up where you are in your career right now? Me? I never thought I’d be running my own show, so what bought me here? After nearly 2 decades of working in HR I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some amazing mentors, people who understood the importance of extending compassion and respect to employees, even when disciplining or terminating them. Applying the principles of natural justice to their actions and having solid business acumen to understand the whol...e of business, not just HR The flipside to this of course is working with some appalling HR practitioners and leaders. Treating employees with contempt, bullying employees out of the organisation instead of following the appropriate legal process, terminating and disciplining employees with no understanding of the impact of their actions and words on people’s wellbeing. And just a general lack of understanding of the connection between the employee and business success Cue January 2018 and I found myself on the receiving end of a redundancy that was so badly executed I just couldn’t see myself wanting to be part of the corporate machine anymore I thought about local businesses who didn’t have the need for a dedicated HR employee, but most certainly needed quality HR processes to drive business success and level the playing field against their larger industry competitors Business owners spending way to much of their time on employee issues, putting up with poor behaviour, tolerating employees who are just the wrong fit for the business, overwhelmed with the lack of confidence and knowledge of what to do next I wanted to be the antidote to their problems Now? I AM the antidote.
