25.01.2022 Had a lovely two-hour personal workshop with Simone Moses yesterday. She was keen to learn to shoot dance photos along with other action. Her daughter Summer came along to model for us. Come along to my next Four-Week-Workshop beginning next Sunday July 27 and learn how to shoot like this.

24.01.2022 Theres still time to launch into the next Photo Coach Four-Week-Workshop beginning on Sunday. Dont miss out. https://www.thephotocoach.com.au/four-week-workshop/

20.01.2022 I took this picture at Kurrawa Surf Club while waiting to start an early morning workshop. I had so much fun on this workshop. My next Four-Week class begins on May 15. It'll be great

20.01.2022 I photographer the GC Marathon for the Bulletin on Saturday morning. At the start of the 10klm run it was absolutely bucketing down. We were standing near a couple of volunteers at the start and they were high-fiving the runners as they went past. It was really cool and they were almost my favourite shots of the day. Its always a good idea to look for that different shot in any given situation.

20.01.2022 It was really good to get out on my current Four Week Workshop which stopped in the middle of March due to the Covid 19 lockdown. Four of the participants live in NSW so I travelled to Fingal yesterday to meet with @Ron MacIndoe and @John Corina Presser, and @Max Sladden. We talked about using fast shutter speeds and depth of field as well as servo-focusing. There were a few waves at the point which was an added bonus. The first surf photo was taken by Corina which was cool. I'm looking forward to catching up with them all at sunrise next week. I'm looking to begin the following workshop the Sunday after next, which will be on June 7. More details to come about that.

19.01.2022 Some of the happy smiling faces from my current Four-Week-Workshop at Kurrawa. Come along to my next workshop beginning October 27 and join the fun. Meet new people and learn how to take great photos

19.01.2022 After Sunday's early morning workshop I was enthused enough to go to Fingal at daybreak. I'm going to run my next half-day workshop down there after my Lightroom class on February 23. Its an awesome place to take photos. Details to come

19.01.2022 Had an enjoyable time through the week teaching Queensland Rugby League Communications girls, Jorja, my old friend from the Courier Mail, and her colleague Colleen. They have to photograph some Queensland Cup games and various portraits as part of their job and wanted to improve their action photography. We spent some time at the Broncos field running around passing etc while they took photos with a 70-200 and a 300mm lens By the end of the day they were all over it and the photos you see here are theirs, except the one of the two of them. I'm really looking forward to seeing their results in next year's footy season.

18.01.2022 Another pic from Fingal last Saturday. Don't forget just over a couple of weeks to go for the next Four Week Workshop on July 7.

18.01.2022 Enjoyed a couple of hours at The Star Gold Coast yesterday assisting social media executive Peta Yalg with her food photography using her mobile phone. It was great to experiment with various lighting and angles, and sharing some handy tips. While Im no means an expert in this field I have done a fair bit over the years. We got some good results with the food we had to shoot. Just a couple of the images I shot alongside Peta.

18.01.2022 We had a great morning down at Kurrawa Beach yesterday morning for our early morning workshop. Not a lot of colour in the sky but it was really nice just the same

18.01.2022 These pics are shot through the plane window (obvious) while flying into Christchurch. Dont be put off by the recent events there. Its an awesome place. Snow, surf. We love it.

17.01.2022 People have been asking me the best way to photograph the sun through the smoke haze we've been getting on the coast lately I usually tell them to use the longest lens you have available, to make the sun appear bigger in the frame. I always like to to have something silhouetted in the photo to add interest but it becomes a balancing act unless youre a long way from the subject. In the first frame as you can see the guys are way out of focus. The second frame I couldnt fit the walker and the sun in. Decided that the best pic was the guy fly fishing silhouetted against the suns rays. So there you go. Might try again tomorrow. My next Four-Week-Workshop starts next Sunday morning for anyone who's interested. See www.thephotocoach.com.au

17.01.2022 I'm really excited to announce the new format for the Photo Coach Four-Week-Course beginning on July 7. 14.01.2022 I'm really excited about my first workshop of the year beginning on January 12 at Kurrawa Surf Club. There's been such a great response this class is full, but there's still a few spaces left for the next workshop beginning on February 16. Don't miss out

13.01.2022 Does anyone know someone whos good with Wordpress. Need a bit of help cleaning up my website?

12.01.2022 I had a nice story from Alex Luck, City Reputation Marketing Officer at We are Gold Coast, this week. https://wearegc.com.au//kick-start-your-creativity-in-2020/ I was very chuffed. Thanks Alex. @We Are GC

12.01.2022 Just a few scenic photos from The Abel Tasman National Park in the Tasman region of New Zealands South Island. Lynn and I caught a ferry to a place called Tonga Quarry and walked to Medlands Beach in the national park. It wasnt far and Lynn walked in thongs which we laughed about. The scenery was so beautiful I can totally recommend this to everyone.

11.01.2022 Was the featured photographer in The Gold Coast Bulletin magazine today. It was nice to see my pics other than work ones published.

