21.01.2022 CLOSING THIS SUNDAY Opened this vast space in Dec 2013 with a vision to source great local produce and house-make nourishing foods embracing super foods and the zen & simplicity of Japanese flavours. Along with produce and flavours, The Place introduced into this neighbourhood the quirkiness and fun of Japanese art and street culture with Ghibli Studio art being featured inside. During 2014 we led a jointly funded public art installation with the City of Darebin and one of A...pparition Media's first commercial works- the whole north side of the external building with original art and characters inspired by Japanese pop-culture. Our hero - Chotto and his story - the "Epic Journey to Castle Mountain" on the trip we see Fido... In 2014 we launched the baked Wholegrain donut, this hit the market way before the Melbourne donut trend and it has been much appreciated by a legion of fans. Welcoming story time adults and little people into our place was great fun each week as we love coffee and culture (stories) to merge in this great space. And on and on we go regaling stories of creativity and endeavour to make something fabulous from very little resource. We thank you lovely customers, friends and neighbours for visiting regularly and appreciating our inspired teams and nourishment in terms of food, coffee, friendship, peace and art. REINVENTION & REOPENING Alas our journey on this sight will pause for a few months as it will be completely re-invented from the inside out and a new more fabulous venue will reopen - permits permitting, during winter. See you 'round for a great coffee, a glass of wine and some happy repartee celebrating our great city and how it keeps reinventing itself inspired by coffee.
