During this stage early life experiences will influence how your puppy will communicate, play and learn as they continue into their adulthood. You will notice our classes have different size puppies, it’s important that all puppies are socialised around different breeds and sizes to develop positive social skills. Our trainer only recommends using positive reinforcement techniques to ensure your puppy stays positive throughout their development. How long does puppy school run for? Puppy school runs for 4 weeks for approximately 1 hour. Get in touch with us to find out when the next class starts What will my puppy learn during these 4 weeks? Puppy school is not only about properly socialising your puppy it’s also about educating the family on how to troubleshoot any undesired behaviours you may be experiencing. 11.01.2022 **Private lessons now open **I have been a Veterinary nurse for 10+ years with experience in both General practice and Emergency, critical care. My passion for canine behaviour has guided families and their pets for the last 9 years. My love for dog training started at just 13 years of age with my first Border collie Bailey who developed me into the trainer I am today. I take pleasure in all canine behaviour but possess a great love for helping owners through the initial fu...ndamental stages of puppy development. I have now decided to offer private lessons to help families through the first night of owning a puppy or simply giving support through the crucial first few weeks. Your private lessons are conducted by an experienced veterinary nurse within your own home or controlled environment (park) for puppies who are fully vaccinated. 8-16 weeks of age is the essential time of your puppy’s life. During this stage they will learn vital communication and socialisation skills within a controlled environment. During this stage early life experiences will influence how your puppy will communicate, play and learn as they continue into their adulthood. Positive reinforcement techniques are used to ensure your puppy stays positive throughout their development. How long are the lessons? Private lessons can run anywhere between 60-90 minutes depending on your individual needs. Just like humans we need practice to excel at something therefore, the more time you spend training your puppy the more consistent they learn. At a young age we only suggest spending 10-15 minutes at a time training your puppy to keep the experience positive. What age does my puppy have to be? Please contact me to discuss this further. My lesson write ups are based on puppies 8-20 weeks. What can we learn in private lessons? - educating the family on how to troubleshoot any undesired behaviours you may be experiencing - Calming and handling techniques - How a puppy learns and develops How to trouble shoot challenging puppy behaviours such as; - Biting - Jumping - Hyper-activity - Separation behaviours/crying when left alone Advice and training techniques on; - Toilet training - Lead walking - Socialisation - Crate training - Nutrition - Preventative care - What to do in an emergency situation Basic manners and training cues; - Clicker training/positive reinforcement - Sit - Down - Wait - Basic lead walking - Recall training Please send me a message with your details, location, what you want out of your private lesson and your puppies breed and age. 09.01.2022 A look at the what is possible when you train a dog without physical or verbal corrections. Wouldn't it be nice of all dogs could know this kind of joy in training?

08.01.2022 Her first day at the beach was a success. We avoided the busier parts of the beach and made sure we were always aware of our surroundings. The key to keeping a young puppy safe at the beach is to be confident in reading canine body language and have a strong stable recall. This will help prevent and minimise your young one getting into any trouble.... I see a lot of young dogs that suffer from fear aggression due to issues that have arisen at the beach or dog park which could have been avoided with a recall and by understanding body language. TIP: Get a long recall lead if your unsure of how your dog will react/act in a new off lead environment. Don't let them off lead unless you know you can recall them back. Pack some yummy treats or your recall toy!

05.01.2022 Did you know? Chocolate is toxic to both dogs and cats! Chocolate is toxic because it contains an ingredient called themobromine, along with caffine. The ingestion of chocolate can result in significant illness.... Dogs cannot metabolize theobromine and caffeine as well as people can. This makes them more sensitive to the effects. The amount of toxic theobromine varies with the type of chocolate. The darker and more bitter the chocolate, the more dangerous it is to dogs. Clinical signs depend on the amount and type of chocolate ingested. For many dogs, the most common clinical signs are vomiting and diarrhea, increased thirst, panting or restlessness, excessive urination, and a racing heart rate. In severe cases, muscle tremors, seizures, and heart failure can be seen. If you think or know your dog has ingested chocolate we advise to call your veterinarian as soon as possible.

04.01.2022 Next puppy class is starting October 2017

02.01.2022 The tooth behind teething: Did you know? Puppies are born without teeth! During their first weeks of life they will start to develop their milk teeth. 28 sharp little teeth will be present between three to eight weeks of age. The next phase: By eight weeks of age the milk teeth will start to be pushed out by your puppies new adult teeth. This may be where you start to notice your puppy losing teeth. Adult teeth will replace the milk teeth but your puppy will also gain fourtee...n extra teeth! By seven months old the teeth process should be completed along with a total of fourty-two teeth. It's important to get your puppy accustomed to people looking at or touching their mouth so their teething process can be tracked. So your brand new shoes have been chewed! Your puppy will feel discomfort when their teeth cut through and you may notice the gums are inflamed. With this you may notice a change in your puppys mood. Your puppy will want to chew things to alleviate the pressure their new teeth so be prepared to find all items of importance in their mouth. It’s important to make certain your puppy isn't in danger as electrical cords/cables may be attractive to a teething puppy. Speak with your puppy trainer or veterinarian about what you can do to help your teething puppy. There are many different puppy teeth toys you can now purchase to help them through! If your puppy is caught with something he/she shouldn't have tell them "No" and replace this item with something they can have.
