21.01.2022 Do you want to know the best feeling in the world for a Graphic Designer? Picture this, you pour your heart and soul into a design, attach it to an email and hit send. Then begins the anxious wait for the client to reply. And when they do, and they love what you’ve done... I tell you... it’s a design high! Almost euphoric (maybe I need to get out more?) I can't take all the credit though! This wonderful client put together an amazing brief. She had researched her ideal c...lient, and really nailed her brand voice! Top Marks!! Then when it came to design, I knew what I needed to do. With a good brief, delivering a successful design should be a breeze! 20.01.2022 I feel HUMAN today and the hole in my heart is slightly smaller. It might have something to do with some amazing friends, washing my hair and @sianmattjacobs waxing my crazy eyebrows! My other puppy is getting so much love she doesn’t know what to do with herself. scroll to see her trying to jump into my arms Work wise - am booked up through September but taking bookings for October, get on it #perthcreatives #graphicdesignerperth #adobeillustrator #illustrator #instagramart #graphicartist #instart #graphicdesign #manipulation #digitalartist #graphicdesigner #adobe #digitaldesigner #logodesigner #thebrandingcollective #visualidentity #logo #digitaldesign #perthgirlbossess #visualcommunication #perthbusiness #perthbusinesses

20.01.2022 Let’s talk creative burnout. Yes it’s a thing. When you are under pressure to perform as a creative every day it can be mentally exhausting, and if left to fester you can start getting creative block. So just like a muscle, it needs rest and recovery So, I arrived back from a mini break yesterday. I took all my camera gear up with every intention to take some amazing photos and edit them with my laptop. Half way into the holiday my friend said, why haven’t you taken phot...os yet? The truth was, I just needed time away from a screen, I even left my phone in my room a lot of the time. Luckily my mate is a gem with taking photos otherwise I wouldn’t have many! @samanthab_pt Acknowledging to myself that I needed that time did me a world of good. So, what can we do to prevent creative burnout? Here’s what works for me... and I would love to hear what works for you! Take some time off. Calm your mind. I find yoga flow with meditation works for me. I have had some cracker logo ideas while doing yoga Sleep well. Sleep allows for you to heal your mind and body. I have always been a terrible sleeper and have recently discovered melatonin. Consume good food and limit alcohol. When I drink alcohol, (I do enjoy a vino!) it impacts my mind greatly for a couple of days and I get brain fog so it’s good to have a little break every now and then. Surround yourself with likeminded people who leave your heart feeling full. Reflect on why you do what you do and why and how being a creative is part of who you are. Much love #graphicdesign #designer #perthdesigner #perthbusiness #perthbusinesses #creativeburnout #branding #visualidentity #brandingidentity #adobe #adobecreativesuite #consistencyiskey #creative #growyourbrand #marketing #marketingperth #girlboss #perthgirlbosses #logodesign #creativityquote #designquote

18.01.2022 Boo!! What is Scope creep? Sounds ominous doesn’t it? Put simply, it’s when a project becomes way larger than you quoted or expected, it creeps up on you and before you know it, bam.... you’re banging your head on your desk when you realise you are hours over your estimated time. In the design industry it happens when there are multiple changes or revisions that take a lot more time than what you have quoted for. So why does it happen? Well.. Unfortunately a majority of... people don’t place a huge value on services. Most of the time it’s not intentional at all. Why? Because when you don’t receive a tangible product that you can feel and touch, it’s really hard to measure the worth. The services industry is basically someone’s time and knowledge, and essentially you pay more for someone's experience. So when it comes down to revisions and changes it needs to be made clear that time = money. So here are some simple steps to prevent scope creep. Like I always say, prevention is the best way!! Before you quote, ask for brief. If the client can’t give you full details at that stage, that’s ok, you don’t want to scare them away. You can quote with what information you have, but explain that this is an estimate/ballpark and once you have more details you can give more of a firm quote. When you submit a quote, explain that it comes with X many revisions and in the case of ‘change of scope’ the job will need to be re-priced. This sets clear boundaries and it also shows you are a professional who knows their shiz-nit. Lastly - be firm. If you find that you are going above and beyond what you quoted and you are feeling uncomfortable, put your hand up and tell your client. Most of the time they have no idea of how much time these things take, after all, you are the professional, they don’t know how you do your job. They only see the end result. If you are clear from the start, this shouldn’t be a problem and they will come to the party. Peace

