23.01.2022 Great explanation of how you can obtain a iPad for Tele health through your NDIS plan.

23.01.2022 https://youtu.be/fLn_RJQ84AM This is a great vid explaining Alexithymia and how it affects relationships. In my practice I now run a series on improving interoception (understanding of our internal world). Evidence shows improving interoception improves alexithymia, which can then significantly improve quality of life. My training supports people who struggle in this area to learn to communicate their emotions with those around them, which in turn improves relationships.... If this is something you struggle with, please get in touch with me to discuss how I can help.

17.01.2022 October is ADHD awareness month. This is my favourite poem about ADHD, so well written.

17.01.2022 Still very much in the early stages. Hopefully taking clients from July. I’m a OT with 15 years experience across rehabilitation, mental health, paediatrics and disability. Currently only able to offer OT service but hope to grow to include other Allied health professionals such as Speech, Physio and Psych. Service will focus on Families, Neurodiversity, Functional assessments, SDA/SIL application, paediatric and mental health clients. NDIS experience but not c...urrently NDIS registered. Located in Pascoe Vale. Only able to offer out reach or Telehealth at this stage.

16.01.2022 We've all heard this before 'I'm cleaning all the time, I'm so OCD' or 'That thing being out of place bothers me, I'm so OCD'. There are several things wrong w...ith these statements. First, OCD is so much more than cleaning and tidying things. Second Obsessive-compulsive disorder is not who you are (it can feel like this though), it's something you have, there is so much more that shapes you. Also, these statements are incredibly insensitive. OCD turns your life upside down and people are tired of hearing these insensitive statements. OCD is an anxiety disorder characterized by uncontrollable, unwanted thoughts and ritualized, repetitive behaviors you feel compelled to perform. There are several forms of OCD like: Fear of germs and contaminating yourself and others, to cope with this fear you try to stay clean by washing and showering a lot and avoiding touching things that might be contaminated. Checking things because you are afraid that you or a loved one will be harmed or in danger if you don't. This can result in checking if you closed the door over and over or making sure you didn't leave the oven on. Fear of not doing something the right way, or thinking things you shouldn't think that result in trying to be perfect and making away thoughts that you think could harm you or someone else. An obsession with symmetry, numbers, arrangements, or something else. often accompanied by superstition and fear that something bad will happen if things aren't right. Hoarding - Not throwing things away, and buying things because it might be useful in the future, this can give a feeling of safety. I've tried to break this down as simple as possible, but in reality, OCD is a very complicated disorder and there can be an overlap in different kinds of obsessive behavior or overlap with different mental disorders. Because OCD can show up in so many forms I made 2 templates, one that you can fill in to show others what your OCD feels like, and an empty one that you can use for other things. If the symptoms you experience aren't talked about here it doesn't mean that your symptoms aren't valid, it's just that there are so many that I can't talk about them all. Did you learn something new about OCD today?

16.01.2022 https://www.elephantjournal.com//5-surprising-truths-abo/ A great read for any women with ADHD or suspect they have ADHD and struggle with their emotions.

14.01.2022 Such wise words re computer games. I love how he embraces the strength base model. If you don’t have his books I highly recommend them.

14.01.2022 This is so important, I love working with teenagers and find they respond so much better to a strengths model. They are tiered of hearing what’s wrong with them, instead they want to know how to use their strengths to find a positive pathway as they transition into adult life.

13.01.2022 Love this trick for show tying for anyone who finds this hard, or hard to teach.

13.01.2022 Great info about Sensory Processing Disorder.

11.01.2022 All the mums and dads stay strong we will get through this

10.01.2022 This is such a great tool to help kids learn to breath. sesame street.

10.01.2022 Love this from Action OT!! I personally sleep with a weighted blanket and love it. At first I used it for relaxing at night then after a few months started started using it at night.

10.01.2022 Great ideas below, we are also breaking down the school work into small tasks and using check lists to creat choice options and avoid boredom!!

08.01.2022 I love the Autistic OT’s approach here on suicide prevention. Autistic joy, what a great concept.

08.01.2022 My little OT dtr made her own print schedule cards without me even suggesting it!!! So proud !!

04.01.2022 As a dyslexic myself I find this very interesting. Dyslexia is a very broad concept often used without deeply looking at the cause of the reading disability. At 39 I found out I have ADHD, imagine if the clinician who diagnosed the dyslexia in my teens looked deeper to find the true cause. Then I would have been treated for a condition that not only affected my reading ability but my whole life.

03.01.2022 This is great information and important exceptions for children and families that need them.
