21.01.2022 "As part of our project for this term, the Rosellas have been working on creating a stronger sense of belonging for all the children, not only in the Rosella room but also in the entire Center. We have been focusing on our Welcome to Country in the mornings, sitting in a circle, and learning the words and actions to songs. During this time we thank the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander People for the land we live on. The children also use this opportunity to be thankful ...for other things within their life and environment. The children have been making footprints with the Aboriginal flag colours. These will be displayed as a mural in the middle room. This symbolises "leaving our footprint" within the Ranges environment. We have also been collecting photos of the children doing the Welcome to Country and individual photos. These are being displayed in the middle room and used during group time in the "Name Game" song. This song helps the children to introduce not only themselves but also recognize and identify their peers. This will continue to help in developing a strong sense of belonging for the children."

19.01.2022 In the nursery, we are embedding Aboriginal and Indigenous experiences in our daily practices. The children and educators sit together before morning tea and recite a Welcome to Country and then sing Heads & Shoulders in Kaurna. We have been reading lots of Indigenous stories, exploring native Australian animals, and using wooden shakers and tapping sticks during our music experiences.

14.01.2022 The Pre-Toddler Herb Garden The Pre-Toddlers have been working hard on nurturing their herb garden. Learning how to transfer the plants from pots to the garden bed. The educators are supporting the children in exploring the following questions ...why the plants need water, sun and shade, how we can eat some plants but not others, why do they have different smells, feels, colours and a life cycles. At The Ranges we reckon it is important for children to be supported in gaining strategies for active exploration, thinking and reasoning through their play experiences. Through this learning experience, we are witnessing growth and development in the children's social skills, language, motor skills, empathy and a shift in how they view the world around them.

13.01.2022 Last week the very talented Megan Kerr Photography came to take our annual photos at the centres. We love being able to support local business as well as providing you the opportunity to have some beautiful photos of your children taken. We thought we would let you see some of what is happening the behind the camera at the ELC to get these shots

12.01.2022 In response to the Government's 6 Day Lockdown starting at midnight please be aware the centre will be open only to the children of "Essential Workers" from 19-24 November inclusive. We ask that you contact the centre VIA EMAIL if you will be sending your children to the centre over this time to assist us with our staffing.

11.01.2022 Lest we Forget On this Remembrance Day, 102 years since the end of WWI, we want to our future generations to learn and continue to honor those that sacrficed they lives in the line of duty or suffered for Australia's cause, in all wars and conflicts. Today our Preschool Children attended the Stirling RSL service to participate in this important day and to pay our respects by laying flowers at the memorial at the conclusion of the service. After the service we visited the RSL... Hall and were there to see a WWII veteran receive a certificate in honor of 75 since the end of that war and then enjoyed a picnic lunch on the lawns of the Library including the special treat of hot chips. We were very humbled to receive the thanks and praise from the RSL for bringing the children to the service and sharing this important day with them.

10.01.2022 This week are welcoming not only a new group of children from the ITC but today we had a couple of budgies arrive. They are called Kiwi and Zazu, named by the children after much rigerous debate. Our small group from the ITC have been settling in well thus far, even with a transition from parents at the foyer and not in the centre due to the COVID restrictions. Having the pets at the centre creates so many learnings around caring and having empathy for others as well as t...he responsibilities a pet comes with and the children have been very keen to meet them. Once we are able to welcome you back in the centre we hope you can come and say hello to Kiwi and Zazu too.

09.01.2022 There is currently no power at the ELC so you may find it difficult to contact us. Please leave a message with the ITC and they will pass it on to us. We will let you know when the power is restored.
