24.01.2022 Did you know we are currently in Fire Danger Period? Fire Danger Period, or FDP, is when the CFA restricts the use of fire within the community to help prevent ...fires from starting. FDP effects people who live in regional and outer metropolitan like Mt Eliza. CFA declares FDP when they believe there is a greater danger of fire. This year FDP came into place on the 14th of December for the Mornington Peninsula Shire. Once the FDP has been declared, fire restrictions come into force. This means you cannot light a fire in the open air unless you have a permit or comply with certain requirements. If you don't obtain a permit, you could be breaking the law and may be prosecuted. Total Fire Bans are different to the Fire Danger Period. A Total Fire Ban Day can be declared at any time throughout the year. No fires are to be lit in the open air on Total Fire Ban Days unless you have a special permit. Below are some ‘Can I or Can’t I?’ cards that explain what can and can’t be done during FDP and on Total Fire Ban Days.

06.01.2022 We came across some local real estate news from 42 years ago.

03.01.2022 We've introduced a new Trust for Nature rate giving landholders a discount of 65 per cent on their rates for the area of land covenanted. Only 30 per cent of... remnant native vegetation remains on the Peninsula. The majority of this important habitat is found on private property and private landowners play a critical role in conserving local biodiversity. Trust for Nature’s conservation covenant program enables landholders to permanently protect native vegetation on their own properties. Do you want to help conserve our unique natural environment and protect habitat for our local plants and animals? Find out how you can place a covenant on your land mornpen.vic.gov.au/trustfornature

02.01.2022 The Victorian Government released more FAQs for Stage 4 restrictions today. For the 1 in 4 Victorians living in strata titled complexes (apartments, townhouses... etc.) the pandemic restrictions have presented unique challenges. Can I access common areas if I'm in quarantine or isolation? Will someone in the complex, or someone who manages the complex be able to assist me? What are the rules on tradespeople and workers visiting the building? DHHS has released a useful guide to mutli-unit living during COVID-19 - https://bit.ly/2PHTeiw - and we await release of their updated guide. For now, for more information more specific to owners corporations, committees and rules relating to strata, visit the SCA (Vic) COVID-19 website here: https://www.vic.strata.community/vic-covid-19
