23.01.2022 1 baby echidna, 2 glorious sunsets and a hike to catch the sunrise on Lorna's 27th birthday It was a much-needed getaway from the office to celebrate, disconnect and explore one our finest islands in the Far North! We combined our birthday gifts together to spend 2 nights and 3 days chilling out. The highlights... we found the cutest echidna! When the FRICK did echidna's start living on Fitzroy Island?? Climbed to the peak to watch the sunrise, snorkelled among some of t...he healthiest corals (can't argue with a marine biologist doing her PHD on coral reefs), surprised her with a visit from my mum and sister... here come the cocktails, and ended with a fancy restaurant meal. We are pretty lucky to have this place only 45 minutes away from Explore Tropical North Queensland. Now it's on my mind... I'm itching to get back and capture a wedding on Fitzroy Island Resort, Queensland!
22.01.2022 I'm taking you back to 2018, the year my favourite portrait location was inside a dusty wooden shed. Thinking back... I'm not sure if Mel, the bride, enjoyed the idea of me jumping around to pick up all the dust on the floor I had a big brain idea that doing so would make the sunlight reflect on the dust in the air and create this wicked flare (as seen on the left). Sorry Mel! Here is a warning. When I get excited about amazing light and a beautiful bride... I might begin jumping around with excitement.
21.01.2022 Very cool! Pretty stocked to be part of the Hello May squad. Happy Fri-YaY fam
20.01.2022 Picnics. Perfect for engagement sessions, anniversaries, surprise proposals or celebrating your doggo's birthday! Any excuse for a picnic is a good excuse. I highly recommend them. Why? If you're feeling the first time nerves of having a photo session... tasty cheese, Italian salami and bottle of champagne helps with any anxieties you may have. I enjoy catching up with my couples, listening to their stories and build that 3rd wheel relationship. Let's just say this is one of... the best ways to start a photo sesh. Cheers to that Styling: The Collection Co MUA: Tropical Beauty- Cairns Hair and Makeup Artistry
19.01.2022 Teneille & Hayden (Tanksy) The Mareeba wedding I'd do all over again! A backyard reception and ceremony, bridal party picnic at Davies Creek, never-ending stream of espresso martinis and a couple that kept the photo session a little spicy. Before heading back to the party we found an open field used for harvesting hay... I was in heaven. Vendors... 19.01.2022 It was the environmentally conscious wedding with Tuscany vibes that made waves around Adelaide and featured in Hello May This blog is packed with inspo worthy pics ready for your mood board! The Woodburn Homestead ticked all the boxes. The open ceiling stone barn had Katie sold. It was the perfect place for her boho dream to come to life and it allowed doggos Lenny and Goose to roam freely. My favourite moments happened during the ceremony. It began when dog Lenny, also t...he ring bearer ran off with the rings. A simple 5-meter walk down the aisle turned into a run around the car park with vendors and guests chasing Lenny. Halfway through the ceremony, Katie noticed she had lost half her vowels. What followed was super candid moments, a few f-bombs and it broke the ice as all 80 guests burst with laughter. Near the end of their eventful ceremony, the celebrant pulled out a bottle of tequila for Katie and Matt to celebrate their love with a shot. Cheers to that! The ceremony was real and it goes to show nothing goes to plan at a wedding. 18.01.2022 We have just returned home from four days of total isolation and disconnection. No social media, internet, news or electronic devices. I originally planned this to prepare myself for the wedding season... It ended up being an escape from a pandemic. We spent our time reading, writing, hiking, meditating and practising Yoga. All that good stuff to clear the head. I created a thing called 'The Morning Grind' where I've invited a bunch of business owners to join me for group video chats every Monday morning. Our stay was definitely needed after spending a month stuck to our devices and consuming bad news.
