25.01.2022 Anita Collins explains the fireworks that go off in musicians' brains when they play, and examines some of the long-term positive effects of this mental workout.

25.01.2022 A great article about the problems with today's exam culture in music and something that I've always believed and addressed in my own teaching. Whilst music exams have many benefits, the problems arise when students spend the greater part of the year working on 3 or 4 pieces for a graded exam which they eventually forget when they start preparing for the next grade. This results in students having nothing to play between exams and a lack of solid repertoire in addition to poor sight-reading and musicianship skills. This can be solved in various ways, a personal favourite of mine being weekly study pieces as outlined by Fitch in this article.
