Well, originally Sinatra was cast to play the iconic role, but an injury he sustained while starring in The Manchurian Candidate prevented him from being able to star in the movie. Sinatra broke his finger while karate chopping a wooden table during the filming of The Manchurian Candidate. 06.01.2022 When most people think of Sammy Davis Jr, tough isnt the first attribute that comes to mind. Sammy was funny, smooth, and cool. But he was also probably the toughest of the Rat Pack. Sure, Dean and Frank grew up on some rough streets, and Sinatra especially had a reputation for getting his own way, but neither could lay claim to the levels of resilience and durability that Sammy Did. Even though he was a superstar, Sammy still faced racism and anti-Semitism on a regular b...asis. But he stood up for his rights, and the rights of others. But the best example of just how tough Sammy was occurred in 1954. A Cadillac backed out in front of him and Sammy couldnt avoid the collision. He sustained massive injuries to his face, including a broken nose and damage to his left eye so severe that it had to be replaced with a plastic one. Two weeks later, guess where Sammy was. Yep, you guessed it, he was on stage performing to his adoring fans.
