23.01.2022 If you havent seen our truly magical, and tiny collection of childrens books then goodness youre in for a treat. There are childrens books that the dog chews and that get nappy cream and mashed apples gracefully smeared between the pages and then there are these... pieces of art masquerading as a book. The ones you buy extra copies of so you can give them to your children when they are adults to enjoy, or like me, to keep just because they are beautiful. @redpaperkite is a local publishing company bringing together international writers and artists to collaborate on these gems. These also make beautiful gifts for new babies. Have a peek next time youre in. 23.01.2022 This childrens Charcoal Art Class this morning was such a delight to teach. The enthusiasm, variety and skill was incredible. They learnt about shading, light, shadows, still life, and how paint is formed. Next week we start the Watercolour Class, but there will still be other Charcoal classes for those that want to continue or who miss a class. Places are available in our online shop. These classes will run on most Saturdays but not every Saturday so classes can be booked as individual segments. 22.01.2022 And we begin with this amazing piece by #johnbartelt - I love this. I.LOVE.this. Finding the joy in the tradition. Even if it’s just a star on a tree that has only been around since the Victorians - it’s still worth getting out of your chair for. I love the effort that they both put in for this little plastic star. Tradition, religion, hope. It doesn’t really matter. I read a lot into this, most would just laugh at it I know. Which is perfect too. This time of year isn’t eas...y for a lot of people, life is full of triggers isn’t it. For me too. But at this time of year I so often just see the good in people. Even with those who sometimes have nothing left to share. I remember really feeling the holiday spirit in New York, where I used to live. Covered in snow and the subway wet and grubby, and you’d hear a random happy holidays! from someone who clearly had it way tougher than most. And it stuck with me. Because I believe in magic. And people. And baubles. And yes I know I’m early to be starting this but I’ve waited since the start of November with a whopping great tree in the shop. 19.01.2022 A taste of something new... this Saturday night our second Gatherings live music event will have some beautiful local wine and beer being served. Candlelit, cosy and intimate - these events are a slightly different way to get lost in the music. Rather than a loud bar this feels like having a concert in your own house, well it sort of is - lets be honest. We had sold out - but weve had a couple of last minute cancellations. 2 yesterday and 1 today. Thats three tickets up for grabs if youd like them! 12.01.2022 I found this property while husband was away at work a couple of years ago. He missed our place in Portugal, and hes a farmer at heart. When I said I think Ive found something perfect - for both of us, I dont think he quite imagined Id have the front half and hed have the back. But it really was a gift. This is where he is his happiest. Birth of our first born v the first mango in his tree? It was close! Haha. 09.01.2022 It’s been a while since we had a big sort here and with so much coming up in 2021 we want to be ready. So we’re closing two days a week, to allow us to get all those jobs done which with two young children we just don’t have the time for. It also gives us some family time which 7 days a week does not. We’ve also had a few delays with paperwork and it’s meant we’ve had to postpone some of our new events but they’ll be ready soon! We have a new online booking system which makes your life and ours so much easier. So if you can, we ask that you book, but walk-ins are still welcome. While we are so sorry for the inconvenience it has also meant we get a bonus family day off, which when you’re open 7 days a week is a real gift. So we’re making lemonade out of this situation and off to enjoy the South West! Hoping our team doses up on cold medicine and stay wrapped up in bed.
