25.01.2022 Coccydynia literally a pain in the butt, or tail bone for that matter! Coccydynia is a condition of pain and tenderness about the tail bone worsened by prolonged sitting, standing from a seated position, stairs or constipation. The coccyx or better known as our tailbone, acts as an attachment site for our pelvic floor muscles and helps to support our pelvic cavity. As a result most coccydynia cases are bought on by pregnancy and childbirth, however a direct fall onto your ...butt can also cause injury. Womens Health Physiotherapists can help to treat coccydynia and help promote a health pregnancy and post partum recovery. The following tips can help manage your symptoms: - Icing for 15mins to reduce pain and inflammation - Managing constipation - Correct sitting position on the toilet to encourage the pelvic floor to relax when opening your bowels - Gentle stretches/ massage of muscles around the pelvis - Correct sitting posture with neutral spine. Remember help is out there for this condition, you don’t have to put up with it and ‘hope’ it will go away. Contact the clinic today for appointment. #womenshealth #coccydyinia #tailbone #choosephysio #rehab #exercise #pregnancy #postpartum #backpain #paininthebutt #thephysiospacebowral #embracewomenshealthphysiotherapy #tpsbowral #southernhighlands

24.01.2022 Over weekend, Nicole completed the Abdominal Wall and Diastasis course @physioclinic_education in Bondi Junction. The course extends our current knowledge of anatomy, function and rehabilitation of the abdominal wall in our post natal mums with Real Time Ultrasound skills. Real Time Ultrasound allows physio's to measure the distance between the abdominal muscles, assess the tone and quality of muscle and fascial.tissue, assess and train activation and function of the abdomi...nal wall, all with live feedback on the screen for patients too! If you need help with your post-natal recovery or are concerned with your tummy post baby, contact us today, its never to late to start your recovery. #postnatal #tummyseparation #realtimeultrasound #abdominals #postnatalrecovery #embracewomenshealthphysio #tpsbowral #Repost @physioclinic_education (@get_repost) Inter-recti distance. Measured under Real Time Ultrasound. It’s a skill. A great skill. A helpful assessment tool and outcome measure. Thanks to @dianeleept and #paulhodges research, we understand the concept of Tension and how it relates to inter-recti distance. Did you know under real time ultrasound if we see the inter-recti distance stay the same or get slightly wider during a task, we can be almost certain transversus abdominus is doing its job, and creating tension on the linea alba before the task is executed.

16.01.2022 Heel pain can be a common complaint from our kids, especially with an increase in sporting activities. Kids who are undergoing growth spurts can be especially susceptible to heel pain starting at age 8 until around age 13 for girls and age 15 for boys. Often the source of the pain is the growth plate of the heel bone. The good news is that kids are good healers, and treatment may be simple if it is done quickly.... School and Summer sports will be commencing soon - here are a few tips to prevent heel pain from developing: always wear supportive shoes avoid re-using old shoes for new sports never skip a warm up or cool down exercise, especially when sports call for explosive sprints that pull quickly on tendons. engage in stretching and strengthening exercises for the calves (check out the pic above) ensure kids are doing sport all year long to maintain fitness/ prevent deconditioning Several things should tip parents off that their child needs attention, including limping, complaining of pain, walking on toes and pain the morning after a game/ training. If heel pain persists, contact our clinic today on 4861 1223 to book an appointment with one of our physiotherapists. #physiotherapy #heelpain #kidsphysio #growthspurt #growingbodies #preventinjury #schoolshoes #sportshoes #stretching #warmup #cooldown #nestchildrensphysiotherapy #thephysiospacebowral

16.01.2022 Today our team welcomed Dr. Tom Cross, Sports Medicine Doctor @stadiumsportsmedicine and the current Head Doctor at the Sydney Swans to the clinic via zoom. Dr. Cross presented on Acute ACL injuries and some new conservative, non-surgical treatment pathways for ACL rehabilitation. The traditional routes following an ACL injury are reconstructive surgery or non-surgical exercise based rehabilitation. Dr. Cross and his team are conducting new resesrch trials on specific braci...ng protocols immediately after acute ACL injury as a strategy to heal the ACL ligament without surgical input, with promising results thus far. Thank you Dr. Cross for your presentation, we thoroughly enjoyed it! Here at the Physio Space our team is dedicated staying up to date with the latest research and evidence based practice, so that we can provide trusted, high quality and a modern approach to physiotherapy management. 15.01.2022 Over the break Nicole tuned into the Levator Ani (Pelvic Floor) Injury Webinar to keep updating her skills and knowledge in Women’s Health and Post-Partum Care. Pelvic Floor injury can happen during childbirth, and can range from mild to severe in some cases. Physiotherapist’s with Women’s Health training can assess and manage such injuries in the precious post-partum period, starting with a 6-week post-natal check. Forceps assisted delivery is strongly associated as an inc...reased risk factor for pelvic floor injury, with Friedman et al 2019 reporting 6.94 odds ratio vs an unassisted vaginal delivery. Other risk factors for pelvic floor injury include, longer second stage of labour (>90mins), higher birth weights (>4kg) and increased maternal age. If you have recently had a baby, even within the last 12 months, and would like to book in for a Women’s Health Assessment contact our clinic on (02) 4861 1223. Women’s Health Consults are available at our Bowral clinic on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. #embracewomenshealthphysiotherapy #womenshealth #postpartum #recovery #birth #pelvicfloor #postnatalphysio #6weekcheck #newmum #baby #awareness #continuingeduction #thephysiospacebowral #southernhighlandsNSW
