14.01.2022 Coming out of COVID-19 // Nail your training . With restrictions likely easing in the next few weeks, now is a great time to consider a few factors related to your training, before returning to the gym or team sport. . 1) High load training: Working out from home for the past couple of months without access to heavier weights or competition, your level of strength and fitness with less high load training has likely tapered off a little, so dont expect to go straight back to ...a PB. . 2) Dont go crazy: Think of returning to gym/sport as if youre returning from injury. Dont jump straight back in, build up slowly. Eg: dont do morning and night double sessions at the gym on the same day in the first week back. Even though you're keen and want to hit it hard, start light and you'll reduce the chances of injury. . 3) Progressive planning: Over the first few weeks back to training make a plan to build gradually. Your body will be able to better adapt to your training loads if you increase the volume slowly and dont overdo it. This will improve your conditioning base, reduce the risk of injury and allow you to make bigger gains in the medium term. . 4) Continue with your iso program: If you were doing yoga, pilates or HIIT body weight exercises from home, keep doing them. Once back to the gym or sport your body will get a different stimulus from those newer activities, but that doesnt mean you have to drop all the other good stuff. . 5) Hydrate! Keep those mucosal membranes lubricated to help fight infection. . #fitness #training #s&c #getexcited physio #sportsphysio #injuryprevention #strengthtraining #progressiveoverload #loadmanagement See more

10.01.2022 We miss being in the Studio, but look forward to coming back very soon . Well done to all for doing your bit for SA as we #stayhome to #stopthespread. We know this will be a tough time for a lot of people, keep supporting each other and look out for your mates and loved ones, near and far. . We always try to find the positives in any situation, so for some of our clients a little 6 day break from training will be a good thing for those niggling injuries. For others, you’ll h...ave time to knuckle down on your home rehab exercises. . For many people though, staying active during these next few days will be really important for physical and mental health. Get creative as you keep #moving at home. If you don’t have any equipment, think outside the square; set yourself a mini body weight circuit, do an online workout, powerwalk laps of the backward, stretch, breathe, skip, hop, balance.. whatever it may be, it’ll be great to be MOVING. . Stay well and please let us know if you need anything. We can’t wait to see you back at The Physio Studio, hopefully very soon. . . #physio #health #exercise #sportsphysio #recovery #support #community #oneforall #adelaidephysio See more

07.01.2022 Sporty Kids || There are many factors to consider when dealing with sports injuries in young people. Understanding how they differ to adults in the way that injury can present and recover is key. . Identifying overtraining and overuse injuries in kids is particularly important to ensure they can continue to be healthy, enjoy their sport and maintain an active lifestyle for the long term. . What are some of the possible signs of overtraining in young people? - It may be t...he subtle things you notice in your kids; Feeling over-tired Poor sleep patterns Mood changes Reduced appetite Reduced concentration or motivation Decline in performance or increase in fatigue Persistent minor injuries or illness . If these signs have coincided with an increase in the amount of training/games they have been undertaking, it could be an indication of overtraining, and reassessing their training volume and rest/recovery strategies may be worthwhile. . #sportykids #adolescentathletes #bonehealth #health #physio #sportsphysio #lifetimefitness See more

03.01.2022 YOUR ERGOGENIC AID Most athletes love their coffee but are they also drinking it to aid their performance? Well turns out caffeine ingestion can have a small but significant effect on muscle strength and power as well as a moderate effect on aerobic capacity and muscle endurance. ... Research shows the optimally dosage for the greatest benefits are from 3-6mg/kg of body mass. Higher doses can cause some side effects including anxiety, insomnia and high blood pressure. Caffeine should generally be ingested 45-60 minutes before exercise. The mechanism behind its effect involve caffeine binding to adenosine receptors which can reduce the effects of fatigue and enhance performance. There are some people that dont respond well to caffeine so its important to experiment on yourself to see what works best for you. Here at TPS we love our coffee and are blessed to have so many amazing local cafes serving delicious coffee.