17.01.2022 Madison and Jess preferred the just us experience. One celebrant, two guests (photographer & videographer) and themselves. Choosing to elope removed the stress of replanning and organising a new wedding date. They made their day 100% about them, their partner, and the experience together with no outside distractions or drama. We laughed together, explored the walking trails, and truly enjoyed each other’s company. Their love for each other was evident in every little detai...l - from the way they spoke to each other to how they reached out on reflex to grab each other’s hands while hiking. Looking back through these photos, I fall more in love with Tablelands and the endless beautiful hikes are perfect for adventurous elopements. 17.01.2022 When Ewan from Hudson Films and I decided to create an Elopement Package to cater for the COVID world we live in, we were happy to secure just one booking. That one booking came from Madison and Jess. Their original plan was a big Port Douglas wedding later in the year which eventually had to be postponed to 2021. Instead of going through the stress of reorganising and replanning, they felt by choosing to elope it gave them the chance to have a day that's closer to who they a...uthentically are as people. Madison and Jess had 100% trust in us to scout for locations and pick the perfect ceremony spot. We settled on Emerald Creek Falls and picked a time when the light would be the best. Oh boy... and did the light and sunset deliver! Everybody was on a high. The ceremony was touching, the bubbles were flowing and we spent the afternoon rock-hopping and watching the sunset. I want more! #blessed Vendor Squad Videographer: Hudson Films Celebrant: Creating Moments with Tammy Barker - Marriage Celebrant Makeup + Hair: Events Makeup and Hair Cairns
16.01.2022 When David turned around to me with the biggest smile on his face I knew Selina said "Yes!". It was pretty much impossible to hear a word David said when he got down on one knee. The waterfall was roaring, I was hyper-focused and nervous as hell. This was my first surprise proposal and the pressure of getting 'the shot' was overwhelming! It's the same kind of stress I feel when the bride and groom go for their first kiss during a ceremony. We continued the celebration with a... newly engaged couple sesh. I wanted to show them my favourite part of Mungalli Falls... this included a bit of rock hopping around raging water (for future couples, expect some wild adventures). This gave me the opportunity to get to know David and Selina to make them feel comfortable and relaxed. It was the perfect winters morning for this Townsville couple that started with a major surprise, breakfast at Gallo Dairyland and ended with a trip to the Kuranda Butterfly sanitary. I drove home afterwards with a smile on my face knowing they just popped my Surprise Proposal virginity! One more to go next month See more
15.01.2022 BLOG 5 Reasons to Elope! Elopements might still feel too boundary-pushing for some, but it does seem that their increasing popularity might be part of the Covid-19 pandemic. Is planning a wedding overwhelming? Postponed 2020 wedding? Perhaps you and your partner are adventure seekers looking to trek new lands and commit to one another. I've decided to dig deeper and find out the reasons why elopements are becoming trendy. I've also reflected on why elopements aren't for everyone. What are your thoughts about escaping to elope?
12.01.2022 This day was meant to be their wedding day. Family and friends from around Australia would have arrived at Port Douglas in full holiday mode for Aleesha + Tyler's wedding. However, it wasn't meant to be. With the restrictions and challenges we currently face, they decided to do it same place and same time next year. This didn't ruin their mood or motivation to have a good time on their 9th anniversary and original wedding day. They celebrated with an amazing picnic setup created by The Collection Co, eat tasty food, drink cold beer and have their unofficial first dance. I searched my Spotify for their favourite song James Taylor, How Sweet It Is, and I cranked up the Bluetooth speaker. It was the perfect place to practise for next years dance Makeup: Tropical Beauty- Cairns Hair and Makeup Artistry
11.01.2022 Richard and Bianca have been together for 13 years and when these two remember the day they met, they refer to it as the day that changed their lives. 2020 was the year they were going to have their wedding in New Zealand. Because of the travel restrictions, their ceremony on top of an epic mountain wasn’t possible. Change of plans! These two wanted to keep it simple. They locked in a time to get married in the Atherton courthouse and for a photographer (oh hey, that’s me) t...o capture their celebration and love for 2 hours after. We met at Emerald Creek falls, chased some waterfalls and chilled in a grass field. They wore their handmade face masks purchased from an artist on Etsy and ate a slice of vegan cake. It was only fitting that Richard crafted a cake topper that said: Fucking Finally, because after 13 years and being hit with a global pandemic in their wedding year there was only one thing they could say at the end of the day. Fucking Finally!!!