17.01.2022 What does this saying mean to YOU both personally and professionally? While you are letting that swirl around in your noggin, let’s draw some connections to this quote and branding. ‘Owning the space you occupy’ in a branding sense, is about being unequivocally, unapologetically authentic and not willing to waver or compromise on your brand identity. If I had to choose one word it would be CONFIDENCE. Please don’t mistake it for arrogance or not being willing to be f...lexible about growth or change, after all, a brand does develop and evolve over time... b What does this saying mean to YOU both personally and professionally? While you are letting that swirl around in your noggin, let’s draw some connections to this quote and branding. ‘Owning the space you occupy’ in a branding sense, is about being unequivocally, unapologetically authentic and not willing to waver or compromise on your brand identity. If I had to choose one word it would be CONFIDENCE. Please don’t mistake it for arrogance or not being willing to be flexible about growth or change, after all, a brand does develop and evolve over time... but it is about believing in your brand voice. ... Have the numbers, distractions and day to day stresses made you lose sight of your brand identity? If so, you’re not alone, you might just need a little nudge to get back on track. Think back to why you started your business. Do you remember the passion and excitement you felt? Next, remind yourself of the VALUE you offer your patronage and what makes your business UNIQUE. Then, nail down 3-5 keywords that can become your brand pillars, add them to sticky notes, write them on your mirror.. tattoo them on your forehead if you have to. Once you have reaffirmed your brand voice you can start to occupy your own special space in your market where you can showcase your unique offering. In time, and with consistency your brand will start to exude a beautiful confidence, your ideal clients will sense this and their confidence in you will began to grow too .. and isn’t that the ultimate goal, consumer confidence? So, when shiny things pop up in your newsfeed like a new colour trend or a competitors online sale.. tell yourself to STOP and then ask yourself ‘if I implement this, am I being authentic and is this in line with my brand pillars’ if the answer is no... Best to give it a miss. So over to you.. what does this quote mean to you? Clear as mud? Maybe not? Don’t worry I’m here for YOU! If you have any questions about branding please DM me and I am happy to help!

16.01.2022 I know a problem for many creatives is to overthink every single detail of your design. This can be a good thing as it shows your attention to the small details and a passion for your work BUT on the flip side, overthinking too much is time consuming and it holds up the approval process. Running a successful design business means that you must make decisions quickly so you can move onto the next project or meet deadlines. There is no room for self doubt, time is money! Desi...gn with confidence, usually your first instinct was usually the right choice. #graphicdesign #designer #perthdesigner #perthbusiness #perthbusinesses #australiandesign #branding #visualidentity #brandingidentity #designquote #adobecreativesuite #consistencyiskey #consistency #growyourbrand #marketing #marketingperth #girlboss #perthgirlbosses #logodesign #artwork #ilovetodesign

15.01.2022 Let’s talk protection... for design and business. Get your mind outta the gutter! l have seen a few posts on business pages about clients going MIA without paying for their designs AND those clients have been caught actually using those designs too! Jeebus!!! Worst. friggin. nightmare. So, as they say in year 9 sex ed, (if you were paying attention) PREVENTION is the best method of protection. Here are some tips on stopping this happening to you ... This can be used fo...r a lot of other service industries too. Here goes: When quoting a job for a new client, be CLEAR on your terms. Advise that you require a deposit before the works start and that you will need the full invoice settled before the design files are released. This is setting clear expectations of how you operate before the works start so no one is misled or disappointed. Send all designs in flat jpgs, don’t send vector files. Do not send artwork in vector until the job is approved and paid, you are sending your editable artwork otherwise. A PDF can be opened in Illustrator. Just sayin Password protect your PDF’s. If you must send a PDF due to working on a multi page document, add a password protection to it. That stops anyone being able to open your design in other programs. Add a copyright disclaimer line to the bottom of your work. ‘All works are your intellectual property until paid for in full.’ A polite and subtle reminder can’t hurt and is usually expected. Add that disclaimer to your email footer as well. Useful tip - include a note about the client being responsible for checking all details before approval. If I had a dollar for the amount of times I have been sent a wrong phone number or info, I’d have a lot of dollazzz. It happens to the best of us. Watermark your work. This is not my favourite thing to do and my absolute last resort. It can dilute the aesthetic of your design but if you are extremely nervous about it then it’s an option as another layer of protection. If you are a photographer, then this is actually your FIRST step of protection. Eventually, after trust is built with your client, you can slowly let down your guard. Remember trust goes both ways.

