16.01.2022 Did you see this story in the Sunday Mail? QTIC Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said some operators were fortunate that they were able to recoup lost bookings from local holidaymakers. Overall, it’s been a very busy summer so far and many of the bookings that have been lost have been reallocated, he said. ... However, he said Queensland could not rely on intrastate travel forever and needed to give interstate travellers confidence the state’s borders will not continually slam shut. Consumers are so nervous about holding on to the bookings they already have, let alone making new bookings, he said. We are hopeful the state government can hold its nerve or else we could see border closures shatter any sort of consumer confidence.

06.01.2022 Today QTIC Chief Executive, Daniel Gschwind met with Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Dan Tehan MP to make our case for struggling operators to be supported by the Commonwealth beyond the end of JobKeeper in March. Jointly with the Australian Tourism Industry Council, QTIC is very focused on emphasising the depth of the problem and urgency of the issue. We continue to appeal to both the State and Federal Governments to collaborate and work on sustaining a future for an industry that must be a part of the recovery. We are particularly interested to see support measures that allow operators to stay viable and importantly keep staff and their skills in place.