10.01.2022 Yo, it's time. Time to say THANK YOU for following this crazy journey I'm on as a wedding photographer. A few days ago I reached 5000 followers on Instagram. I want to believe numbers don't mean shit and I tell myself that everyday... however we are all humans. Humans that contain dopamine. For every like or follow, we get a little psychological high through a shot of dopamine. Science BITCH! It blows my mind that you guys find what I do entertaining, amusing or just plain st...upid. I do this job because I'm passionate about documenting people in love, human connections, wild parties and the more meaningful moments with nanna or pops. I get to experience new places and go on epic adventures while creating lifelong friendships. The people and creatives I work with are talented, inspiring and fun to work with. Thank you for watching the fun times and dumb shit I do. If it gives you joy or my photographs inspire you... that's more than I could ask for. xo Jason

07.01.2022 Like many couples this year, Teneille and Tanksy had their wedding plans flipped upside down with the onset of COVID-19 and tight gathering restrictions across the country, but they decided not to let a pandemic stop them from exchanging their vows and celebrating their love. They stopped re-planning for a 2021 wedding (goodbye stress and anxiety) and went ahead with their original plans of a backyard wedding in Mareeba under the festoon lights with their closest family and f...riends. 06.01.2022 I just had to create a blog! Steph tells all Covid couples why you should consider having an engagement session and I've included a HOT tip about how to start planning an engagement session It was so much fun and something I recommend all Covid couples do! Looking back, it was the best thing we could have done - still got dressed up, had a bit of a date and a fun shoot! It was a way of taking our power back for the day - we were too busy having fun to be sad. Plus we were able to get used to being in front of a camera which I'm so glad we did! - Steph
05.01.2022 Your daily dose of ceremony and dress inspo! I was invited to join a styled shoot at The Rainforest Grotto near Port Douglas a few weeks ago and this was one of the ceremony spots under a HUGE fig tree! It's a magical location to have a wedding and I'll definitely share what a reception could look like under this giant. 03.01.2022 The 16th of May should have been the day Steph and Nathan celebrated their wedding day and 6th anniversary with all their friends and family. However... Rona arrived and cancelled the day. It didn't stop these two making the most of a free day. Instead of celebrating with 100 guests, eating delicious food and hosting a massive party, they downsized. Instead, they did an engagement session which included 1 guest (me), a cute picnic with doughnuts and a sunset paddle on Lake Eacham. The biggest surprise happened when they told me they would read their vows to each other. Steph read from a handwritten letter and Nathan spoke from the heart. It was a very special and intimate moment.
02.01.2022 Who has paid for a professional photographer and totally forgotten about their photos, months or even years after the photo-shoot/wedding? They sit on a USB or wait to be viewed on an online gallery. Yup, that was me After having our own couple session in Adelaide these images were left alone for months. Last week I finally got my ass into gear and gave them the recognition they deserve. We said goodbye to the fading K-mart canvas (sorry Sis, its the thought that counts x)... and hung our new fine art print and Tasmanian oak frame. I'm pretty proud of the final product and happy to announce I'm offering this print product in three different sizes. Small, medium and Big Mumma If you've done the same as me and totally forgotten about the special moments you created together as a couple, family or bride and groom, let me know! I'd be more than happy turn your images into a piece of artwork.
02.01.2022 Yesterday I attempted my first self-portrait session... the results are interesting. Lorna was away doing the groceries when I started. When she caught me midway through the session, all alone, on the floor surrounded by our house plants she joined and these are the results. How's everybody keeping inspired and sane during these times? Every week I'm trying something new and experimenting with my craft. This shit's reality now. I have to embrace the change, get creative, challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone. I think this is the perfect time to try something new...