11.01.2022 You know that old saying, a plumbers taps are always leaking? Well that most definitely applies to me! I consume myself with helping clients build their brands that my own brand really got put on the back burner. Is this you too? PLUS I always harp on about how important it is to have professional and RECENT photography so why don’t I take my own advice?! The photos on my website (which I still loved) were 2.5 years old and I really felt like I had outgrown them and they d...idn’t reflect where I am now in my career. I have been thinking about a shoot for about a year so...I finally did it!! It helped also that I found a talented photographer who just got me, and understood my brand and what my brief was. So just wanted to say a big thank you to @zoeclairephotos for your amazing work. You captured everything I asked for! Also to @bylesharnebeauty for the amazing makeup and to @theparentingedit_ for being my ‘mock client’ and hype queen! Check out my website for some more photos - link in bio! 08.01.2022 Getting a start in the design industry is hard, it’s a tough and competitive industry to crack. My journey was unorthodox but I feel I was always destined to be a creative. So here’s a brief little story on how I got my start. I promise it’s not too long! I graduated school (studying TEE art and art & design of course) and chose to go to central TAFE. I was devastated that I didn’t get into uni after missing a chunk of year 12 due to glandular fever. I drowned in my exams,... like really bad. I thought uni was the be all and end all and I was totally bummed. So anywho, while at TAFE my lecturer put me forward for an interview at Tangibility and I got the the job out of a handful of hopefuls. Side note: they asked me how I felt about remuneration, and I said ‘what’s that?’ yes I know... job interview FAIL . I’d literally never heard that word before. Well I hadn’t even finished my Diploma but started working for @team_tangi in Applecross and making the commute from Currambine every day. From there I showed a keen eye for design so my bosses put me through some training. I later moved on to another marketing company as a junior designer and after 3 months by pure luck I became their lead designer! I was 23 by then. After having my daughter at 25 I decided the agency life (and the commuting) wasn’t for me, I had already gained a few freelance clients and they were excited to know I could give them more time! Business GREW, like a lot, from there! Fast forward to today (I’m not telling you my age now hahaha) and I have a beautiful array of clients and I get to do what I love, from home, every single day and I’m so grateful. AND moral of the story > uni isn't everything. I have not been asked ONCE in 10 years what degree I have, my clients have always judged me on my work. The best designers I know have also had other training outside of uni, so please do not give up! How did you get your start in your profession?? Comment and let me know #graphicdesign #designer #perthdesigner #perthbusiness #perthbusinesses #australiandesign #branding #visualidentity #brandingidentity #adobe #adobecreativesuite #consistencyiskey #designindustry #tafe #marketing #marketingperth #girlboss #perthgirlbosses #logodesign #artwork #ilovetodesign

03.01.2022 It’s true. So I am taking a little time to heal over the next few days, I’ll still be in the office but I’m just going to cut some of my days a bit shorter. I really did underestimate how traumatic the whole experience of him being taken away would be so I need to take some time to get my mind right and spend time with my daughter. Leading up to this I had a lot of other stresses and add this loss in too and it has just thrown me for 6 and my body has gone a little haywire. I’m ok, and not looking for sympathy I just want to communicate with all my clients so you understand where I’m at. If you are worried about your deadlines please send me a text and we can sort something out much love Also side note: if you are struggling or feeling overwhelmed, PLEASE know it is OK to take some time to get yourself right. We are only human

03.01.2022 Important notice!! I’m actually having a day off, (what?! Stop the press!!) follow The Pink Tank stories on insta to see what I have planned

02.01.2022 New brand alert I finalised this logo design this week this colour combo and design was agreed upon by a focus-group of the target demographic and was chosen as the majority winner scroll for some other options that were presented #perthcreatives #graphicdesignerperth #adobeillustrator #illustrator #logodesign #graphicartist #logodesignperth #graphicdesign #manipulation #digitalartist #graphicdesigner #adobe #digitaldesigner #logodesigner #thebrandingcollective #visualidentity #logo #digitaldesign #perthgirlbossess #visualcommunication #perthbusiness #perthbusinesses

02.01.2022 A prospectus completed for the Hume region in Victoria. I actually love these kind of jobs, it adds diversity to my services. For example my day today goes like this... designed stationery set for an electrical company... finalised this govt prospectus finishing a logo for a wellness company design a poster for a PT finish some signage for a blinds company then onto editing a photography job ordering uniforms and merch for a client (Plus quoting and I’m sure there is more haha!) It keeps it interesting, because I’m never working on the same thing! Maybe that is why I never get bored of my work. So bloody grateful. #graphicdesign #designer #perthdesigner #perthbusiness #perthbusinesses #australiandesign #branding #visualidentity #brandingidentity #shopify #lightingales #consistencyiskey #consistency #growyourbrand #marketing #marketingperth #girlboss #perthgirlbosses #logodesign #artwork #prospectus