10.01.2022 I just finished another Four-Week-Workshop with a really great bunch. We did two very early morning shoots this time. Its a fantastic way for everyone to progress as the light is ever-changing. There isn always so much going on down the beach at Kurrawa. Just a great place to take photos. My next Four-Week-Workshop begins on March 22 and there are still spots available.

07.01.2022 I've been working with this great guy,@ Shannon Woolley. I was contacted by @iscreamtravel who specialise in helping to improve the lives of people with a disability. He's really keen to improve his photography skills. It's been interesting to find ways for him to easily takes pics, but he has a bracket on his wheelchair on which you can mount a camera, and using a program called Cam Ranger, allows him to control his camera via an iPad. It works a treat. The bracket allows for horizontal and vertical movement but a ball head mount would be perfect as the bracket is not exactly level. Anyone out there have one they don't use?

07.01.2022 I'm stoked to announce that my next Four-Week_Workshop begins again on June 14 at Kurrawa Beach. It will be so good to re-start doing something I love after the Covid 19 lockdown. See https://www.thephotocoach.com.au/four-week-workshop/ to enrol. See you there

07.01.2022 Theres still time to join my next Four Week Workshop beginning on Sunday at Kurrawa Surf Club. I had so much fun on a cool morning with Nam and Simone last weekend.

05.01.2022 I've been playing golf at Palm Meadows Golf Course in Carrara on the Gold Coast for the past 12 months and the wildlife is fantastic. IO see photos constantly I really love the little coots that wander around the holes with water on them. Cute coots!! Not just the coots but baby magpies and native hens. Here are a few pics from yesterday. Going to make it an ongoing project.

05.01.2022 Good morning. I'm feeling like to day is the first day of the new year. I've really gone missing since the pandemic changed our lives back in March. I'm not sure if my golf's improved either!! I'm thinking we can see some light at the end of the tunnel and life may get back to some normality, with some restrictions being eased in the not too distant future. I'm looking forward to resuming my last class which had only completed the first week before the border was closed. Unfo...rtunately three members of the class are from NSW so I may have to venture down there to finish. My thoughts go out to all those affected by this horrid disease and I know a lot of my photographic colleagues, especially my mates who shoot sport, have been stopped in their tracks. Lets hope we can all get out there soon and start again. Here's a pretty pic for my first day back. See more

05.01.2022 Just finished January's Four_week-Workshop. It was really good with lots of great interested and interesting students. The next workshop begins on February 16. Spots are filling fast. Here's a selection of photos from the workshop

04.01.2022 This lady was enjoying the sunset while feeding seagulls at Fingal last weekend. Just a reminder about my Four Week Class beginning Sunday, July 7 in its new format. Learn to take photos like this

03.01.2022 This was the place we stayed at on the way to Pohara in the Tasman region of the South Island of NZ. (not really) Because the light was a bit flat I had a bit of a play in Lightroom and here's the result. Hope you like it.

03.01.2022 I had another play in the garden with Canon 100mm macro. I shot these backlit, using bright highlights and dark shadows with nice colour saturation. I will definitely run a workshop in this in the future although Im by no means a macro expert. A lot of the time its just a matter of seeing how certain light works with the subject. Its great fun although without a tripod, depth of field can be a bit narrow. Try it. You dont need a macro lens

03.01.2022 My Next Four-Week-Workshop begins on August 30 at Kurrawa Surf Club get in quickly. You too can photograph my Michael Jackson impersonation, shot by talented photographer @Simone Moses last Sunday.

03.01.2022 I'm looking forward to my next Four-Week-Workshop beginning on August 11. The last workshop at Kurrawa was a smash hit. Here's a couple of happy photographers on the course. Blair and Ferlicity modelling.

02.01.2022 Thanks so much to Australian Olympic synchronised swimmer Rachel Presser for her help with my workshop at Fingal yesterday morning. If youd like to better your photography my next Four-Week-workshop begins on June 14 at Kurrawa. Get in touch soon. Spots are filling quickly.

01.01.2022 It was really enjoyable to help the girls from the marketing team of The Children's Hospital Foundation, @Jamie-Leigh Children's Hospital Foundation, yesterday. It was my first corporate coaching job and I had so much fun. We did some theory in the morning, learning about the camera controls and settings, then off to the different areas of the hospital where the girls take the bulk of their photos. We discussed lighting and explored compositional techniques and backgrounds. B...y the end of the day, the girls seemed much more comfortable with their gear and were looking forward to their next photographic assignment. I'm really keen to provide coaching to the media and PR industry around Brisbane and The Gold Coast as not only does it provide clients with a better knowledge of photography but may also reduce the company's need to employ professional photographers for more simple jobs. 01.01.2022 Had an awesome time photographing the Robina Roos girls Div 2 Rainbow Day AFL match at Robina last Saturday. The girls really enjoyed themselves and despite getting a bit of a touch-up to the Surfers Paradise girls they all seemed to be having a good time. Great to see them out their doing it.

01.01.2022 There’s still time to launch into the next Photo Coach Four-Week-Workshop beginning on Sunday. Don’t miss out. https://www.thephotocoach.com.au/four-week-workshop/
