11.01.2022 Tillandsia intermedia One of the lesser known but most curious Tillandsia species, T. intermedia is an essential for an air plant enthusiast. One of very few tills that can not only grow upside down, but also produces pups on the inflorescence, growing into a daisy chain-like formation with age. It’s well suited to a bright indirect position indoors, and a bit of direct morning sun is an added bonus. It also grows wonderfully in sunny positions, or outdoors year round in a da...ppled to part sun, semi protected spot. During warmer months (active growing season), mist daily and either soak or shower once a week or so for full hydration. During winter a generous mist every other week or so should be sufficient. Humidity is required, frequent regular misting during hot summers is greatly appreciated. Fertilise during the active growing season using a liquid fertiliser. Apply at 1/4 label recommended dilution rate applying once a month or so in with watering schedule. During a flowering season, maintain the dilution rate and increase frequency to roughly every 2-3weeks. Alternatively use a tillandsia specific fertiliser as per label instructions.

08.01.2022 Ficus elastica ‘burgundy’ Reasonably hardy and very tolerant of the occasional missed watering, these plants are often mistaken for being fussy. Whatever happens at the start, they’re absolutely worth it in the long run. While rubber figs are well suited to a bright indirect position indoors, they do best with some direct morning sun, anywhere from a couple hours right up until just after lunch. Afternoon sun can be tolerated from a distance, and medium light spots are tolera...ted also. During warmer months (active growing season), allow the soil to dry out around 1/2 way before watering again. During winter let the soil dry out completely before next watering. Humidity not required, but a mist in warmer weather will be beneficial. Leaves will go soft to the touch and wilt if the plant desperately needs a drink, followed by leaf drop occurring from prolonged draught. Best to soak the plant in this case to help it properly rehydrate. Fertilise during the active growing season using a liquid fertiliser. Apply at 1/4 label recommended dilution rate applying weekly in with watering schedule.
