09.01.2022 An urgent message from our colleagues at ANUHD (Australian Network on Universal Housing Design) asking for urgent assistance to send out a survey through your networks. Dr Ilan Wiesel from the University of Melbourne sends this message: As you know, the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) has recently issued a Consultation Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) in relation to accessible housing, based on a cost-benefit analysis undertaken by the Centre for International Ec...onomics (CIE). A link to the RIA is below: Unfortunately, CIE concludes that the costs of regulating to set minimum standards for accessible housing would exceed the benefits and so is recommending continuation of the current voluntary code of practice. According to the Guidance Note on Cost-benefit analysis issued by Office of Best Practice Regulation in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, cost-benefit analysis should include a qualitative assessment. This has not been undertaken by CIE, notwithstanding the fact that the qualitative element is likely to have a very significant effect on the conclusions. Melbourne Disability Institute is therefore urgently undertaking a survey of for adults with any mobility limitation (including people with disability and older Australians), followed by interviews, to identify qualitative benefits to people with disability including improved quality of life, well-being and mental health outcomes and greater independence and empowerment. A link to the survey is here: https://melbourneuni.au1.qualtrics.com//form/SV_ai6nqENSX9 Due to the deadline set by the ABCB, we need this information by 26 August, at the latest and so I am asking that you circulate our survey - which is for adults with any mobility limitation including people with disability and older Australians - to your members urgently. If you require any further information, do not hesitate to get in touch with Dr Ilan Wiesel at University of Melbourne ([email protected]) Margaret Ward (+61 409 898498) David Brant (+61 402 540383 or +61 490 457 995) Convenors www.anuhd.org Accessibility is getting in the door; Diversity is being invited to the table; Inclusion is having a voice at the table; Belonging is when your voice is heard; Universal is everyone, everywhere, every time.

06.01.2022 Working hard to make sure equipment applications still get to the NDIA and people get their essential Assistive Technology as soon as they can. Reports are easy to do when in lockdown!

03.01.2022 NDIS-COVID19 technology: Are you following the useful ARATA members discussion? Make sure to check your emails or the listerve to keep up with developments. L...ibby Callaway has shared a useful template for justifying technology that was created at Monash. New NDIS policy is on the horizon - hear it all first as an ARATA member.
