18.01.2022 On the COs tour of the AO, Corporal Leonard Tex Oliver was presented the Army Silver Commendation for his exceptional achievement as the Training Corporal for A Troop, 1 Squadron, The Pilbara Regiment. A Troop is located in Newman, Western Australia, in the remote and harsh Pilbara region, which is characterised by its extreme heat in summer, lack of services enjoyed elsewhere in many parts of Australia and vast distances between communities and other Regimental locations.... His engagement with the local communities of Newman, Jigalong and Meekatharra have significantly increased indigenous recruitment and the capability of The Pilbara Regiment. The respect he has fostered, and the relationships he has nurtured within the Indigenous communities of Jigalong and Meekatharra have been significant, all whilst recruiting, training and preparing his soldiers for operational deployment. His efforts are directly and individually responsible for the successful conduct of the Australian Army Community Aid Program for 2019 in Jigalong. #ThePilbaraRegiment #ClosingtheGap

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have long served Australia during times of peace and war. Their cultures and our shared histories are a fundamental part of our national identity. The theme for NAIDOC Week 2020 is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’. This theme recognises that Aboriginal and Torres S...trait Islander people have lived and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years, and are deeply spiritually and culturally connected to land on which we operate. Locally, Pilbara Regiment soldiers from Regimental Headquarters, Operational Support Squadron and C Troop, 1 Squadron paid their respects at the Flag Raising Ceremony in the City of Karratha as part of official celebrations of NAIDOC Week 8-15 November.
